It's finally yours. The map that changes the face of HL2DM!

I just spent 8 hours playing with all of you and it was a great deal of action and fun. I got my arse kicked in so many ways...

Now what we need is more fast Dedicated servers!!!!

I tried to play it, but my ping was around 450 on that HL2Files server :(

Actually you just have to read the readme that comes with it... It says "Installation notes" in the filename... :rolleyes:
 
Tried, fun but games with many players lag, and the objectives are unbalanced:

Rebel base is a big house with many entrances and a combine trooper can easily get in and throw some nades in the control room = win

Combine base has basically one entrance point so if you want to go rescue alyx you have to kill every combine in your way, but the objective (alyx) is located in the goddamn SPAWN ROOM, so everyone you kill on your way there is coming back straight at you, making getting alyx impossible on larger servers. :flame:
 
Basically, if someone is guarding alyx it isnt possible to get her, even if you kill the guy he comes back 5 seconds later with full health and the plasma rifle.

And even if nobody is guaring her there's big chance someone will spawn there anyway (at least if your team is good and kill combine often)
 
Nicely done, its a beautiful map, except the lag and unbalanced parts. One other crititism, i found that sometimes when combine spawn you see them spawn in rebel first then combine quickly, meaning you get a glitch whereby the combine have a pulse rifle AND an mp7 and the biggest problem a gravity gun. I witnesses several times Alyx being hauled all the way back to the combine base with combine with gravity guns? Surely thats not allowed..***ins the game completely :imu:

Overwatch: beleive me, it all works and we did it more than once.

1- Alyx is far and well guarded but when you pick her up and bring her closer to the HQ, Combines can't lift her so they can't bring her back to their base.

2- People don't know the map well and they WILL better defend the HQ once they know the rooms and ways to get in the Control Room. See me on a map, you will NOT get to this Control room easily. :)

Play it with more than 4 good players on a fast server you'll see.

If the server lags, you might encounter problems. Faster servers are better of course. And you clicking to spawn faster will avoid such problems as the combines hanging in the air.

It sucks when a combine gets a gravgun, you can pick one up when a Rebel die too! Rare though but part of the game.

Sweet MQ :) Some people had it on deathmatch mode and then just camped Combine spawn, was kinda gah cause it ruined the point of the map :(

Hopefully I can find a good server :D
 
Iced: they shouldn't play it on regular Deathmatch mode. :) I'm not responsible for anything happening on regular DM server with my map! hehe

lol I know, I'm just telling server operators out there that if they want to play this map, make sure it's on TDM mode!!!!

Oh and don't put on more players than your server can hold also ServerOps!!! I would much rather have a smaller, less lag game, than a huge lag-fest...

So combines can't lift her huh, how come I have seen alot of combines with gravity guns?
 
Hm, I was dissapointed with the map...

The rain was terrible... No sounds.. No splashing on ground... No sign of rainy weather, or wetness on the ground. Looked more like you found a rain tutorial and decided "heck" and put it in.

The mechanics of the map are horrible... Only one way into the rebel's part of the map... Rebel's have access to the rocket launcher AND the crossbow... The two best weapons in the game.

Too hard to manuever Alyx around inside the house...

The brushwork was some dissapointing... Lots of shadow bugs and artifacts... You really could have optimised ALOT.

Should of done a couple beta tests with the public...

Hope your next map is better...

Oh, and I think you only have like, 2 spawn points on each side of the map... When the server starts up all you hear is SPLEEAACCH@H@@!!! (Everyone telefrags)

Where are you from? In the NW of the US we get rain like that ALL the time. Light sprinkle with some sun breaking through the clouds. So light it does not make much noise at all. So my experience with soft rain says it is not bad.

I think you misunderstand the point/design of the map and gameplay.

The gate is an objective. So of course there is only one way in :| It requires teamwork to overcome this issue. It is a design decision implemented to focus the gameplay and prevent the rogue lone wolf attitude. Many team based games have similar objectives and layouts.

As for the weapons, I disagree. The combine get the pulse rifle which is EXTREMELY effective in skilled hands. The Combine also have a lot of cover to guard against the RPG and crossbow. And if you move with a group and move quickly the crossbow is not even an issue at the gate. Once through the gate there is a lot of cover and entries to the base.

He did a number of public tests AND asked for feedback. Check the forums.

As for the map, I have not seen a map that looks better yet. And to cap it off, some of the nicer looking maps are just junk randomly placed on a map. "Hmmm I think I will put a cargo canister here, a car there, and a square pool here". This map really tries to keep a HL2 like theme. You have the creeping in wall, the security gate, some old ruins and a beaten down Rebel base.

And the gameplay really pulls the HL2 theme into MP. It fits the story spot on.

Hope your next map is better...

I hope Moonquakes next map is better also! But this one is pretty darn great!

I guess you cannot please everyone.
 
aye, but i believe somethings could still be better

Rain like that, which lasts the entirity of the map and as heavy as that would produce puddles on the floor and a wet arena, which would have added more atmosphere for me and made more sense.

Alyx is hard to move in the combine base as well, especially up the stairs, its like trying to take a frigging wheelchair up there.

Although he did test it many times, theres spawning issues at the start, and grav guns for the combines along with random deaths and people getting stuck in the horse near the rebel base. So what im saying is that is good he tested it but MORE was necessary.

Lastly i would like to say its a great looking map, probably the best which fits the HL2 theme. Just somethings which bugged me, like the objectives being uneven, the base seems to be a bit of a maze and lack of any BIG event which i thought woulda made it really exciting, like the citadel moving in, or a helicopter! or the combine statoin getting blown up. I felt it was tad boring after a while, but thats just my opinion. Best attempt so far.

I agree, it is not perfect. It can use some work, but I also agree it is the best effort yet. The contest is wrapped up so I can see the desire to push it through. And something is better than nothing.

We all got to start somewhere. Btw, Moonquake is very receptive to user feedback. I sent a very long list of issues, criticisms, and suggestions. I think a big part of giving constructive criticism is pointing out positives and negatives. Empahsis and build on positives and work on negatives so they become positives. And if you do not like something, ALWAYS give a suggestion to fix it or to improve things. Those pet peeves really help map/mod makers.
 
Acert: ... I couldn't have better answered vegeta. You really seem to understand what can be done and what can't be done with this engine. I know it's hard not to complain when there are few bugs on something that's new and revolutionary, and people want to cry out loud that the whole thing sucks hoping it would be better. Well, I did my freakin' best and in fact, MANY of the features that I've done in this map were never before seen, period.

I also have no control over how the whole thing will react with bad installations or corrupted files. MANY people didn't read the Readme or the forums and Unzipped my ZIP using Windows and they all got corrupted files and run problematic servers. Vegeta, thanks for sharing your opinion though. Thanks for taking the time to criticize because that's how things get better. The problem seems to be that you don't put things on perspective and you jump to conclusions a bit too quickly. Solutions are welcome and constructive ideas are ideal! I will fix all that has to be fixed and CAN be fixed! :)

I didn't pay Acert and what he said about the gameplay and the effects is just darn true. Also:

-Don't know if people get all the shader effects turned ON, but 75% of all outdoor textures in Revolters have reflections on it simulating the rain that wet everything around. Including the ground. And yes, if you look up the sky, you see grey clouds leaving for the bluesky that arrives. The rain lasts 5 min then stops. What's wrong with that? again Acert was right: I've seen this weather happening all the time.

-There are 16 spawn points, not 2.

-Like Acert said, 3 versions of the map were tested publicly.

-And for Alyx, just pick her up side ways and you'll make it inside the HQ super easy.


Things aren't always easy to do the first time... life would be boring this way, don't you think!? :) Practice and you'll get better.

If you guys see me on a server, I'll show you how to accomplish all the objectives super easily and how to guard the Control room.

Evil I repost for you! Combines can get a gravgun. But it's rare. Just like Rebels can get an Ar2 rarely. :)

Can somebody explain me how people get stuck on the horse outside? Just by passing by or when you try to jump on it?

MQ, some things I've noticed:

- At the very back end of the map, at the rebel base, there's this house, near the metal combine barricade that blocks off the map. This barricade doesn't have any hit detection (no decals, sound or impacts when you shoot it) is it part of the 3D skybox or something? Oh, and at the same spot, you can get stuck between the stairs of the house and the displacement maps there.
- The park bench near the combine base can be picked up with the grav gun, but once you hold it, you can't blast it away it seems.
- The combine base is too dark, might be my monitor, but I had a hard time finding the stairs upwards (without flashlight).
- The shadow of the train is funky, now I know you can't solve this (engine issue), but can't you disable it casting shadows?

But besides that, awesome map :thumbs:
 
Just two points:
-Combine getting gravgun didnt seem that rare, first game I played it happened, and ruined it.
-That turret kept killing me as a rebel. :(
But apart from that pretty damn good map, although I have to really downtune HL2DM to get a good fps, so I cant comment on it graphically whilst doing it justice.

Thanks alot, it really is a good map, glad you took the contructive crititism and used it to better your work! Look forward to the update

with regard to the horse, i havent experienced it, but ive seen several players saying 'HELP! stuck, ****ing horse has got me' etc. I assume its on the horse they mean...but i dont know how they got up there. Try it yourself, im sure its a simple fix! Good luck.
