Half Life 2: Anti New World Order Video Game

I didn't say that. I do believe, however, that the tightening of security and curtailing of civil liberties does have effects. Perhaps they don't slam into your face. Perhaps you, as an individual, truly are unaffected by it. But there's not telling what kind of effect it will have one, two, or ten years down the line. And you may just find yourself eating your own words.

This country is moving down a path to open up MORE civil liberties as well.

I'm afraid I see no serious indication of this. At least not with the current state of American politics.

Its a rocky path, might be a long path too, but you can't tell cause of the bend around the corner. But then again, around that corner there might be a squad of robot police there to beat the shit out of law abiding citizens in an oppressive manner, like you think.

Right, because it "borrows" heavily from 1984, that doesn't instantly mean that it is a political statement against the "new world order".
I mean, perhaps this guy didn't entirely get 1984 OR Half-Life 2? 'cause there's a lot of inference and twisting going on in what he's trying to say. Besides which, a lot of games have similar plots with the underdog rebels taking on a larger power - is Star Wars, for example, anti-nwo?
To an extent, I see where he's going, but no. Just no.

I'm curious as to where you got the notion I think the USA is turning into a police state.

And I'm also curious as to what you were referring to when you said we were expanding civil liberties.

Well... it kind of happened when you ridiculed my opinion that we werent becoming a police state.

And for civil liberties... gay rights is one example. Its not being fought for by everone(and many against too), but its making strides.

I ridiculed your assertion that it doesn't matter if security becomes increasingly tightened because it doesn't affect us.

As for gay rights, I can't recall much development taking place on that front within the last few years. And if the last presidential election is anything to go by, it's still going to be facing staunch opposition for quite some time.

It does.

The combine are becoming increasingly similar to the US police force, who have gradually started carrying more assualt rifles, and wearing blacker outfits and such. There preparing for martial law here, just like in city 17, now we can be gordon freeman in real life, and shoot policemen!!!

I'll assume you don't live in the US.

I've never seen a police officer carry an automatic fire arm. All cops here wear a bright navy blue uniform, and there is no sign of martial law at all.

Hell, me and my friends galavant all the time after school. I was walking to the marina once, and found a "house sellling by X company" sign (you know the big metal ones), picked it up, held it over my head, and started walking around with it like I had just ripped it out of the ground.

I must have seen at least 3 cop cars shoot bye, and nobody cared at all.

Hell, i've never seen a beatcop in all my life.

...have you heard of joking?

: D

I would have no clue whether or not the USofA was a police state.

Hilarious thread. :D

Haha, now that it's mentioned, it's almost like the game is directly criticising Solaris.

Such truth. I can testify that on the few occasions where I have met armed police (Labour Party conference and the days leading up to it, Old Bailley) I had many nice and friendly conversations such as 'you know, I can kill you with this spoon. Your assault rifle doesn't faze me' and 'so how many sharpshooters are watching us right now' (answer: 3, apparently).

Britain, is most likely to becaome a police state in the future.

And if its a comparison with the combine, this could be it.

Also, britain and france aswell could be overturned by its own populace.

They (the government) have proceeded with social engineering, destroyed the british spirit (whch they now realise was a good idea after all, but its too late its dead, they killed its finally above a decade ago).

They have produced a socially engineered society, which is full of instabilities and dissatisfaction. They run a doo gooder state on one hand, while increasing masses drop out of the state system and increasingly hate it.

They are just about to mercilessly tax the life out of the british people, to prop up thier unsustainable, failing, economy (like many others, victims of thier own globalisation).

A decreasing number of jobs and industry, as they actually let it go abroad, and the increased willingness to tax people, to make up thier gov. shortfall. They have broke the budget and the state is in debt never mind the people. Now they will tax more and break the taxpayers back.

Therefore a society built on lies, cheap promises and economic insecurity, that is punishing its own, for the willful leading of its own people into such a predicament in the past (which they were too shortsighted to see was not sustainable) they took the british people there, now they punish the british people for it.

They have increasing means of aquireing revenue, from the most stealthy and destructive methods (dont asses the impact). And havce increasing state control over everyones finances, and big brother style monitoring of every activity in our daily lives. Not to mention that the UK is the most CCTV survailanced country on earth. They tax you for this tax you for that and they have every goddamn thing on database, linked to and shared with nearly every other authority so they know where you are, what you are doing, you do the smallest thing outside the box and they dont hesitate to tax and punish you. Dont get me started on the DVLA, I WANT TO KILL THEM.

And one day when we are all swimming in debt, house prices are throught the roof, everyone living on vredit and jobs go abroad to low wage countries because Labour let them. When people cannt pay the bills and they get thier houses repocsedded. When thier doo-gooder system finally turns sour and shows its real demonic face of totalitarianism.

Then with all the other social problems already here, the final straw will have broke the donkeys back. The people will turn on the state to bring the ungrateful and wasteful MotherF***er down.

This is all ofcourse if the Labour party wins the next general election. If the tories win it would be a different story if Cameron can rescue the system intime.

But if the Labour swines win again, and MR.BROWn takes the helm, (which he already is incontrol of already) , then we can expect more of the same, more taxation, social problems and and inequality and what i said could become true.

And british police are more armed than ever, mp5s and the lot, terrorism maybe, but just think after the days of terrorism, they will keep thier guns and have established a new watermark for using them.
They already shoot innocent people because they mistake as terrors. AND THEN LIE ABOUT IT.

And BTW, the police men and women, they maybe just ordinary people inside.
And have only good intensions, doing thier job, (ie. dont have to be a bastards) , but at the end of the day they are still working for the satet and doing its dirty work. And people who are pissed of by the state, and them in somecases will eventually start to hate them, as well as the state.

How long will they do this dirty work, for a paycheque? before they realise that they do nothing but help prop up a failing system?

a system which is going nowhere but on as oneway trip to self destruction and makes its own people suffer because of it.

We had a military state once.

Ah the good times of anti-communism education.......

But now, our police don't even carry guns and are having the shit beaten out of them by drunks and gang members.

Now there is a new look at HL2..and quite an interesting one.

Lets try not to get any country involved in HL2..and the Americans can calm down a little. Your taking the matter far to seriously.

Thank you.

Solaris, do me a massive, huge, wonderful favor and shut the hell up when you're talking about subjects you don't have any experience with or understanding of. Which, in my experience, is much of the time. Most, in fact. Hell, it'd be nice if you just didn't post. Our police officers do not stride around in our cities with assault rifles, asking random people to pick up a can and put it in a trashcan for their own amusement.

Oh, this should be ****ing good.

*Organises Alex Jones Propaganda*
Seriously, I'm going to do this properlly, just not now I'm too tired, and driuuunnnnkkk, ok im not Im just.....scared.......

Neg, I'll Own you all expect a post tommorow in this thread.

Well at least you'd be owning something, because currently your possessions seem to amount to an internet connection, poor typing skills and lots of confusion.

And a wooden crate containing the mummified remains of Karl Marx, retro-fitted with a turntable so he can spin in his improvised grave.

My grave would be way better: An eight-foot sculpture of Godzilla hooked up so that it roars when people pass through a motion sensor.

Hell yea!

I'm frightened, you're going to tell me stuff about the country I've lived in for sixteen years that you read on the internet.

Ennui, you're looking at the world through rose-tinted spectacles!

Wake up and smell the ashes!

You're right. Those must be assault rifles, not pistols those policemen are carrying! And that's not a criminal they're beating with sticks, it's a 4 year old child who only wants to be friends!

Doh, you were right... total pwnage.

Go retire in shame to some sort of tibetan monkhouse.

Your comments sound suspiciously like an avoidance of a comeback because you can't think of one (referring to the previous page).

Oh yeah, because I'm on fairly solid ground with what I said.

Yes, I was wondering about that. Your promise a 'rant of utter ownage' - a rant to end all rants, if you will; a volume of pwnage the likes of which our world, or indeed any other world capable of supporting sentient life, has never seen; an argument so powerful as to cause seizures in 70% of the population and severe brain damage in the other 30; The Ultimate Argument, with power enough to burn even Mechagodzilla's cortex to a cheese-and-onion crisp; the cold logic of a supercomputer made entirely of ice and the apocalyptic fury of a thousand exploding suns packed into one single post. And this is what we get? It's disappointing. Dissappointing.

Aww come on, I waited up all night to see your response, surely you can do better?

As Sulk said, a bitter disappointment :|

I just refreshed the page and that post is totally different sulk :D edit much?

That's a damned lie! I absolutely did not go back and edit the thing several times upon noticing inconsistencies and spelling and grammatical mistakes or suddenly thinking of things I wanted to add! Never! D:

[Apologies for spamming this thread, but when the proposed argument fails to materialise, watchya gunna do?]

Oh don't worry, its a bigger task than I dreamt before.
Its in production, but its going to take some time.

Expect it in maybe a week.
It shall hence forth be know as....
The Reckoning.

Its coming.
