"GTA IV is even better than the hype suggests!"

ive canceled my live subscription months ago but have a feeling i'll be renewing it

I have a 360, PS3 and a PC. I will likely get it for the PS3 for the free online experience. I don't buy DLC (even for Mass Effect), so the extra missions don't do it for me, especially when all I want to do is cause mayhem and not necessarily follow any sort of mission structure.

EDIT: I will likely get it for the PC too when it drops for the mods.

But you'll have to put up with the horrid pad with the analogue stick in the wrong place!

Hahaha! I know that for many that is a valid complaint, but I have been using a joypad like the Dualshock for so damn long that it is almost like a part of me. The sticks just feel right. That 360 controller is just too damn fat. SNES controller is the best ever, but the Dualshock 2 is a close second imho. GTA with it is just plain natural.

bah. My thumb naturally falls over the d-pad on the dual shock (I suspect because it was designed when the d-pad was more common than analogue) and I still find it hard to aim with the deadzone. Fix the analogue sticks and put them in the right place and i'll change my mind!

Each to their own, though :) I'm going for the 360 version simply cause all my mates will be on Live.

I believe this is the Xbox syndrome - it happens when you've used a Xbox controller every day since 2002.

The default PC controls for SA were awful, you basically needed three hands. I used a gamepad.

Felt perfect to me.

I really don't see why everybody believes the controls for the new GTAs on the PC are bad.

I believe it is called normal hands syndrome ;)

When Sony designed the PS pad they put the d-pad in the most comfortable, natural position for most people. When analogue was introduced they simply added it under the d-pad rather than in this optimum position. I can't remember the last time I played a game other than SF that required a d-pad - it's time to swap them round.

All I know is that I couldn't pedal at the same time I leaned on the bike and looked around.

EDIT: Don't you "I was born in 1995" me, I've owned all Sony consoles this far and that includes all first-party controllers. :p

I too remember the days when the d-pad was more popular and being upset that these analogue sticks would one day replace the d-pad.

When Sony first introduced the analogue controllers however, I also remember thinking how comfortable and useful they were and how much more convenient they would be if they had just put them in place of the d-pad.

These days, I've gotten used to the location of the thumbstick location(s) of the PS dualshock, and will not have it any other way. The gamecube thumbstick is in the original location of the d-pad from previous Nintendo systems and still, I didn't like the gamecube controller nowhere near as much as I do the PS2/PS3's.

Nono, they're not bad, it's just I'd rather just use a gamepad than a mouse and keyboard/switching between the two. Aiming really isn't that important in GTA, anyway. Autoaim works just fine. Plus, they've introduced a new aiming system allowing for the player to aim at specific body parts with the pad, so, hopefully it will be better.

"few bits"? How can you make REVIEWS off FEW BITS?

Wouldnt it be PREVIEWS!?>_<

Agreed. A few bits would equate to a "glimpse" or a "brief eyes-on" but not a proper review. Ugh! Semantics will be the death of me!

Kotaku confirms free-roam is available in all MP modes. The host just selects a specific section for the game to start and generally take place. Unfortunately the respawns and weapons only spawn in that area. The game doesn't stop you from leaving the area though :)

Cops n crooks and GTA Race both sound just plain awesome.

Thanks Stern, ordered a 360 + GTA4. You owe me 300 eurobucks now. Plus 50 more for a Live subscription. Plus 50 more for every game I'm going to buy for it.

and after you play said games you owe me xx amount of dollars for your entertainment pleasure including and not limited to money saved from not going to movies, nights out on the town, presents for your significant other, drinking with the boys, the occasional hooker, meals skipped etc etc etc

no personal cheques please
