Has the whole world gone completely off its ****ing nuts?

Prof Reiss says the rise of creationism is partly down to the large increase in Muslim pupils in UK schools.

Attacking religious people is sectarian, attacking religion isn't.

The article also mentions Anglican priest, Anglicans don't have priests.

Of course for some reason whenever we criticise Islam we must at the least say Christianity is worse, otherwise we are bigots, racists and islamaphobes.

Now you understand.

:D

If the experience in the US is anything to go by, this attempt by assorted Christian fundamentalist Taliban-wannabees to turn the clock of science back to the Middle Ages will not stop with biology.

It still gets me angry - to think these inbred fools would turn back 10'000 years of progress for an arcaic book. Its still sickening.

I doubt anyone is going to listen to them, the vast majority of Christians in this country accept evolution

I have the feeling that you are responding more to some general issue than you are to this thread, SAJ, which is fine, but I have to disagree in this case. People here are outraged about intelligent design being taught in school because we feel it's irrational and potentially dangerous. I won't even get in to how much I'm annoyed by religious fundamentalists feeling that we should 'respect their views' as if they had some sort of realistic basis we could trust.
With all due respect Ennui, I don't think you've even read both of my posts.
I you had you would see that I was very specific in my comments and examples.
Its not about being "PC" or respecting the views of others, it's about:
(a)Representing the facts openly and honestly.
and
(b)Some people having their "bloody foreigners" reflex stimulated on the flimsiest of excuses, and on a basis of ignorance.

In the BBC article you had a priest openly advocating the introduction of creationism in the classroom on the basis that it would be a good example of what "isnt" a scientific arguement. He has -it turns out- written a book which details exactly how he (and his co-author) think this should be done. He also is quoted as saying that the increase in Muslim pupils is partly responsible for the rise of creationism in schools, without (so it would seem) mentioning the role Christian fundamentalists.

Call me cynical if you like but I smell something fishy here, a clergyman with a book to sell and possibly with a Christian agenda (I don't honestly know) singles out Muslims ....Hmm
Honestly, I hope he's being misquoted, because its unrealistic to talk about creationism in schools without covering the enormous influence of American funded/inspired Christian fundamentalists in the UK state-school system, and for a member of the clergy to do so is rank hypocrasy.
Whether it's the fault of the interviewer or the interviewee, the article fails in it's duty of care the general public.

As for the knee-jerk reactions from some here it seemed to me that what they had read was this...
Important scientist..blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah...creationism...blah blah blah blah blah blah ..very bad blah blah blah blahblah blah..Uk schools ...blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah... MUSLIMS RESPONSIBLE !!blah blah blah blah
... and gone off on one.

Anyway, I've said all I'm going to for the moment, so I would like to give the final word to the one and only ...
