I've decided lately that games are a waste of time and that there are better things I could be doing with my time. The problem is that when I go to a gaming site, I see that a new mod or something came out for a game I own and I want to reinstall it. This obsticle is particularry problematic with half life 2 seeing as how I cannot sell it and I can download it anytime I like. My question is has anyone else been a long time gamer and decided it was time to move on? If so, was it worth it?

And you're asking this at a gaming forum? :p

Why give it up totally anyways? If you think it's interfering with life, just don't play so much. Trying to quite anything cold turkey is a bad idea. Just bring it down a notch.

i've tried to quit in the past, but its just like masterbation.

I'm selling off all my games. I figure if I do that then I will want to do something else and go seek something better.

I only play games as i have nothing better to do currently. Soon i will begin work at a lab though, then im done with games.

That's what I hate. Any time I start playing a game I think to myself "I could be doing something so much better with my time." I know few things are as fun as playing games, but so many things are more beneficial.

i gave up games for a while, it was hell when i had nothing to do

I did once for about a year, The only things I seem to be unable to stop doing are
1) drinking mt dew (I have a caffiene addiction, dont laugh it sucks)
2) smoking
3) poker

I can give up any time I want!

I'm not really addicted to games, but I don't want to stop playing them. Its just a nice form of relaxing entertainment that lets me unwind a little. I no more want to stop gaming than I do reading books. I couldn't spend the time doing anything better necessarily because then I wouldn't have time to relax.

Games... "waste of time".... :O

Piss off no one wants you here. I hope you die. Go to hell, and burn. I hope all the bad things in life happen to you and nobady else.

lol I'm kidding.

As others have said... theres no reason to quit completely, maybe drop a few hours a week. I think farrows got the right idea...

There is always something better you can do with your time, but seriusly if you enjoy it more is it really better? I could stop playing games and work instead and get a lot of extra money, but I dont think it is worth it, pure and simple. Fun > money. But keep in mind that if it harms other aspects of your life (you still need money, just making loadds of it is not nessacery) play games less, if you emjoy it I see no reason to quite completly, everyone needs to entertain themselves once in a while.

There prolly is better things to do with your time, question is do you want to do them?

A lot of "luxury" activities are a waste of time. But everything has its place.

When it comes to "wasting" time I prefer playing games over watching 90% of crap thats on television anyday or listening to music.

And remember... time enjoyed wasted is not wasted time ;) well thats not really true but funny none the less. :D

I will put games to the side if I want to go out etc. But I will never give them up :)

The time I spend gaming has declined dramatically lately. I don't really get into it anymore. FPSs are getting old to me real quick, HL2 included. Hell HL2 hasn't been on my hard drive for over a week now. I've tried several new strategy games and they just don't pull me in like they used to either.

I can't put my finger on why this is. I just don't have the desire to boot up the computer when I get home anymore. I still have my Madden franchise going, but even that is starting to get old. On the bright side it's allowed me much more time to enjoy my other hobbies.

my dad used to say the same thing to me he said that he was the KING of the Arcade...... and know he works 56 hours a week

I've downgraded alot from my early high school years. Life catches up.

I know quite a few peeps that have completely quit.

Some will quit, others continue.

My gaming has decreased since having 2 kids. I suspect it will pick up once they become more independant around the house.

In high school I would game about 15 hours a week not it is more like 1-3 average but since HL2 came out gone up to about 5 hours a week.

Well the best way to do it is in fact to give it up completely. I personally could never give it up. I mean what else are you going to do when your at home? watch tv? Read books?

Man, nothing like reading about how one of my hobbies is a waste of time. Thanks for that.

pick up an instrument and learn to play it.
the day i bought my first guitar i stopped playing video games for 2 years.

/don't ask me why i'm posting this in a game forum, that's beside the point

My older brother gave up gameing... but what he did was he sold his computer and got a car and when he's bored he goes out. (he is a programmer) so it is possible. But friends of mine have tried this as long as the computer or other gaming system stays int he house.. you will return to playing. You have to get your self cut out fromt he gaming world... so that u don't get into the hype of games that are coming out and such.

I got a few ebay auctions for rome total war and two xbox games. next it will be my xbox, then off to college.

AHAHAHA!
Dude, hanging around bored and playing games is probably the #2 guy activity at college, right behind drinking and acting like a fool. I don't know where you're going, but at all the colleges I've been to everyone plays games once in a while (less for females, but they're still there).
And any time enjoyed is not time wasted. I suggest you also give up movies, music, reading, and any other form of intellectual stimulation. They're just as much of a time waster as games.

most ive given it up for is 6 months, then i got bak onto it. get bored, and another few months..

I will never gave up videogames!

well sometimes when I play videogames I will prefer to be whit friends and go out but that dont mean I will stop play videogames

cuz is my hobby,if like if you where a fan of the bicicles and you ride bicicles everyday and you love it whiout control,is like that,is a way of entertaiment and joy

I will never stop to play videogames

I did for about 2 weeks, but I then gave in. I spent that 2 weeks primarily coding and stuff. :)

Just stop playing.

That's all you have to do.

I can quit whenever I want.....:D

Probably would raise my grades a lot...not that they suck. They're above average....

:D

good bye everybody, it's been fun. I'm off for good; off to see the wizard and get away from gaming.

I though I gave up gaming for good .. well until HL2 came out. I'm pretty sure I'll be back for HL3 .. I can't possibly imagine myself not wanting to find out what happens next in the story.

I have no desire to give up gaming. It's just another form of entertainment that is nice to relax and enjoy myself for a while. Same as watching a movie, reading a book, going to a play, etc etc. As long as you don't go to extemes there's no harm in it, just like a lot of things.

Dude gave no good reason to give up gaming. Hes depressed or something and looking for something to blame besides himself. As though disassociation is somehow self improvment.

My life: Hang out with GF... she leaves, I get bored... spam forums/play games. Goto school. Repeat.
