some dude posts that HIS personal experience took 4 RC's...uh, how can you compare any developer to any other? Were thier games the same game? how could he possibly know how they are testing HL2?
Basing anything on generalziations is not a good idea, and generally leads to dissappointment...
uh, anybody recall the "fools gold" posts? you can't take anything for granted.
Hype was dying out, forums like this one were getting less hits, so they said yes, the RC has been delivered. they never said if it was the first, or the tenth, for that matter.
How long ago did the first test appear? the game was pretty much complete then. yet here we all are still waiting.
I'm not pessimistic, nor am i a troll, heck, i keep saying september 24th, but noone listens.

With all the time Valve put into beta testing the game I think it's fair to say the first RC will probably make it. Sure it's optimism but not blind optimism after witnessing all the delays.

Why don't you just NOT go to class if you're that worried about getting a copy? It's just school. Wasn't it mark twain or someone who said "I never let my schooling interfere with my education. Or something like that. It's so true. Plus, if you pre-ordered a copy, just go pick it up after class.

If I remember right, Piotrr is (or was) part of the Massive Entertainement develloper team (Mapper AFAIK). Who released Ground Control 2 : Operation Exodus (june 2004)and Ground Control 1 (2001). Massive's publisher is VUG.

No they [the mods] don't, piotrr is not a mod over there. But he developed a game that was published by Vivendi (Ground Control), so he knows how release candidates are generally handled by VUG.

According to priotr's info i would guess a RC can be shot off each week. According to the info i got i would suggest that means 2 RC builds(they can maybe shoot in a quick RC3), then a gold build, then 4 weeks of production/shipping.

And do you have anything intelligent to add to this debate? Do you know if anything here is incorrect about the Release Candidate speculation? Most people here are gaining the information from looking at previous games, and unless we actually have an expert to correct us on anything I can't see why people shouldn't analyze and try to discuss the release candidate.

Doubtful, I'm sure they'd know how we'd react when the RC gets shot down. They wouldn't announce it if they didn't have *some* expectation of it being accepted.
