Since the legitimate video is posted on the Steam forums, I guess G4 and Valve don't mind us spreading the HDR goodness around the net.

I've taken the liberty of cropping the good bit (the only in-game HDR footage, taken from the new Coast map) into a short small WMV, and hosted it here.

Enjoy.

ty so much, its very short though isnt it,wheres the headcrab peeps were talkin about?

?! Music?! Yourself?!

...you..must...give me...the...song name...

I command you.

Please?

I'm your bitch D:

is there any more footage of the lvl?
Nope, looks good though. Doug does say that this is for top-end graphics cards owners only. Translated I guess that means 6800 / X800 cores.

my x800xt should run it well, might haveto tone down aa though as hl2 was prone to the odd choppiness, well quite frequent actually

Don't worry, FSAA isn't supported by any card when dealing with HDR. :)

*chokes on his 9800pro he got for chrimble!*

Damn you PC Hardware Obsolescence!!!

He said in the interview that it is available for everyone who owns HL2. Just won't look very nice ;)

Makes me want to get out my old Geforce 2.

It's available for everyone that owns HL2, it's not playable for everyone that owns HL2. There's a difference.

will my GeForce FX 5700 Ultra be able to handle the map?!
*prays*

I believe youll be able to play it, just not see all the effects. Theres no point in only allowing people with 6800/x800 gfx cards to play it. What about the people just interested in the gameplay or "lost coast"

It doesn't look all that different, just brighter. Maybe it's the video quality? I like the music choice too. :)

Great to finally see some footage. I wonder if Valve will release this in Bink format. Wait...they still ahven't released the rest of the ones from last years E3 haven't they?

Hopefully it'll be a fun little level.

You'll enjoy a good ol' framerate of like.. 10 with older hardware. If you're lucky. :)

[huggles his new computer parts]

plz dont brag about ur comp. parts it just makes me wish i could have them

The headcrab walks across the floor about halfway through the clip... keep watching the lower right corner.

I wonder what FPS I'll get with my 9800 Pro... It'll run (If I'm allowed to, that is), because truly I have run the tests out there with good results... Question is how demanding HL2 will be.

It should work with all the bells and whistles on a 9800Pro. It's not the newest card, but still has the good stuff. Looking forward to getting my hands on the this.

oh ok then,thats good news
ACTUALLY, there was recently an update to the DirectX 9 SDK that fixes the "bug" where AA was turned off for effects such as bloom (geeks out there: for any render-to-texture stuff) so anything that has been recompiled using the updated SDK has this fix. For example, WoW recently got a patch including a recompiled graphics module thing so that the full-screen glow now has AA. I would assume that the HDR source update would include this fix.

Theres also another that walks down the corridor at the far end of this... hall... that is just viseble between the HDR screen and without screen. At the 10 second mark you can see it.

Edit: Actually, that second headcrab appears at about 6 seconds in from a patch of darkness on the far side.

Looks good. My PC won't be able to handle if for shit. Oh well.

It's not the same thing. No current hardware supports AA on rendering into a higher precision texture/render target. HDR does need rendering into a such higher precision texture/render target so AA is not an option. It's a hardware limitation of current graphiccards.

I saw that earlier today. Hot stuff. I can't wait to see how my X800 XT PE handles it. :)

will this hdr reduce jaggies though too like prince of persia which doesnt support aa but is jaggie free coz of its bloom or will we just have to accept jaggies?

Jaggies aren't really a problem if you have a really high resolution too, which is probably what all the 6800 / X800 people will be doing anyway.

Will it run with my specs:

2.4 GB proccessor
512 MB RAM
5200FX (Soon to be a 9600XT)

Probably not too well, but to be honest nobody really knows.

The way Lombardi's been talking, I'm kinda worried about how my 6800 GT will do.

Are you insane?! 6800GT would own it.

EDIT: Is there anyway to get the entire thing instead of just that small clip?

I got the original from this thread.

I'm not sure even 9800s will be able to put out a decent framerate with HDR Source ... Doug said this is only for the top notch systems only. HDR Rendering is a big feature of next-gen engines. Valve said they are not catering for backwards compatibility to any older machines - if your system isn't up to the job, don't even bother downloading the lost coast.

Doug Lombardi at G4 said:
What are the system specs for "The Lost Coast?"

Right now it’s still kind of TBD. It’s going to be for the power user, absolutely. It’s going to have some effects on RAM and on processor speed, so you’re going to need to be in the upper echelon. But it’s specifically attacking the GPU so it’s going to be only the very latest GPUs—and even there, we’re still finalizing the details as to which cards exactly.
Don't for one second think that 9800pros or GeforceFX5950s are the latest cards. It's clear that by this statement he meants that only the X800 / 6600 / 6800 cores have the muscle needed to put out HDR scenes with any kind of playable framerate.

If I want to watch that movie with a movieplay (BSPlayer, WMV, Winamp, Quicktime, ... ) it gives an error :(

I can only watch our version, but I also want to see the interview with Doug Lombardi.
I'm not 100% sure but I think you need the DivX codec to play that video.
