Half-life 2: Episode 1
FAQ

Does it require HL2 to play?

No, it doesn't.

What is Episode 1?

Episode 1 marks the beginning of an episodic trilogy aimed at wrapping up the current Half-life 2 story arc. Episode 1 kicks off seconds after HL2. Having just de-stabilized the Citadels dark fusion reactor, scientist turned resistance fighter Gordon Freeman is forced to deal with the reprucusions of his actions. With the Citadel in meltdown he is forced to flee a City in ruins, and aid in a mass exodus before the Citadel explodes - taking City 17 with it.

Which characters will be returning?

Having survived the reactor explosion Alyx makes her return - this time however providing a far more crucial role to the proceedings. She'll accompany you throughout the entire game, utilizing her knowledge of City 17 and her technical know-how (for instance, she can re-program rollermines to attack the enemy). Her father, Eli, returns, along with both Judith Mossman and Barney Calhoun.

Vehicles?

There are no driveable vehicles featured in Episode 1.

Weapons?

No new weapons have been revealed at this stage. Apart from Alyx having the ability to upgrade weapons, and the possibility of you being able to charge up the Gravity Gun.

New enemies?

Certainly is! In Episode we'll be dealing with the tortured human slaves, the Stalkers, as we frantically attempt to escape the crumbling vaults of the Citadel. There is also the inclusion of Zombines, zombified Combine soldiers with a knack for charging at you with primed grenades.

New locations?

The entire Episode is based within City 17 and the Citadel. Locations such as the Citadel core, an old hospital and a trainyard have been revealed.

How long is Episode 1?

Episode 1 is around 5-6 hours long.

Will there be retail?

Yes, there will be a boxed version of Episode 1, distributed by EA. Of course, you could always buy it on Steam.

Minimum system requirements?

Same as HL2. Were you able to play HL2 fine, then you'll be able to play Episode 1 just as well.

How much will Episode 1 cost?

$19.99

What about Shepard? Is Shepard back? Does his osprey crash? DOES SHEPARD COME BACK?

Go away.

Stalkers will play a bigger role in the game this time. There is also the rather high possibility of running into the Synths you encountered toward the end of HL2. The Crab synth and the mortar synth. There is a new Combine soldier skin, but apart from that the rest is up in the air.

err.. what are the synths again?

Anywho, thanks for the FAQ.

He said he thought about $12 in the original post ;)

Is the release date for here (UK / Europe), the US, or both at the same time?

will any major questions, left unanswered from half life 1, be answered? like, who, in fact, is g-man. put all the conspiracy theorists out of their misery.

Shepard won't be back till the 2nd expansion, I thought everyone knew that ;)

There will certainly be some new additions to the arsenal in Aftermath, however there have been no confirmations as to what these will be yet. As seen in this screen:

The blue grav gun will be returning. No doubt you won't have it through the entire game.

I just have one big question; wouldn't the game be a little to easy if you have the super gravitygun the whole game through? I mean, you are next to invincible with that weapon, i guess it will be destroyed in some way

Am I wrong?

Perhaps you have it for the period of time your in the citadel? Then you lose it by, lets say, getting knocked out. Hence dog finding you(if thats what happened) in a pile of rubble.

lol i guess the power of the supergravgun isnt infinite. maybe it gets yellow after a time again.

alongside Breen who if you look carefully, was very much alive following HL2's conclusion.

Someone tell me what he is talking about.

First, it might be good to learn to quote, and next, read the whole thing.

Example.

And its pretty much certain Mossman will be returning, alongside Breen who if you look carefully, was very much alive following HL2's conclusion.

Mossman, who hasn't been shown in any form of media, will most likely be returning, but there isn't actual proof. The same goes for Breen, who was alive at the end of HL2.

Does this make sense, or do I need some exclamation marks? :p

1. forgot to quote
2. I never saw breen a live at the end, which brings me back to be previous post. Can someone post a screenshot of him being alive at the end of hl2. I beat the game 3 times and dont remember seeing anything like that.

Its not directly in front of you, you need to look down into the Reactor. I'll do Dark enery later, and post a screen for you.
