Is it in development? Do you beleive it will be a reworked build of source? What would you like to see in it?

HL2 is old news. I want to know what valve really has up their sleeve.

It will probably use Source. In 2/3 years Source wouldn't be outdated. And Don't forget that Half-Life used the Quake engine. You can do a lot with a modified engine.

I'm pretty darn sure it's not in development now, they may think of an idea or two during a coffee break or something, but right now they're putting almost all their effort in Source and Half-Life 2. :)

It'll definitely use a later version of the Source engine.

I hope it will bring a grand ending to the half-life story, and pull all strings together in a very interesting way.

Valve is going to do two things before they start working on HL3: Release HL2 and take a long vacation. That's what they did before they started working on HL2.

"We are aware of the community's feelings about the long delay of HL2. At around December of last year we made a difficult decision. We predicted that to release HL2 once we'd simply re-worked the net-code would be foolish and would disappoint many fans. Following this we decided to begin work on HL3, keeping it under wraps and push the release of HL2 back to approximately one year from that decision.

Now we are in a position to announce the result of that decision:
Half-Life 2 and Half-Life 3 are gold as of now. You should be able to purchase HL2 and HL3 via steam online, or in the shops on September 30th, THIS YEAR - 2004"

-Gabe

I heard of a delay though... it's not going to make it on time.

Biozeminades caused the delay of Half-Life 3!

Screw HL3! That's old news. Valve needs to release some info on HL4.

Would be cool. Won't happen.

I think we shall wait for Half-Life 2 to be released before we talk about Half-Life 3.

Thread closed. Doesn't it piss you off when people say that? :p

Valve will keep Source up to date with Steam, taking on board new technologies as time passes while not abandoning the people at the lower end of the hardware spectrum. They'll always use Source from now on.

Im playing it now and its so kewl ho just wait a mo thats just the pack man game what some 1 made

it was a packman game where you was gorden instead of pack man and them ghostly things was the Gman hehe forgot which website it was at

it was just a joke and i was pretending it was hl2 lol

It's a great plan, but i can't help thinking due to the length of time between 1 and 2(which is ever increasing) with delays and stuff, i don't think my children's children will even see HL3, so i can't get too excited tbh. :imu:

this thread is stupid, becaus its a HL2 forum! Anyone could write things on HL3 if they wanted to but they dont as its for HL2 and thats it!

Valve already said they have written the next part of the story and want to develop characters such as alyx, dr kliener and barney...plus they were wondering whether to make alyx playable

a reasonable thing to update between everything is the complexity they can put into something with the least data given. it's like a .bmp to .jpeg, they look more or less the same but differ in size. if they can make hl2 in under 300mb, with exact everything except maybe a few colour changes that will pretty much be un-noticeable, then maybe, just maybe, it would be reasonable to assume that they would start on the project. but then again, what the hell do we know what's going on at Valve or Vivendi?? i mean, they could be getting drunk without us because they re-beat hl2 for the hundredth time!! and if they have....

I wouldn't be so sure.

Microsoft are getting rid of DirectX in Windows Longhorn (currently slated for 2006 release) and replacing it with a new API that is supposed to be more powerful (and incompatible with DirectX).

This means: a) Source won't work on Longhorn (unless they have an OpenGL port), and b) none of the current generation graphics cards will work under Longhorn.

It's not a new API, it's DX under a different name.

I can't wait to see all the cool new physics in HL3.

Havok 3? Maybe even 4?

And remember, they are stopping at 3, Half-Life is a trilogy.

Can't wait to see what they do next! :D

as it has been said, HL3 will most probably use a modified source engine

After the HL trilogy they're creating an entirely new franchise. The first game will be called Gabe's Minions and will be almost identical to Dungeon Keeper, but set in the Valve offices.

i hope they dont make her playable
imo it ruins the "you're gordon" feeling

naa

they wont have started making the acctual game cos the graphics would be live 5 year out of date by the time it comes out. they nay have done the storly line and come up with monsters and allies and stuff :smoking:

i would really think it would half something to do with how well HL2 is received by the community. If it is a giant let down, ala Doom 3, I would think there would be tremendous pressure to push out something decent, something along the lines of HL3.

However, I can't really see HL2 being anything short of spectacular, which means there is no real outcry for something better. I think HL2 is the answer the outcry of the years since HL, there has not been an FPS that is really ground breaking in a gameplay sense, since HL.

And more importantly: who cares? It's probably five or six years away.
