HL2 copy protection

I am sure in 4 months time when all the core steamers and valve strokers have bought HL2 and the games sales have dropped of the face of the planet and the money has stopped rolling in they will release a authentication free version for everybody without a connection and steam haters to buy........

Come on, the copy protection sucks (I know, I will get flamed for this, but hear me out). I mean, the have the same protection, sort of, in CS:S and that thing got cracked and published on the internet without hours. If they want to remove pirates they should start with those playing CS:S illegally. And yes, the copy protection seems like a good idea, but what's stopping the pirates from makeing people play HL2 the same way as they did with CS:S?
