Hl1 setting compared to Hl2

I think the reason I prefer HL2 over HL1's settings, is the fact that Black Mesa, (at least in Half-life, in opfor and BS they kinda corrected this) consisted of normal areas, Anomoulous materials lab, followed by useless areas after useless area after useless ares, then an office complex, UA, UA, UA, some silos, a well-designed lobby or a beatiful dam, then more UAs, then some cliffs, then UA, UA, an armory and some damaged building an stuff, then a lot of UA, and then the Lambda labs... And then Xen, but the less said about Xen the better.
Again; What was the point of those huge mixers mixing radioactive waste in residue proccessing? And who designed that railway in on a rail? I mean, the London subway is easier to navigate ffs!
EDIT* 1984 is a book about a totalitarian society, in which The Party controls actions, entertainment, newspapers, archives, what people eat and even how they think, even thinking that the party sucks can get you into trouble (read: get you killed), no-one is allowed to any privacy, kids are taught to spy on their parents, everyone is spoonfead propaganda from birth etc etc etc.

well.. i just noticed how many puzzles that hl1 had in that hell hole we called black mesa. Hl2 outdoor enviorments had puzzles but of a different nature (pull lever, kill comebine without letting alyx die..etc). I think we all remember the teleporter spheres in hl1 :flame:

those teleporters mocked me.

"ooh, lets teleport him back to where he started. That would be funny." :frown:

1984 was a book by George Orwell. Something about politcal statements. I've only read animal farm.

*Back on topic*

Of course, as the overall vibe, HL2 pwns HL. Don't get me wrong, i loved HL... but being stuck in a science lab for (almost) the whole game bugged me a lot.

Regardless, it was a lot of clever pacing, wasn't it?

sorry Jintor, but i have to disagree. I think the special thing about Black mesa was that with a certain amount of skill, the mappers and designers at valve could create different settings that would still be considered a part of a large and "realistic" lab. The admin, the labs, the power stations, the outdoor dam, the lambda complex, the forever-like elevators.

Speaking of elevators, in HL1 they were the bomb. the first time i played hl and jumped on the elevator down into the bowels of black mesa after the accident i could help but feel that i was in for some serious s$@#. and i wasnt dissapointed. I just feel that HL2 lacked that charisma and originality that gave HL1 is playability value (to me at least).

Every 2 months or so i play HL1 just coz i miss the whole setting of Black mesa, and i mean, HL2 was awesome with great graphics but its setting is just too common, specially in these new FPS coming out like the endless collection of ww2 games, military strategies Rainbow six etc.

yeah i go back and play it often too, thats why i cant wait for blackmesa  source
