Hard Drive

80 pin is the standard ATA133/100 standard that uses IDE cables.
This is the harddrive you want.

68 pin is a SCSI harddrive which you would need a SCSI controller card.

No, 80 wire (or 80 conductor) is the standard for ATA133/100 IDE cables. IDE drives have 39 pins (most people just say 40 pins, but 1 is actually missing on most drives because it's used to key the cables).

68 pin and 80 pin drives are both different types of SCSI drives. You don't want either of those.

well sir you just got two conflicting answers. Basically, unless you're setting up a server, you'll want to steer clear of scsi, ATA or IDE or EIDE is what you're looking for.

Or SATA, if your computer can use it.

Yes, SATA is the way to go if you have the money. It's a little bit faster (which doesn't make much difference for most people). Plus the cable is a whole lots smaller, easier to manage, and doesn't disrupt airflow inside your case nearly as much as the big fat ribbon cables on and IDE or SCSI drive.

And also if you get sata, it's an easier way of having 3 harddisks in your computer. Atleast it's easier for me...

btw,

I <3 my 10k raptor

oh cool, you like the raptor?
i have that in my newegg shopping cart.
btw, did the link work? or only works for me because it is my shopping cart?

Yeah it is, but you need a seperate controller card for it, and they break easily, and they cost very much.

I'd consider getting it and another hd, if you're planning on getting the smaller one i'd deffinately get a larger one aswell, since you'll run out of space very quickly.

what if i have the raptor 74gb 10000rpm and a 120gb 7200rpm hd.
Would i put more commonly used programs on the 10000?
when you have 2 hds can you choose what is on which one?
