HL2 done preloading

anyone else getting this? if it's done preloading, will it go gold now...or do they plan to make more changes to what's already been preloaded?

Nah, that's the usual comment if a pre-load stage has finished downloading...

All that means is that the pre-loading, of the files they made available, is complete, not the entire game.

I believe that just means you have a complete download of pre-load files they've released SO FAR.

I predict there is still another final preload, or perhaps 2 more preloads.

well it never went over 51% before....it stayed at 51% since the day after the last stage. and it went up by a certain amount after each new stage was released.

if you buy through steam you will get get the last few files to play Counter strike source and then youll get hl2 when its released and being sold in stores. going gold when the game is finalised and they create a gold master disk from which they print all the thousands of cd's/dvds for distrubution in the retail boxes that you buy in the store. going gold doesnt mean its been released

wow thanks for that explanation of what going gold means...that wasn't what i was suggesting...

i was merely suggesting that it's complete...it never said that before and i've restarted steam every time a new stage was released. it's never said "a locked copy of hl2 is on your computer"...in fact it never said anything but "blah% complete" until this morning

it was not an explanation, an explanation of gold would look like this:

Gold is when a game's RC (release candidate) is sent to the developer's (valve) Publisher (vivendi) and they approve that it has minimal to no bugs, and is up to standards (gameplay, graphics etc) for release.
it is then stamped as gold (final copy to be sent to manufacturers) and shipped off for reproduction, a release date is announced and the game is made available on said date.

no need for the sarcasm, I answered your initial question.
the game has not gone GOLD, your steam is messing up if this is the first time it has said that.
it tells you that whenever you double click on the HL2 icon and there is no update available. (I know I double click mine everyday out of habit) it has done this for like a month now.


if this is the first time it has not said "blah% complete" all it means is it took you a long ass time to get the preloads, and now you have all the preloads done.
it only says % done, when busy downloading.

well thanks for that...i guess my steam is messing up...i've also clicked on my icon every day for a long time as well and i'll i've ever seen a percentage

i know what gold means...jeeze
