Hammer Crashes after update...

although.... i cant see any of my textures... its like the 3D Textured window has fullbright off or something. all the props are black too... wait.. wait.. i can see only the snow texture... WTF VALVE?!???!!

lol this is not a fix, its a partial workaround. Who can map without seing your textures... this is rediculous.

The next time I see large letters again, I'll will take my head, put it under the toilet seat, and start jamming my head until ear wax begin smudging out.

I mean, seriously, I went through all the trouble just to uninstall the whole entire HL2 and SDK to reinstall it, and find out everyone else had the same exact problem I had, and then realize now I have forgotten where I have placed my Half-life 2 CD. (which I believe was inside a box filled with stuff, that was loaded on top of a trailer and sent to the rubbish dump)

This sucks, damn you Valve, damn you to hell. (just joking, Valve) :(

same problem for me, all non displacement geometry has a black texture

odd....thats what my hammer looked like after changing the toolsappid to appid in the gameinfo.txt. maybe they figured that would fix it too....which is sad.

hehe i did it for you

I have been experiencing this problem too ever a couple of weeks ago. First I get the "System cannot find the file specified error" and then once I refresh the SDK I get the AppId error everybody is having.

This is how I have been able to get by these days, but it's a pain in the ass if you are the sort that reboots their computer often:

1) I exit Steam.
2) I take out the -beta sdk command line parameter and fire up Steam
3) I exit Steam once more.
4) Open Steam again, and this time it will start downloading the SDK beta update.
5) Refresh SDK

At this point I am able to load up the SDK and Hammer without problems. However, the next time steam is restarted the entire process must be done again. So I normally just leave my computer on for a day or two to minimize the times I have to bother with all this.

Hope it helps!

yeah i had to download the beta sdk update too but its not enabled until you add the -beta sdk thing... so basically you downloaded more blocked content. :D Atleast you can sleep knowing that the DODS SDK files are somewhere on your comp
