Quick Question;

I have an,

-Advent T9201
-3.4 GHz
-Pent 4
-512MB DDR
-250GB Sata HDD (7200rpm)
-ATI Radeon 9550 256mb

Is it worth me upgrading my 512mb ddr?

and is it worth me getting a better GFX card, for example a 9800pro

I would like to play HL2 on medium-high settings.

yes it is i had a 9550 and got a 9800 pro 128 and 1 gig ram and it doubled in speed then i got a new pc a few months ago with x800 pro and love it

you have the cpu now you just need 9800 pro 256 or x800 like mine and you will have 100+ fps in cs:s trust me with all eye candy set to high it looks unbelivable upgrade to 1 gig too ram. I cant wait to see hl2 with everything set to high its going to make cs:s look like nothing. plus what fps you get on stress test

Thnx for the help m8

Another quick question how much would it cost to upgrade to 1gig ram

well if it is pc 3200 it will cost around 80$ or 100$ for a good brand i have generic brands and they work great 70$

Have a shop around - and also consider the 6800 or the 6800 gt (which will be my next purchase once i've sold my 9800 pro).

Extra memory is always welcome - but i'd go for a new gfx card first. You can always get more ram leter on, and is probably not the top priority at the mo.

Video Card Upgrades

9800 Pro: 114 GBP
6800 NU: 163 GBP
6800 GT: 217 GBP

Can somebody tell me if my conversions are right? I used a currency converter.

Those are your best upgrade choices. The X800 Pro is the same price as the 6800 GT. The 6800 GT is a smidgen faster than the X800 Pro. The X800 Pro is still an awesome performer. Any of these cards I listed will play HL2 at its maximum graphical settings (sans AA). The 6800 GT will most definetly play HL2 with AA and AF enabled.

If you do get anything higher than a 9800 Pro, I would recommend buying more RAM as well. You don't want to accidentally create a system bottleneck around your RAM if you upgrade your video card.
