The only sex scenes I found unneccessary were Dany and her handmaiden. They didn't serve any real purpose and just seemed to be for their own sake. I imagine (hope?) they'll tone down Tyrion's sex scenes in A Clash of Kings. Reading them is doable; seeing them is quite another.

I think Dany's handmaids were a bit much but not useless. They showed her sexual frustration which is actually a plot point and could be important if certain fan predictions turn out to be true. I think the only truly needless sex scene is Cersei's lesbian one.

Honestly, I dont even remember any of these sex scenes. The only ones I remember actually being described were the Dany and Drogo one, and the first Jaime/Cersei one. I know Tyrion had many whore scenes, but I dont remember any specific times. Thus, i conclude that none of those were necessary.
