If you are a big potter fan like me and like the movies then continue reading on. The last 20min of the next movie will be in 3D for IMAX only. Also the first trailer is coming out tommorrow at 10AM EST! You can see a leaked version though here: :bounce:

the films are utter shit compared to the books, but they're alright generally speaking

If you've never read the books the films are alright I guess.

Well of course your going to read the books. After I saw the second movie I went out that night and picked up 5 of the books and started reading. Then I was amazed at how the books were and what the next movie was gonna be like. I used to be a person who said they were for kiddies which is wrong because it's more for of a teen/adult series except for the first one. The movies are there to put your imagination to reality. Sure it's not as long as LOTR but I think those movies were way too long imo. The movies can only do so much and I think they do justice to the books. :)

I thought the second movie captured the feel of the book brilliantly. It was well edited, the effects were good but not overdone and that Parseltongue!! That sent chills down my spine the first time I heard it!

The others were okay but nowhere near as good as the books.

I can maybe agree with that, but they're still a thousand miles away from the novels

I read the books for the story, I watch the films for Emma Watson :P
TBH I think the HP films have been 'alright' but they no more than that.

They don't visualise Hogwarts half-badly but nothing can compare to the magic in your head...

The fourth sucked something very horrible....not how I imagined the book at all.

Fun movie to watch, nothing special.

I saw the first two movies, I hated both. So I think I'll just stick to the books.

I love the books. I'll watch the movies if they are on.

Love the books, always enjoyed the films. Although imagination reigns superior, it's nice to see how things do turn out looking sometimes.

I still maintain Harry Potter would've made a MUCH better hour-long TV series. 1 season = 1 book and 1 episode is about = 1 chapter.

That way they wouldn't have to dumb everything in the plot way down and cut large chunks of the plot out.

I think Daniel Radcliffe and Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) suck completely. Well, Tom was good in Chamber of Secrets, but in the last two his acting was terrible. Daniel just sucked right from the start. It's going to be interesting to see how they'll do Sirius's house. I really don't think Gary Oldman is the right person to play Sirius, personally. Rupert Grint is the best because he has the character of Ron spot on. They're my views.

the only good actor in there is Snape tbh

I think that Grint is much more worse than Radcliff cause he only seems to do the "permanently surprised" expression well. tbh he acts like that throughout the 4 movies... On the other hand Radcliff has improved considerably over the years.

The only actor I absolutely hate is Micheal Gambon. He is too short, doesn't portray the calmness and coolness of dumbledore at all and has a stupid knotted beard!Urgh! If only Ian McKellen played Dumby....sigh..

Going along those lines Viggo Mortensen would have been a perfect casting for Sirius Black.

At least they got Snape dead on. And the guy playing voldy in Goblet isn't too shabby either. That was the only instant where my imagination fully agreed with the film.

Snape was always described as... well, i always pictured him to be uglier than he is. He turned out half-bishie, you can see from all the screaming fangirls.

I would argue that's true of any novel adaptation. There's no real time boundaries for television. Tons more content you can get in.

What's surprising me about the Harry Potter series now is that as the books get longer, the movies get shorter in length. In fact I hear this new movie is the shortest of them all. How does that work?

Liked the movies, then read the books and like both mediums frankly, but obviously the books are better because of their content advantages.

And Harris was a much better Dumbldore...;(

And the books are utter shit compared to other books.
Now u die cuz i disagree with u. k.

EDIT:
The reason I prefer the books is because I can mentally edit certain details to turn it into something I like. I hated the picture of Voldy as a guy with a flat face and slits for nostrils. In the book, I can ignore the parts which describe him in this way. In the movie I couldn't.

Also, am I the only one who thought that the sequence of events in movie 4 was a bit..disjointed?

The books were pretty good, and the films were alright though not anywhere near as good as the book (save the fourth).

The books and the movie are both kinda bleh, cheep thrills I guess. I remember making out with my highschool girlfriend halfway through the second movie. I never found out what happened.

I certainly agree with you there. They would have been better if they were shown as a TV series, meaning that way, like you said, they wouldn't have to cut out loads of it.

All the movies were complete crap IMO. The books are pretty good but I think they are heavily overrated.

I agree, but I still watch AND buy the DVDs
