Halo 3 parrying PlayStation 3 launch

In next week's issue of Time Magazine--which features Gates holding the Xbox 360 on the cover--Gates mentioned plans for the release of the much-anticipated follow-up to the best-selling console shooter. In a parenthetical sidebar in the article, Time says the following:

"Note to the hard-core faithful: the next version of Halo will not, repeat not, be ready in time for the launch of Xbox 360. It will be part of the all-important second wave next spring. 'It's perfect,' Gates says, radiant with bloodlust. 'The day Sony launches [the new PlayStation], and they walk right into Halo 3.'"

I doubt it will affect it much at all. A few people might buy Halo 3 right away and wait a week or two to get the PS3, but it's more likely people will put off buying Halo 3 and rather get the PS3, especially after Halo 2 being a mild disappointment.

Nope... I'm mostly English & French and I live in Florida. I've never even been within 2,000 miles of Kuwait. I have no idea why I would remember what currency is used there. This is the first time I've ever had a use for it.

Don't think it will have any impact on a console launch. The X-BOX 360 will likely have a minimal install base compared to PS owners and I doubt someone would base their decision of whether or not to buy a console on one game being released around the same time.

Would be funny if MS ends up rushing what will probably be one of its only good games to try and compete with Sony, and therefore ends up with no good games. I would say with the exception of PD0 but very little of the original team remains and it's being pushed out as a launch title, looks like they're going to ruin one of my favorite franchises.

Bad idea

Number 1: Halo 3 would not top PS3 in sales, infact the release on the same day would probably hurt the opening sales of H3

Number 2: They're gonna try and rush it. Halo 2 seemed rushed, and they had a hell of alot more time to work on that then they did with this.

Man I saw this BS coming a mile off. As I was finishing Halo 2 and got kicked in the balls by the "cliff-hanger" ending, I was thinking to myself, "I really don't see how anyone can call £40 reasonable for a game, let alone having to buy another one for £40 just to finish it..."

Then I heard the next version of the XBox was coming out a year later, I just knew, not only was I going to have to pay £40 to finish the game, but they're going to make me pay for a whole new console.

Bah! And now you've confirmed it. It's not so much that I liked Halo 2, it's just I really don't like being ripped off. I really didn't get much value from my XBox, since it was basically a PC and game companies make more from consoles than PCs the past few years have been nothing but crappy XBox ports (which you can also get for a damn sight cheaper for the PC as well).I'm not going to buy any console this time round unless one of them truly does offer me something my PC can't.

As for Halo 3 affecting sales of PS3 (or vice versa), I can’t see how. I doubt a very big portion of gamers have more than one console of the same generation at the same time. Those that do buy more than one, buy them regardless.

It was mediocre at best the both of them in my books. I also don't think a single game will intrude on sales of a whole new... possably even greater machine. People Tend to over-estimate what really is just another game...

Can't say this seems like a good plan but doesn't really care either as I'll mostly likely get XB360, then the PS3, and last the Revolution.
Fanboy-ism sucks ass, imo each console always has a few special games that makes it worth buying, I'm betting Gears Of War will take Halos place on the XB360.
Hopefully we'll see a MGS4 for the PS3 at E3 2k6 and then having it release 2k7.

Well, I guess I'll be the first to pass on boarding this bandwagon, since I'm anticipating Halo 3 quite a lot.

I wouldn't take Bill's words so literally if I were you. I doubt he means that Halo 3 and the PS3 will be released on the same exact day. He just means that they'll be out at around the same approximate time, probably with Halo 3 coming out a month or two earlier.

And I don't care how overrated you think the Halo series is. I don't care if you think its community is dominated by fanboys. It doesn't matter how many stupid insults you throw at them. The fact of the matter is that Halo 3 will sell. Anybody who thinks otherwise has had their head buried in the sand for the past couple of years.

Dont get me wrong Halo 1 / 2 are very nice, they are very artistic/fine tuned games. It just seems that Bungie rushed them to appease the masses for the G-man (bill). I'd like to see halo become a true beast and develope some varied gameplay and inventive mp modes.

In terms of sales figures.. Halo dominates the gaming industry, there is no question about that. It's the next generations 007.

Very true. The first game was great, if a little short. The second game was ok, but WAY too short. If Halo 3 is more like the 1st one i'll consider buying it
