Here is a small documentary piece on the making of the announcement trailer of Halo3 for E3 of this year. Not as cool as GoW's "Road to E3", but still cool none-the-less.

http://bungie.net/News/TopStory.aspx?link=e3makingof

Three versions of the video are posted for each format (low, high, HD for either quicktime or windows media player).

This video should also be up on marketplace within the next few weeks (something to test the Active Downloads feature on if you haven't already! :) )

Excellent video.

Might buy this game, if it turns out better than Halo 2.

Downloading the HD version 400mb. But none the less ill be getting this game no matter what. Just because its Halo...I mean i have Halo for PC xbox and Halo 2 for xbox (still havnt played Halo 2) Just to much to play lately.

Some people call the Halo franchise overrated but honestly it's one of my favorite first person shooters. That and the Half-Life franchise. :)

I just watched the video and i really dont like the Halo developers. They aren't as laid back or cool as Valve or Crytek. They seem stuck up and full of themselves.

ever visited the bungie website and read their news stories & the little questioning events they have with fans ?

they're freaking comedians.

'My level design is so good!' Meh.

Not going to get any Halo, 'cause my friends are all gonna get it and well, I'll just play multiplayer. Singleplayer is yuck, IMO, but multiplayer rocks, of course.

Valve still owns FPS.

it's the general games subforum, you know.. general games, as in, not half-life2 ?

i guess you guys just have no self-control and other forums will have to be used for a decent thread about halo. ;(

There's no flaming here, but you can expect bitter rivalry. :sniper:

Half-Life is one of the best shooters ever, so is halo. The trailer of Halo 3 makes me want make strange noises and start drooling. It's sooo cool, i cant really discribe it in english with my crappy vocabulerie. but trust me... its going to be soo ****ing sweat. yeeey HALO 3 ! boo-ya !

-dodo

edit: check it at gametrailers.com in HD. or was there a HD version at bungie.net ?

WHO THE **** IS PETE?!

On a more serious note, Yes... Bungie's full of a bunch of stuck-up people.
They don't really care about what they're making anymore.

Halo 1 was ok/average/fun. Halo 2 was pretty much the same. Bungie are bit big headed for my tastes.

i watched the video again, and it seems it could have been at least half [if not more] as short as it was, i was actually quite bored and i thought it would be rather interesting or have some worthwhile points.. or maybe i need to rewatch it again as i probably missed some small details.

THIS TOPIC ISN'T ABOUT HALO1/2 IT'S ABOUT THE HALO3 VIDEO JUST RELEASED.

/glares @ samon, dodo and others.

:p

Downloading :)

I can't wait for Halo 3. Let's hope coop is on and offline this time.

You've gotta really love a game to watch a video like this about it. I happen to be one of the folks that thinks both Halos are overrated pieces of code so this video does nothing for me except prove the point that these guys are egomaniacal one-trick ponies. But you guys enjoy Halo 3 when it comes out. If you like the others you'll probably like this one too--I don't think its going to be all that different. :O

[4 player ?! :)] co-op on live would be fairly awesome.

why are you even in this thread ???

I've always loved Halo since the release of the 1st one, and then loved Halo 2, downloading the HD WMP trailer now from Bungie but the download speeds a piss-take, ah well, it's worth it :D

Understatement of the year!

4 player Halo co-op would own all :)

I love Halo for the involved combat and the rock hard challenge - not for the faint hearted (there's no quicksaves to save your boney asses here ;))

haha, i was trying to be 'mildly sarcastic' by adding in the 'fairly' part. :p

yeah, legendary can be pretty damn hard, though i wish they kept the 'badges' like in halo1 so you could 'show off' or whatever. :)

Correctamondo.

In your opinion anyway ;)

Anyhoo, i just downloaded the HD Trailer and watched it, have to say i'm extremely impressed, i really really cannot wait for Halo 3 now :(
Hopefully by the time of it's release i will have finished paying the last few payments on my computer and can get a nice HDTV for my room :D

HAlo SuX OMG own3d own3d haHa ha wotta lotta n00bs hAHahA.

IMO, anyway. :p

(Note to Halo fanboys - I am joking)

I like the story, I just don't like the gameplay. It feels odd...

You can't assign a key binding for 'Enter'

Looking where you are driving was a disappointing feature, which was surely used to eliminating the need to use the analogue and direction keys together on the Xbox. They should of discarded this for the PC

The library and guilty sparks where what made the game terrible and repetetive and cheesy

They took seven minutes to say absolutely nothing at all.

I was more or less just watching all the new footage of Halo3 than listening to them really...

I've noticed this as well.

They seem cocky as shit in their weekly updates.

Sure, Halo is fun and all, but they act like they're changing the face of interactive entertainment every time they open their mouths.

And this keeping Halo 3 "a secret" thing they did was just another example of how annoying they can be. C'mon. Everyone on earth knows you're making Halo 3. In fact, the ending of Halo 2 was essentially an announcement for Halo 3. Then they go and deny that they're even working on it for two years, only referring to their "next project." Have a little respect for your fans.

By the way, I LOVED Halo 1. Played through it multiple times. But I barely even had the patience to finish Halo 2. The single player just wasn't as compelling as the first game for some reason. I think maybe I just didn't like the Arbiter.

I don't know what you guys are talking about, I watched it twice. I noticed many details I didn't the first time. This game looks so incredible. Another reason to get a 360 for me - as if the 20 other reasons weren't enough.. Just waiting for the price drop.

I like Halo - of all the FPS games that I play to death (waiting for new content to come out), Halo is still the one I come back to over and over. I'll still revisit Tron 2.0 or Unreal II every now and then to replay a favorite level, but Halo has never gotten old for me. I think Half Life II is a superior game, but Halo's fun hasn't aged.

When you make a game that has over 500 million multiplayer games played in under two years, you can be as big-headed as you like. I thought that documentary was really cool. They look like they really enjoy what they're doing and everyone seems liked they'd be really fun to work with. If there's anything Valve could learn from Bungie it would be to take on the same approach to their community as the Bungie web guys. With their videos and weekly updates and what not. Works really well at keeping your interest.

I'm not a rabid Halo fan or anything but alot of people around here bash it at the slightest thing. Come on the games aren't that bad.

Halo was great fun the first few times around. Halo 2 was good the first time. Although short, and has the worst ending ever, I thought it was good. Now i can't stand it, but that often happens with time.

(many people will debate Half-Life 2's ending to be worse. Say what you like but i personally reckon the ending of Half-Life 2 was done with a ridiculous amount of finesse that i am yet to see in any other game...ever. Whereas the Halo 2 ending was just another cutscene in the game.)

I don't look at Halo 1 or Halo 2 as anything more than the potential of the series. I mean look at Doom 1 or Wolfenstien 1, Quake 1, Half-life 1. Some of you are Half-life 1 fans, and I am a Doom 1 and Wolfenstein 1 fan.. well, you know, I was a huge one. I'm just saying that a lot can change over the series. For example, in Doom1, you didn't even reload weapons. It was just one big clip of ammo. So if there is something you didn't like about Halo 1, chances are, they are listening and have improved it quite a bit.

Halo was a terrific start to the first game in the series, and I think Halo 3 will be the ultimate end to the series. They say Halo 3 is the final part of the trilogy - exactly what ID said about Doom3... "This is it. Doom 3. There is not going to be a Doom 4"

... but I still believe that one day, they will change their mind. :D Doom 4 has such a nice ring to it, don't you think? :D :D

I think with the amount of money that Bungie has made, they can definitely feel safe investing whatever it takes for Halo 3. Didn't like Halo 2 story? OK, they hire the best writer in the business. The levels were too repetitive? OK, they will watch out for that this time, and go all out. They have 90 artists and engineers working on this game. It's going to ROCK.

i think they're just afraid that a game may be on par, and i daresay, better then hl2 so they freak out and bash it. :p

I don't think its a defensive mechanism. Maybe just loathing of console FPS.

Console FPS are rarely done well. Bungie and Rare are the only ones that have ever been able to pull it off well enough.

I don't think any of that will happen, because Bungie gets cut so much slack by reviewers and thier fans. They could have ten million artists and engineers for all I care, the philosophy of Halo is "30 seconds of fun repeated over and over again". I didn't say that, 'halohater06' on halflife2.net did not say that, the lead designer of Halo said that. And that philosophy sucks. So you've got 90 (or ten million) guys working under a retarded outlook on game development. 10 guys working with a great outlook on game development will make the better game every time. Sure, they could go at Halo 3 with a radically different approach, but will they? Can they see past the easy cash-in that a Halo 3 in the spirit of its predecessors would bring? Would Microsoft even let them? I doubt it.

yeah, that's true, alot of console fps suck though there are 'alot' of good ones.

halo 1/2.
killzone.
timesplitters 1-3.
various james bond games (like golden eye).
some medal of honour games, quite a few suck on console.
metroid ?
perfect dark.
xiii.
snowblind -- actually, that kind of sucked.
brothers in arms.
unreal championship 1/2 -- come on, they were okay.
some tom clancy/ghost recon games.

i could probably go on for awhile.. and of course, there are way more good ones on pc, and i freaking hope there is, like with rts games (though those are undeniably bad, in general on consoles ;)).

hang on, since when is that 'their philosophy' ? wasn't that just a comment made by a single person who works for bungie ?

they put alot of work into the halo series, heck, have you seen the extent they go into with things like the cortana letters and so on ? the whole 'halo universe' is rather deep, you just have to get into it.

i'd say they have a love for their game.

halo 1/2. Yup
killzone. I've heard this is terrible
timesplitters 1-3. Totally forgot about these. These were great
various james bond games (like golden eye). Only the RARE ones were good
some medal of honour games, quite a few suck on console.
metroid ? Not really an FPS. More like a FP Adventure Game
perfect dark. again RARE
xiii. Eh
snowblind -- actually, that kind of sucked.
brothers in arms.
unreal championship 1/2 -- come on, they were okay. Played the first one, that was eh
some tom clancy/ghost recon games. I hear Advanced Warfighter on 360 is great

Again, only Bungie and Rare have really pulled it off well enough. Except maybe the guys behind Timesplitters but they really just copied the style of GoldenEye and then had their own little take on level design. So i guess them too.

I think it was actually a lead game designer that said that.

But thats all outside the game itself. Other FPS games have been able to capture the same amount of depth still within the game itself. Not to the extent of Ilovebees.com and the books, but everything other than that, definitely. Have you ever played System Shock 2? Thats got more storyline in it than most of the Halo universe. The way the captain slowly turns insane is utterly fantastic.
