HL2 Lost momentum

Who else thinks that a month before e3 ( when we got the first pictures ) and at e3 half life 2 was on top of the world.

Now the forums are less populated than before, other games are getting hyped ( call of duty anyone ? ) a lot by magazines and online websites. The reason is because valve really ****ed up that part of marketing. Broken promises about videos( people were too childinsh to wait so a lot of people are angry), no more release date, ****ed up publisher doind stupid public comments about delays while valve didnt say a thing.

What do you think can bring back hl2 on the right track of marketing cause as of right now im looking way more forward to buy and play call of duty online than hl2. ut2k4 is pretty certain too and is said to be much better than expected. Now dont get me wrong, valve answered a lot of interviews/emails but its always the same thing. We need more stuff, maybe teasers or stuff. The secret codes for doom 3 imo are really good. Valve need to start a new marketing plan right now to hype the shit our of the game as we are theorically less than 1 month before one of the biggest game release in the past couple of years.

i dont really care or worry that much actually.
As soon as hl2 is to be seen on the shelves, no serious pc gamer is giong to care greatly about other games like call of duty (i'm not saying thats not a good game...).

valve knows that. sure they could have done more promotion, but the names enough for everyone to get excited...

Max payne 2 will be out soon, as will deus ex 2. I personally will buy deus ex 2 if they come out at the same time....

Cue for more videos. New videos. And i know you watch this forum gabe. GO OOON! supprise us with something, you know you want to!

Also, deus ex 2 looks fantastic. cant wait!
Max Payne two on the otherhand, I dunno. Not my style i guess.

Who cares? You have too much time on your hands. Go outside or something.

If the game is suppose to come out in 38 days sept 30. Then they sure are running out of time to release the steam vids and tell us about multiplayer. We have not had a new vid in 2 weeks and there are a few left to go. If they did 1 per week we have 4 till release. Once that delay was announced they slowed down the release of the vids on steam. And they refuse to say it will ship sep 30. So because they dont talk, dont release info, act strange, I think it will be late. It just looks bad. I am not as excited as I was just after e3 thats for sure. No other game has me excited either though.

hey inferno i am talking about their marketing and promotions, if you just want to **** the thread by acting like your cool on a message board than get the **** out. You answered the tipycal reply of the guy who doesnt go outside actually. You act like you do to reassure yourself that you have a life and you are above internet people.

to sum it up Inferno you are a retard so dont post here ever again.

thanks

The answer is really simple: The benchmark and the SDK.
If the benchmark is released with for instance a level like the E3 techdemo with the manipulator weapon included, many will be happy tossing around things until HL2 is released :)

For Christ sake people, nobody gives a shit about new movies but hardcore HL2 fans. On all boards I go, like Deus Ex 2, Gamespy, Gamespot, Black Isle and so on, when asked what games you will buy, people always have HL2 in their list. You see the range of people who interested in this game? Not only FPS fans, but many others. Stop with useless panic. You are so spoiled, it is amazing.

I spose I am a die hard fan now. Meh, I have good reason. I am making a mod for the game. I want as much as I can get. Well thats my excuse!
But, dont get me wrong, I dont *need* all the new vids and everything. I have a life elsewhere.

Mr.Reak, your a nice guy but that was a bit uncalled for. I am not spoiled. And not everyone is panicing. Just excited thats all. :)

EDIT: HEY, post count has gone again!

WAHOOOOOO!

But I am glad to see that I am still a Hydra and it still says date joined

Well, I for one don't give a crap about any new media - screw new movies, pics, etc. All I want is a definitive answer on the release. I have a feeling it isn't coming on Sept. 30 (that's only 38 days away and they still say no comment). It's just getting to that point where they either have to tell us one way or the other. Here hopes I'm wrong, but what's up with the no comment crap. A couple of days ago I could understand, but anymore I'm simply getting antsy about this. Oh well... I got other things to keep me occupied, but it would be nice to know, ya know?

It has lost momentum maybe, but that's what matters now. The game is only months away it doesn't need any momentum anymore, all the hype surrounding the greatest sequel of all time has even reached Tibet and Nigeria.

If Valve was to release new media, all i would want was 1 vid some screens, and maybe some official Valve Half-Life 2 wallpapers.

I really don't think HL 2 has lost momentum, were just twiddling our thumbs while waiting for the game to come out.

Why do people always say this? Youre obviousl inside too , and you took enough time to register here , we should all go outside , but maybe we have more interesting things to do inside.

the benchmark is not going to be "playable" it's not an engine demo, or a game demo.

I really dont care about a benchmark either. And the movies show us what the game will look and play like. I find that important... yeah we have seen them before but it looks like crap on that .avi of a vid. I saw the 512 meg demo and when the docs part played I thought it looked horrible then I saw the high res and I could see the sky and all the details it looks great now.

I hope the game pushes the limits on todays hardware anyways. It drives the market forward. The hardware will catch up then the software will push again... ect....

The Half-Life 2 hype machine has lost a little momentum only because Valve wanted it to. I'm certain they never expected the anticipation to maintain a fever pitch for the six months from the initial announcement to release.

Valve's marketing department did exactly what it was supposed to: It made people aware of the game and built anticipation without overloading us with information. They're being very calculated as they don't want to burn people out before the game is actually released.

Trust me, once they're ready to start shipping, they'll turn it up another notch.

they arnt releasing new vids cause they are in crunch time and they are focusing on releasing the game sept 30th!!!!!

And that's good enough for me....

i'm no longer excited about hl2 as much as i was when i saw the first movie.. but i still think it will be great, and will still buy and play it, i think when they start releasing new media people will get excited again.

even if isnt all that fresh anymore, it still more anticipated then any other game i have seen so far

Personally i don't think the marketing has even begun!

in my opinion.. it would be harder to keep what you are all talking about 'momentum' for an entire month (hypothetically speaking the release date is indeed sept. 30th) where as it seems more logical in my mind, that they announce the game, give you some videos and its known about.

You know how badass its going to be, you've seen videos and then you find out those videos are OLD and the game is indeed still being improved. Now you want to see more videos, but all assuden they aren't talking. Your pissed but who cares no one gives a flying **** that your mad cuase you didn't get a 6th video, wtf you got A video that should have been enough.

now 2 weeks before whatever the release date actually becomes, you'll see advertisement like crazy everywhere, and i mean banners etc. you'll see the team chatting in IRC more and you might see your precious ****ing videos with the benchmark and the SDK.

there marketing plan is right on track. These guys aren't dumb. its VALVE for crying out loud. they CREATED half-life!

i agree with the general mood of this thread. i've lost the fanboy craziness surrounding half-life 2 but still think it will be a great game. actually, i'm now more excited about getting my new computer that i'm buying FOR half-life 2 than getting the actual game.

i'm just worried i'll have to upgrade again for stalker :)

You people need to realize that probably only .005% of the people that will actually buy half life come to these forums. 99.995% of the people will buy the game half-life2 could careless about the videos that you guys accuse valve of being late on. Valve never made a official announcement about anything on there site about it so there you go there is your answer. This forum is not the entire HL2 community which alot of you seem to think it is. This forum is just one of the 100s or 1000s of hl2 sites out there that people post at. You think valve sucks so much why dont you go asking other game developers to interact with you as much as valve has and see what happens.

ya they screwed up on the HL2 media but still they are releasing a ton more stuff on modding.... PCGamer has an interview about modding.. the homepage here has some stuff that helps modelers (siggraph2003 videos)... plus everyone is excited for Steam not becoming a beta in 2 weeks and that is when we will get 3 HL2 movies....

who isn't at this point?:cheese:

Perhaps Valve are really vindictive bastards who troll forums getting a kick out the way people are frothing at the mouth over this. And i agree with dawdler release a benchmark it will staisfy two ends.
1. we'll have something new to sink out teeth into
2. no more "Will my computer run....?" posts

who cares, when it gets close to release, youll see the hype come back, it didnt just vanish, its just in a slump right now :)

i dont care about hl2 anymore. prolly their new screenshots will get me again but not as much as it did before. :/

I'm more hyped about STALKER than I am HL-2. Doom 3 is starting to look better than it did, Call of Duty looks great, and Deus Ex: Invisible War may or may not be as incredible as the original.

just gimme the benchmark and the bink videos of the buggy racing against the flying alien and the city17 strider attack and I have something to chew on for 2 more months.

I believe that HL2 is at the top of everyones list of games to get for me Call of Duty is number 2. All these games are very good and represent a step above last year's games. Some games like CoD is really good even though some of the graphics aren't state of the art. I consider HL still one of the best games out their and when I hear some people talking about how crappy HL1 looks I just want to yell at them that back in 1998 those were very advanced for a FPS.See all these new games are putting too much on graphics like ooooooo look I got a cool engine in which you can see the sweat on the people; this is why HL2 needs to showcase more gameplay because, people (like me) think yes it looks good but will it's gameplay be good. I mean we were moved in 1998 by HL1 because, of it's scripted squences and those memorible events and those were new back then now they are redone sooooo many times, so If HL2 thinks it can just do what HL1 did in terms of scripted sequences it's going to be mistaken. This is why I believe the hype is starting to die down because, of no new information concerning what we want to know like Gameplay changes,MP changes and lots of other things.
