Well, Ive just been messing about with photoshop and i noticed i could get some really cool effects. Sort of distorted..

Tell me what you think

its a mixture..
i messed about with the threshold then did diffuse on anisotropic, then i just blended some images and patterns together.
you like?

I dont' know who to congratulate, the person who pressed the filter menu item, or the program for doing the actual work

*shrugs* its just filters, sorry :(

yawn  ... this is an art forum, not a "hey look i pressed a mouse button 6 times, and then I actually also moved the mouse a few inches" forum... In fact it would be just a tad bit more artistic to just post a video of you doing it.. like handrecorded to give it wort of a "real feel" :monkee:

:cat:

Always wondered what's the point of cat smiley.

well, I'm not a filter h8ter but I really think you should so something with less filters. :)

BTW, what filter is that? :naughty:

its not a filter

sorry, none of those.
And its not 'just filters'.
sorry if i offended you, will you leave me alone if i promise never to to try and post something in the art section ever again?

I suggest you quit with the attitude, if you can't handle the truth, don't post, period.

Hey! Can't you leave him alone? It's quite suprising how some guy new to photoshop comes in with a cool effect and starts being put down by his superiors. Is that how you want the graphics community to go? You just want it to die from lack of people. We all grow old but there isn't anyone else there to take over... WHAT F**KING POINT IN LIFE IS THAT?

You'd rather me rub his ego with lies that wont help him in ANY way? And let him run around saying they aren't filters when its obvious they are.

There's a difference between helping him and insulting him. Insulting him isn't going to get him anywhere. Did you even read his last post? I didn't say anything about telling the total truth did I?
And there's nothing wrong with a few filters. It's a start. Here you tell him "To do something original using only the Tools Toolbar" or something. Maybe even show him http://www.good-tutorials.com, which would help.

Calm down, guys :) Lte's cheer him up some other way. Hey, I can teach you some hotoshop tricks, y'know! :D

Did you actually read my posts?

I listed the filters used.. How is that insulting him.

Really druckles, your treading a fine line now, I've already told you once before about the way you act on here, and trying to cause a fight is just going to earn you a warning.

He used filters, he denied it, he got upset when people could clearly see he used filters.. You should be telling him not to get so upset.

If you can't handle people being honest with your work, don't show it. Just because he's new to it doesn't mean he should be treated with kid gloves, how will he learn that way, i mean honestly ffs lol. Bullshit him now and its not going to help him for later, he'll just end up being hurt for real, and possibly in situations where it could harm any hopes he has for some future career.

If all you can do is try start arguments druckles, i really think you should stop, now.

¬.¬ Ill stop now. But I did not tell you to bullshit him, if you actually read the post you quoted.
And BTW, where did you tell me about my behaviour? :|

Anywho. Jangle, visit here: http://www.good-tutorials.com, it's really good and has thousands of tutorials and stuff. Most of them are junk, but you can learn aload from here

hey, if youre gonna 'tell the truth' then fine. Hey, im crap at photoshop, and im sorry for trying to use it. Because of your wonderful comments ive learnt how to use photoshop properly.
Thank you very much.

Also, its not my first time at photoshop, ive been using it for quite a while, making sigs and banners for websites.

Why must every post of yours be all boof*ckinghoo? Get over it. You used filters and you found out why people aren't impressed because you didn't put much effort into it, you claimed you didn't use them, got found out, looked silly.. and since then all you've done is mumble insults hidden as "I'm a victim, pity me"

Your pathetic.

He either got a warning or a reply.. since we decided that particular warning was too harsh, he got a reply instead.

I have to agree with dark elf. They're just images that have been distorted and coloured weird... filters or no filters.

Thanks Suicide

Would have if he'd not been so damn defensive and rude in his replies.

If I may play devils advocate for a moment...

Its not just about the techniques you use.

Look at neptuneuk's comics as an example. You could say they're poor based soley off the fact that they're done in MSPaint and the quality of drawing is "low". But actually, the comics are very good when you look at them less...logically. The difficulty level of something doesn't necessarily dictate the quality.

Now, he did use filters yes, which in itself isn't a problem. Though, lying to protect his ego, or whatever is...but it is not my problem, it is his.

Now that summed it up :D So can we stop arguing now, please? :)

I know you're just looking at this from another perspective, but the difference between neptuneuk's comics and these pictures is that the comics have a lot of humour in them, and many of them genuinly made me laugh. The fact that they're drawn in MSpaint is just another thing that adds to the humour and style of the comics.

These pictures, however, have not been given the same amount of time, attention or thought as neptuneuk's comics. They are simpley screenshots from HL2, that were taken by valve, which have been distorted without any taste or regard for the picture. I mean, if they had been changed in a way which empasises a part of the picture or a feeling that the picture protrays, then it would be a profound picture- but instead they're just some sort of strange, colourful version of a screenshot.

but i see what you're saying none the less.

*edit*

i have the perfect example.

http://www.halflife2.net/forums/showthread.php?t=65990&page=1&pp=15

^^^look at the artwork here. Though they are just screenshots of combine attacking rebels (which would look average on their own), the distortion and colour changes has added to the feeling of depression and hopelessness. However, here the effects do not benefit the picture but instead conflict with it, if you understand what i'm saying.

Exactly.. no effort involved, and the attitude just makes it worse.

Look at this thread

http://www.halflife2.net/forums/showthread.php?t=64666

The difference between that guy and Jangle....

1) he says he's learning and he's open to advice

2) he TAKES the advice, he's polite

3) he learns from what people say and keeps trying

Now look at the images further down, look how quickly he improved a LOT, simply because he was polite, wanted to learn and made an effort.

Heh...I didn't notice thay were taken by valve.

By the way, neptuneuk's comics were the first thing to enter my head, and weren't the best example really.

Sure they are someone else´s screenys, but wasnt this just all about showing the "cool effect" discovered in photoshop, and nothing more? well, I think its pretty nice effect anyway.
