"Valve just announced: WON Shutdown Timing - 26-31 at July) eariler then what they announced before (end of the summer) from "private" sources.. this step is to reserve the bandwidth for HL2 (could be downloaded through Steam) our source confirmed.. the release of HL2 will be somewhere in the middle of august (this year) or even eariler!

Starting July 26th the shutdown of the WON authentication servers will begin. This process will be completed on July 31st. This means players will no longer be able to access Internet features of Valve games, such as Counter-Strike 1.5, using the WON authentication servers. Users can continue using Valve games on the Steam service by downloading the Steam installer and setting up a Steam account. For more information visit www.steampowered.com. Counter-Strike 1.5 players will be upgraded to Counter-Strike 1.6 free of charge through Steam."

I'd believe you....but....yeah....

yay hl2 released mid august! i still think itll release in september.....

I agree, the release date is very short....it has two digits maximum...

I think early september.

If you look at the release date of DOOM3... It takes a fairly long time to print all the CDs/DVDs and then distribute them.

My private source has said Valve are planning to release sometime in the next 8 years, they couldn't confirm when exactley but said they will look into it.

Sorry, I have just saw too many comments from 'private sources' to take any of the seriously any more, when I have the game in my hand only then will I believe the release date it was given.

I predict that it will be avalible for people on september 1st

Well, it's not that long, a little over two weeks (the August 3 in the US I mean). It's just that the jerk distributors in Europe have to be such pussies and can't work their asses off for us gamers. What kind of a person won't sacrifice his life for the gamer's needs?

Pssst! I'm British! ie European! :|

Nar, I dont care. I think it sucks that our publishing houses dont get as many copies out... but then. I would guess they simply arnt as big more than anything else.

wow let's all predict if-ish dates and then when we are right we can post "yeah told you so! " I got Sept 12!

that's not a reliable source eh.. it's just a guess like millions of others did.

Remember guys. Doom3 is coming out. They have to release it or their sales will drop.
I bet they will try to release it a day or two days before Doom3 comes out.
However, I am buying both anyway. SO WHO gives a f u c k!

september 3rd! cause remember CS:S BETA will be going for a while and then they have to fix the bugs!!!!!

I would love for this to be true, but it's too hard to say. Right now, the only thing that seems to be standing between Half-Life 2 and its release is the Counter Strike: Source beta which Valve will be using as a final test of the Source engine. If the test concludes with no major issues being discovered then a late August/early September release is a definite possibility. But this is all speculation since nobody but Valve knows how close they really are to release.

Edit: Egads! I clicked on the original post when there were no replies, took a few minutes to compose my response, and when I clicked "Submit", my post was already on page 2! Man these forums move quickly.

Valve probably got worried with the release of Doom3 and decided to throw the beta in the garbage. The following is a reinactment of a conversation between 2 valve employees after doom3 was released:

Employee 1: OMFG OMFG HAX! Doom3 was released!!!11
Employee 2: OH SH*t!... all HL2 fansites are talkign about DOOM3!!!1111
Employee 1: I GOT AN IDEA! Lets screw the cs:s beta and just release HL2!
Employee 2: LOLZ GOOD IDEA... WE'RE GONNA PWN DOOM LOLZ....

This concludes the reinactment of a conversation between 2 valve employees after doom3 was released.

"Private sources" confirming suddenly much closer release dates doesn't sound legitimate to me. :hmph:

Ahh printing CD's and DVD's, the original use of steam finally reveals itself.

Actualy that can't hold up well. However long it takes for them to print the CD's and place the games on the shelf, is how long it will take before the game will be available on Steam also. Steam has to wait on the publication of the actual game no matter what since Valve is going to release the game on both at the same exact time.

Valve said so numerous times.

Bout the only thing Steam will do before the games finished printing/etc, is start preloading for people, but it will be locked until you can buy it in stores.

I sure do hope this is what happened.

CS:S= not worth wasting their time on.

I think Valve is well aware of the competition and is confident enough in their product to continue with plans.
