It's being produced by the Scott brothers though, isn't it? I suppose a lot depends on how much leeway Fox gives them.

It'll just be another shitty addition to the legacy of the first two movies.

Why the unfounded hatred?

There hardly any information on this movie yet. :/

Theres a rating of PG-13. Thats enough to know everything about it.

I don't see it saying PG-13 anywhere in that article?

I recall an interview with Sigourney Weaver a while back where she said she'd spoken to Ridley Scott, and he wanted to do a prequel to Alien, explaining the origins of the ALiens themselves, and the Space Jockey.

I had to look up who Carl Rinsch was.

HE'S A ****ING NOBODY. He wrote and directed two shorts more than a ****ing decade ago

Why the unfounded hatred?

Unfounded? Did you see Alien 3, Alien 4, AVP, and AVP2?

OMG! LET'S ALL WRITE THE FILM OFF RIGHT NOW! YORICK HAS SPOKEN. THREAD CLOSED.

OMG! LET'S ALL WRITE THE FILM OFF RIGHT NOW! YORICK HAS SPOKEN. THREAD CLOSED.

I KNEW I COULD COUNT ON YOUR SUPPORT.

You're just angry because you're one of three people who actually liked the AvP movies.

No, I didn't actively dislike them. Were they worthy successors to the Alien (or Predator) franchise? No. Were they generally watchable in their own right? Sure.

Also, I have always maintained (and it's probably quotable somewhere) that what Fox needed to do was get Ridley Scott in to do an Alien prequel, and beg James Cameron to come back to do an Aliens sequel. It looks like they're kind of halfway there on the first one.

I think they where pretty cool.

Boy that sentence just says it all about you.

No, I know I've heard you say that before. But I don't think that is what's going to happen, even here.

Ridley Scott had mentioned before (if you trust AintItCool) that his movie idea might feature the Alien Homeplanet which might be cool, but also doesn't really fit the feeling of Alien, which I think is what we really want. Sigourney said in an interview with MTV that she felt the creature has been overexposed, which I definitely agree with.

Bottom line. Fox has made a joke out of their own franchise. And given how notorious they are for making decisions that I don't agree with, and given how they made money off of what was a horrible movie, I can't see them turning around an investing enough money to make a good money that would earn marginally more money. Fox just doesn't care that much.

Bottom line, if this comes out and is awesome, then I'll be all the happier. But I'm certainly not going to hold my breath.

OMG! LET'S ALL WRITE THE FILM OFF RIGHT NOW! YORICK HAS SPOKEN. THREAD CLOSED.

Let us not be too hasty. What is Yorick's word without mine? They work in conjunction with one another; an indivisible whole, delivering absolutism in its wake!

Why the unfounded hatred?

It's the principle of it. I think the point is, there is no need for this shitty, worthless prequel (as it certainly will be) to exist, much like the impending The Thing prequel. Of course, there is no such symmetry in this case; where the latter is strictly standalone, Aliens has been raped, pillaged, and plundered for a good four movies now, each successive director producing an even smellier turd. I'm not sure stepping back in time is going to solve this issue.

So, thumbs down.

I think there's a lot that can be explored with the Aliens themselves because they're really fascinating, and I'd love to see more with them. But that's like saying I find velociraptors interesting and would like to see more movies with dinosaurs. It doesn't change the fact that another Jurassic Park movie would almost certainly suck.

I cannot express my ****ing anger right now.

First The Thing, now Alien?

If they explain the whole Space Jockey thing (which is the only thing I can think of?) I will be so ****ing upset, the mystery behind that has always been creepy.

My thoughts on The Thing prequel pretty much gel with how I feel about Aliens:

The Thing is such a fantastic piece of work. It is a cohesive, perfectly crafted whole that requires no elaboration, no further interpretation, no re-evaluation. This is stripping it apart, and shining a light in corners intentionally darkened.

Unfounded? Did you see Alien 3, Alien 4, AVP, and AVP2?

too be honest, i never found anything majorly wrong with 3 & 4, sure there weaker Squeals but they were watchable and considerable better than movie shit they show these days.

avp movie's on the other hand, deserve the bashing they get, trash movies.

But saying that, this isn't a prequel to a AVP movie, is it? No I didn't think so.

Uh lets see, super basketball playing Ripley, acid Blood Ripley, Mutant Alien/Ripley crossover, shall I continue?

Squeals, eh?

And of course you didn't. Look, you're an idiot. You don't recognise poor writing, poor effects, poor cinematography, and things of that nature. You just think "OH BRIGHT COLORS AND SHINY THINGS 10/10".

But saying that, this isn't a prequel to a AVP movie, is it? No I didn't think so.

No, but AVP obviously reflects the level of quality that the movies of this franchise have sunk to.

o_O Do fox seriously not care??

No I am being completely serious, do movie studios just think that they can't a good movie so they will make a bad movie on purpose to make money through the profit versus its obviously cheap budget (lets face it in relative terms this guy may not be getting paid alot in comparison to someone like ridley scott)

X-Men Origins Wolverine is getting a sequel. I think that says it all.

Look, whats with the insults, I expressed my opinion, if you don't like it, you can puck a shit out of your ass for all I care. I never said they were sheer master pieces, I said there watchable, that's it.

I just don't have this fanboyism you guys have when it comes to movies, you guys seem to fault one thing and then consider it shit, you criticize movies that haven't come out it, well somethings it deserves it, but most days it doesn't.

I've seen the 'to be' director's ad work, it seems rather interesting, you guys are too opinionated imho.

I'd rather wait for reviews to make my mind up to something, rather than pre-judge it.

I bid you adieu.

The idea of an Alien prequel in this day and age is preposterous.
After Alien 3, Resurrection, and the AvP movies... I'm not expecting this to stray from that trail of (entertaining but not Alien or Aliens in any way shape or form)shit.

Just because the director is Ridley Scott's brother doesn't mean shit, they're two different people with different ideas and I've no doubt that Ridley is going to have nothing to do with this.

Actually this news has reminded me that I have never seen AVP2 and still don't want to either :| totally forgot there was a second one

On topic, want to see the funniest ****ing thing ever?

:LOL::LOL::LOL:

To my mind the only aspects of the original film that seem a little dated now are things like the computer room (IE white room with lots of meaningless lights) and the various non flat green on black monitors, and maybe a bit of a tidy up of the alien so when you do see him, its not a man in a suit.

You know what'd be cool? If the prequel was a film adaptation of Aliens: Earth Angel. I always loved that comic.

It'd never happen, though.

You're missing out. I don't give a fuck what anybody else in here says. Wolf shoryukens through the fucking ground with a power fist and tears aliens apart. And he's got a whip made of their goddamned TEETH.

How is he missing out when you have to turn the ****ing brightness all the way up on the god damn TV to even see any of the action? :frown:

I never had that problem.

But then again I've watched the Darkstalkers OAVs without messing with the gamma. You want to talk about "can't see shit"...

I tried to understand this post, but there are just so many errors that confuse me. I can "puck a shit"? What the hell does that even mean? "Somethings it deserves it, but most days it doesn't"? What?

I hope you speak better than you type, because goddamn if you're at the same level on both you might need to be encased in a block of ice in the basement for a few thousand centuries.
