I do want this game, I played through the 1st game pretty damn quickly and it was really addicting. also sorry for the stupid thread name, didn't know how to get people in here

Everyone I know says Dirt was ass. I bought it the day it came out and do not regret it at ALL.

Manual shifting ftw in this game, it makes it a million times more fun, most games manual shifting is just tedious.

Can't wait, DiRT was my favorite racing game in the past few years.

I have the force feedback wheel too and I never tried it on the 1st game (traded it in) but I have a feeling digging that out and trying it with this game will be amazing

What's a force feedback wheel? Steering wheel that jerks around? Didn't even know those existed.

Didn't Codemasters buy up the guys who did the Sega Rally game for the next-gen consoles?

If that's correct, awesome, because Sega Rally was an awesome racer on the 360, as was DiRT too.

Kinda bummed out they didn't include the REAL terrain deformation from Sega Rally though, it was awesome, they had like a deformable 10 CM or something like that map, so when cars drove, it would both graphically and physically deform the terrain, making it a lot harder and more like real rally racing.:)

Also, I wish the Logitech G25 was compatible with the 360, because it would be awesome to play DiRT2 with that, and sadly my PC is too shitty for DiRT2 so..:(

If they expand the rallying I'll prolly pick it up since GT is taking forever.

I haven't played Dirt 1 that much but it looked like a really neat game. Second had good graphics from what I could see from that footage, even though if it wasn't that high resolution.

They've existed for a while. I remember playing Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit like over 10 years ago with one.

I haven't used a force-feedback wheel for years. Has it improved in any way since 2000? :p

*vid*
this is test drive but you can see how much the wheel pulls, its fun...i love mine. i just got bored with racing games lately but Dirt 2 looks nice

Does it have break/gas pedals and shifting handle too? I used to have one for playstation (wasn't force feedback) and it had pedals/shifter it was awesome. If that one has those things I'm buying for sure.

Holy shit that's cool.

it has the pedals you place on the floor of course but the shifter are just a knob that are behind the steering wheel

The gametrailers video looks amazing (kinda boring if your not danger freak), but I couldn't really tell - did they fix the way the car steers around the center instead of from the front? It was like the cars had four wheel steering in Dirt [1].

Now it looks like the cars handle right, but the trailing camera (from behind the car) just makes it look that way. Every other racing game, when you slide around turns, you see the side of your car, but the Dirt camera sticks directly behind the car.

I'm a huge codemasters fan, but I find that camera fixation extremely annoying! I know you need to be able to see the road ahead, but loosen up a little!

Codemasters may be the first publisher to officially announce a game that will use DirectX11, the next version of Microsoft's 3D graphics API that will be included in Windows 7 when it's released on October 22. That game happens to be DiRT 2, the upcoming off-road racing sequel (known in the UK as Colin McRea: DiRT 2). Unfortunately, the use of DirectX11 will mean that the PC version will be delayed until December (it will still be released on consoles in September).

According to the press release, this move will allow the PC port to support the new graphical features of DirectX11 such as "hardware tessellation, multi-threading and Shader Model 5.0." AMD will be supporting Codemasters by providing their input on "software engineering expertise in DirectX 11 technologies such as tessellation and shader modelling."

oh man does that look good. oct 22nd is so close to my birthday too!

That's only the Windows 7 release date.

It's actually a bad thing. Patch in DX11 support later no ones gives a damn.

Boy that makes me glad I haven't bought a new comp yet, gonna make sure to get a DX11 compatible one.:D

Most current ATI cards support most of the features but for full compatibility you'll have to wait out for the HD5000 or GTX300 series which should come out around the windows 7 launch later this year

Its getting close to that time where I need to upgrade my PC. Definately going to wait for this then, because Is sure do gives a damn.

PC development version on 'full blast' obviously. Keep in mind, in most races there is just your car to render, sometimes 1 other car.

VirusType2, did you play the original DiRT? In many of the races I played there was more than just "your car" to render.. Upwards of 3-4 at least at the same time in many races.

I have it. The only races I ran in, it was just me racing the clock or one other car, except for the races with the trucks or buggies.

My computer couldn't handle having more than one other car, which emphasizes my point. Normally, my frame rate was towards the 30s, but on the tracks with several cars, my framerate would be less than 10; it was undrivable.

Towards the end of the game, there were more of the buggy/truck races. I had to stop playing until I get a better video card/CPU.

EDIT: nah, that probably doesn't mean anything, Gargantou is right.

I really just wanted to argue that the game probably is capable of graphics like this. You can't really see the detail in the gameplay videos.

If you played DiRT, then you know that the game has insane graphics. The screenshots I chose are really nice, but from a zoom level and cool viewpoints you won't be seeing when you play the game.

It looks like Dirt 2 has taken a few pages out of Race Driver GRID's book...which has got me excited. GRID was, is, awesome.

Ive only played a bit of Dirt and have heard its pretty average, but judging by the videos for Dirt 2, it could be worth a pickup.

I didn't even know codemasters did GRID. I just watched a gameplay video and it's good. I will definitely pick that game up sometime.

Oh, I played it on the 360, so I didn't have to worry about performance.

I would love to get a second monitor and new rig soon. Hopefully the price of the Quad core processors drop soon I'm hoping. also not only did Dirt 1 look good, but the controls were tight and the game was addicting. hands down one of my favorite racing games of the past 8 years or so

It looks like theyve taken the GRID engine and improved it. The racing style and the way the cockpits look are pretty much identical to that of GRID.

Just take GRID's drifting aspects, change the asphalt to dirt and mud, change the supras, rx-7s etc for rally cars and youve got Dirt?

FYI, DiRT, GRiD, DiRT2 and Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, all share the same engine, but DiRT2 is using the newest version of it from what I've gathered.

DiRT came out before GRID, you know. They improved upon the DiRT game engine.

They've been improving upon their racing games for like 15 years:

>TOCA Touring Car series/Race Driver series/GRID

>Colin McRae Rally series/DiRT series

Am still waiting for the GRID sequel after DiRT 2

I had fun with DiRT but I can't just race rally cars all the time, need some supercars

Holy crap at that time.

Best ive blasted through so far is 03:08.something. So I guess thats quite far off.

The demo (which is up now on xbl and psn europe) is pretty much what you expect.

Baja is my personally least enjoyable, but the trail blazer (a rally basically) is addicting. Just that one more second. Just one more time to get that corner right.

What Codemasters has done here is something pretty special. Having only played GRID, so I cant compare to Dirt, GRID's menu was the slickest and coolest menu ive ever used. The way it swooshes around to everything, you know what I mean if youve played it.

Dirt 2's blows GRID's menu out of the water. This is the slickest menu system ive ever seen in a videogame. We kind of take the menus for granted, but when youre in a driver's pen with fully animated backgrounds of crowds, helicopters, music playing like youre at some concert, cars racing past now and again, flags flapping, its COMPLETELY immersive and just SO beautiful.

Graphically its stunning.

God I cant wait for this game now. GRID was awesome. This looks to beat it.
