Halflife2.net Minecraft Server Discussion

does the fact that I can't get on, have something to do with the whitelist issue? Do I need to be readded?

I'm not going to be able to get the server going anytime soon. Due to just stuff coming up. Sorry if I kept anyone waiting.

I think you're wasting your time dude.

If I rented a server, how many people would be interested in playing?

I'm looking at costs, and it's only around £1 per slot. Seriously considering.

Its quite frustrating. Every server I have been on hasn't lasted for more than a month or two. All my work just goes out the window. Minecraft has taught me not to get too attached to things.

If you started a server I would definitely join in. I don't have paypal so I can't help with the cost. The cost seems really cheep. Are they good servers?

Also, would you run mods and what kind of rules would there be? Could I be admin? What commands would enabled?

The one I was looking at was cheap, it was a minimum of 8 slots (I'd get a couple more than that anyway). BUT, I'd have to pay for a whole year upfront, which I wont be doing. It's not a money problem, but I'm not paying for a year upfront if I'll be the only person on it after a month!

I'd probably get 12 slots to start with (can upgrade later). I'm looking at these guys - http://www.mymcserv.com/plans

I'm not a pro when it comes to server management, so I'd need guidance / learning about the mods.

I'd need another admin, since I wouldn't be there all the time. If the .netters all came to play, maybe another after that.

I would want commands for admins to teleport, give items etc. Other than that, I don't know, what else would we require?

In terms of rules, I guess there would have to be a whitelist, and the rules in general would be;
1. No griefing
2. No making the world look gay (no duping and then making diamond towers etc).

I'm half tempted to just do it this afternoon, since my interest in the game has been rejuvenated. I'm not concerned about the cost (i'll cover that), but I'm not wasting the money if no .netters bother with the game any more. Pi's server was a ghost town (I played nearly 6 days without seeing another soul).

Sounds good. I'd be an admin to help but I'd need to learn the commands for whitelisting, teleporting, set warps, and banning (if necessary). We seemed to find each-other a lot on Pi's server so I don't think we will be like ships in the night. All we need is some other people. Ravioli is a good person too.

You should look into a VIP method. Anyone can visit the server but only VIP's can build. Admins can make special areas where only Admin can build too. (Ask Ravioli about it, he used it on his server)

Sorry for the double post but this merits a warning. As it stands now, perviously safe fireplaces may not prevent fire spreading after the update. People have reported their fireplaces jumping to blocks previously our of reach of the fire. Apparently this has less to to with a change in fire's behavior, and more to do with either a bug or a glitch from the update that somehow allows this to happen.

Kaz, you might want to turn fire off before updating the server or making it not spread. most likely this will be fixed before you will need to update, but I though it fair to warn you.
