Half-Life 2: Episode One Gold!

Also, veg, Gabe is referring to CS's initial release style: lots of small, fast incremental release. It's similar to episodic gaming because it keeps adding better technology (or content/features, in CS's case) and keeps the public interested.

News just in - its possible to get an orgasm over a teaser.

Shouldn't we all start using gold banners now, like we did when HL2 went gold?

I wonder if he gets it now :p
stfu :p We talked over Xfire, we were both kind of right in a way. I was right in the fact that yes, Valve was directly comparing the two, and that made Ennui realise in what way they were comparing. I didn't realise they were talking about the very first betas of it, I thought CS was popular because it was just a good idea that was played out well, never would have thought releasing lots of betas had anything to do with it.

The trailer was... a bit odd :p but good nonetheless.

Best graphics so far for HL2: http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i139/hool10/untitled1.jpg
And Alyx seemed kinda evil in this video. But it is the best facial animation I have seen: http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i139/hool10/untitled.jpg *Plus she had like a scar next to her eye. Kinda like an evil villain.
I think it was more of an "Aww! How cute.. she got a wee lil cut on her eye ^-^" kinda scar

Maybe i should stop watching the power puff girls though...

Just in? What teasers have you been watching? :p

*will stop now. Darns himself for being at work w/o speakers or headphones*

I'll be surprised if Episode 2 is out by the end of this year. It could happen, since half of Valve started working on it the same time as Episode One.

I don't mind spending $20 per episode, as long as there are extras included. For this episode it has been HLDM:Source, HL2 Deathmatch, and HL2: Lost Coast.

God, that was awesome. And we're going to get more! Sweet...

I'm going to download now. I can't wait to see what's in stor in this teaser. Only a week to go now.

Attention!

Everyone is to put some sort of gold in their avatar if they have or intend to preload Half-Life 2: Episode One

That is all.

Hey, I wanted to test out GameSpot's user videos on another site, so I did it with the trailer. If it's a problem for some reason, then go ahead and delete this post.

Silly thing starts on it's own accord :|

Anyway, as is demanded, I have changed my avatar :)

In the oh so famous words of Kupoartist, it's gone Spandau Ballet!
lol, I said that? :D (lol, looks like I said it really recently as well. Memory like a sieve ^^)

One thing from the teaser that I was a bit disappointed about: Alyx's gun doesn't seem to have an awful lot of punch to it. In only a few shots does she appear to recoil from it. It looks too static to me. Not really much of an issue, because I don't tend to look too closely at what Alyx is holding when I'm playing, but nontheless.

Saw it through Steam btw. Good quality there.

lol that video was terrible!!

Cool under pressure? Pile on the corn!

Read what I quoted.. They are saying directly that one of the key reasons CS became a success is because of frequent upgrades in techonology. Which makes absolutely no sense and has nothing to do with why CS is popular.

Constant updates is EXACTLY why CS became popular, and a major technological upgrage much further down the track is what revitalised the community (source). So STFU coz u know nothing.

And about this trailer - it's ****ing weak and doesnt show anything about the game.

My first thought when I came to this page was that there a horrible flash banner with sound, but it turned out to be something much better..:)

Nah you're completely wrong. Cs became popular because it was one of the first games to offer a team oriented tactical experience. Released at a time when deathmatch, team deathmatch and rocket arenat type games were dominating the gaming world CS was a breath of fresh air and exploded in popularity.

CS:S didn't revitalise anything because CS1.6 is still the most popular fps on the planet. If the players numbers were waning into oblivion you could say cs:s revitalised the counter-strike brand, but player nubmers weren't waning. It didn't need to be revitalised because the game was already strong, insanely strong!

There were other MP Tactical FPS shooters - Rainbow Six and Rogue Spear to name just two of the more popular titles.

People picked it up because it was something different - and it stayed well ahead of the mod curve because there were constant updates with new content.

Today's gold announcement was the first official confirmation that a third Half-Life 2 episodic update is in development. Like Episode Two, Valve divulged little in the way of information about Episode Three, saying only that it was the last "in a trilogy...that will conclude by Christmas of 2007."

Holy shitcakes! Interesting info :) As for the teaser...both meh and awesome at the same time.

EDIT: I sure hope that it will come in retail June 1st D:

Again, misuse of the word trailer. It was only supposed to highlight Alyx, and guess why that is? Because it's a teaser.
Did you ever see the X-Men 2 teaser? Where it showed 0 footage from the film? But it served it's purpose in the fact that it was a teaser.

Yeah, 18 months isn't a long time.

Honestly don't know if I'm buying this, will they take debit cards yet? Solo in my case?

Why don't you just buy it retail?

Hmm, lets compare 18 months to 6 years. Hmm. Hmmm.
And lets consider that it hasn't even been 18 months...

Yeah, because like we all know they were also building the Source engine in that time. I think HL2 was really only developed for four years, and totally started a fresh at one point, and with the code leaking incident, it shouldn't have been six years.

Eighteen months for, was it 6 hours of gameplay they said? Well, I personally don't think that's good enough.

I think most people if they're honest with themselves were saddened that these episodes have taking so long, with the whole idea that it would speed up development, and distribution on the Steam platform.
