I reckon that was an early announcment about Aftermath that the magazine mis-interpreted. Considering that up until Aftermath was officially announced, Valve were considering having the player play as Alyx.

No it won't. Halo will.
Valve is an independent publisher unlike Bungie. Valve will end Half-Life when it needs to end. After all is said and done. There were 3 marathons, and then there was Halo. All appear similar to each other.
Valve will go in the same direction i hope, minus the Microsoft Monkey on their backs.
