Do you think that the half life 2 voice actors are popular voice actors for many other games and/or shows? And do the voice actors already know the whole story, since they probably voiced some of the characters throughout the whole game?

Not always, being voice actors and not being a linear movie, a lot of the vocal work is used in numerous places. So many times they would simply need to know what voices their doing, their motivation and thats it, then its put in where its needed.. Voices for misc characters eg: scientists in HL1, used all over the place doesn't mean those doing the voices knew what the story was. Probably just brought in one day and did all their lines and that was that.

I doubt any of them are that well known (expensive), but some of them probably know the story, yeah. Assuming the voice acting has actually been finished, that is...

Most of the actors probably don't know/care what HL2 is anyway, they just read the script.

well Vice City had Ray Liotta.

And I remember C&C Renegade (and how crap was that!?) had "Odo" from Star Trek: DS9.

The voice of Max Payne (James McAfrrey or something) has been in a few films and such.

There's probably a few more semi-well-known people who have done game voices.

It also had Tom Sizemore (one of my favourite actors) as 'Sonny'.

Jason Statham (The Transporter, among other things) was also a voice in Call of Duty

Don't forget Brian Blessed and David Warner, those two do a lot of voice over work in games. Both instantly recognisable.

Ha, I spent a lot of time in Call of Duty saying "Wow, that sergeant really sounds like the guy from Snatch".

Freelancer had a few famous people. Like the guy who plays Glimli and stuff.

Also don't forget that Jenna Jameson palyed the pr0n star(Candy Suxxx?? is that it?) in Vice City and the psychic hotline lady played the one hatian lady in Vice city as well....

and Britney Alexander was in Two Towers.. their cropping up all over the place these pornstars eh ;)

I just wanna know who plays freeman. Is it the same game from the first game? It just wouldnt be the sane without him.

lol, I wonder who will get that.

Britney Alexander was in Two Towers??? Cool.
Yup, when the women and children are sent to the caves at Helms Deep, keep an eye out for her then, she's on screen for quite a few seconds. Makes sense too since she's from New Zealand. Last place I thought I'd see her though I admit :D

The voice actress behind Mona Sax was in several movies (one of which being "Private Parts"... she played Elyse) and did voice work for that Daria (never saw it, though) cartoon... but I wouldn't expect most people to immediately recognize "Wendy Hoopes" just by her voice.

I heard it will DEFINITELY be the same guy. I think it was in the valve thread.

;)

I just hope that they atleast finished the voice acting, cause if they havent finished that, a Feb release date is highly unlikely.

Depends on the dialogue right :)

I think we'll see more well known people doing voices for games, as games become more mainstream and actually have stories worthy of good actors.

But in HL2 any voices from HL1 are played by the same actors afaik. Which means Gordon will have the same superb voice acting.

Gordon says: "..."

GTA III had some pretty famous guys in it.

Michael Madsen (Reservoir Dogs, Donnie Brasco, Kill Bill...), Joe Pantoliano (Matrix, Memento, Bound...), Kyle MacLachlan, Michael Rapaport etc etc etc etc...

I have also had a lot of those "isn't that guy...?" experiences, when playing games. When I heard Luigi talk in GTA III I was saying to my friend "wtf wasn't that Joe Pantoliano" and my friend said that "no it can't be, Luigi is just a minor character in the story". Well I had to check and yeah, Pantoliano it was. In freelancer I heard this one guy talk and I thought to myself, "goddamn that dude sounded just like Gimli in LOTR". Yep, it was John Rhys Davies indeed.

I think it's great that more and more known actors are doing voice acting for games. Good voice acting really enhances the atmosphere and believability of a game. Of course it's another big cost for the developers but I believe it gives the story a nice boost to have the key dialogue read by a decent actor. Well worth the money definitely. There are billions and billions of good actors out there, who don't require a $20 million paycheck in advance for a few lines of dialogue. Who needs Ben Affleck, bring on Jason Statham (and his accent)!

gordan wont speak other then the usual grunts right?, that would be blasphemy

i hope the HEV suit is the same lady :| :farmer: :E

Gordon didn't make any noises at all.

He doesnt grunt a bit when hit or when falls from high place.

Gordon didnt make any noises, grunts, etc... When he hit ground from high places that was just the sound of his suit impacting the ground.

Doesn't he breath heavily when he gets out of water from a long time?

Or i'm just crazy.

either you are playing turok or you have an affinity for HL1 ladders :p
Gordon isnt the one grunting then pally :)

Ha, I found it, gordon does have a voice actor.

Sound taken from Pak0.pak's player sound section.

Ahh, yeah, I wonder who it is doing the breathing. I wonder if he breathes in Half-Life 2.

He doesn't make any noise when he comes up from water.

It's tricky to find anything about the voice actors of Half-Life. But i did find some things:

The actors in Half-Life 1 were:

Harry S. Robbins - The scientists

Kathy Levin - HEV?

Mike Shapiro - The voice of Barney.

Jon St. John - the voice of the Grunts but also played Duke Nukem and is a DJ for a California-based radio station.

More as i find it.

Gawd, I hope they don't put Duchovny in HL2. XIII : worst. voice acting. ever...
I always had the feeling the people weren't talking to each other but just dropping their lines into empty space...

*shivers*

Does anyone know the name of that tramvoice from the start?

Judging by the 'beta' (I got bored over Christmas, I have broadband) the suit voice is the same as before, as are the other suit sounds. Naturally these might be placeholder sounds, but it would make sense for them to be the same, and it also adds a familarity to the atmosphere I found.

He breathes at the very beginning, after the resonance cascade, everything goes black, and you hear his heart beating, and hes breathing
