hl2.net giving me virus warnings

I'm using McAffee version 7. It found:

Exploit-lframeBO
Vundo.dldr

I think they came up in the top ad, on an education one.
 
yep same here
using trend micro and it keeps notifying about malicious software
its random but only happens on the forums
my guess is that it is the ads that are causing this
i already spoke to one of the ops in irc but he doesnt seem to believe me for some reason
 
See my thread.... look for bla.exe on the top level of your c drive
 
I really can't see how you could have got this from the site :O
 
Its most likely that you're infected with spyware.
Can't be 100% sure, but fairly reputable companies dont embed .exe's in their ads
 
It came from here all right...reinstalled several times while I was navigating around the forum. Im very carefull about spyware. I run adaware often.
 
That's weird... I have never heard of a website's ads download viruses to your computer, unless you are visiting porn. What I suggest you do is run a few virus scans on your computer. Some great ones that are famous are Spybot S&D, Ad-aware 6.0, and Spysweeper. If that doesn't help, download FireFox 1.0 and install the extension that allows you to manually block ads from websites.
 
I also acquired some spyware from this site earlier today. It wasn't hard trying to figure out where it came from, seeing as halflife2.net was the only site I visited before I noticed something was wrong.

I was a bit skeptical at first thinking that it came from here, but until I saw that others were having the same problem, I'm pretty sure that the bad file came from this site.

I believe that it caused the browser to run slow while navigating HL2.net but I was able to navigate just fine through other sites. The browser viewing HL2.net eventually froze up and shut down on its own.
 
Yeah, this site seems really slow compared to a few days ago. Maybe its the increased traffic, but it might be something else. I have no slowdowns on other sites.
 
Actually, since coming back to this site, all of a sudden my IE has gone to shit, errors left and right now, found SEVERAL trojans, just days before NONE. Found about 7-8 trojans. Munro check those ads, they are bad!
 
There is indeed some sort of virus on here. No idea where it comes from, but McAfee goes nuts every once and a while, and ONLY when I'm browsing this site. Fortunately it's prevented infection, but I don't feel it's a false warning. (And I too suspect an ad).
 
I have up to date NAV and NIS + NAT/SPI routing + Adaware + Spybot S&D and absolutely nothing has been detected out of the ordinary.

Yeah, well I mean, all of a sudden trojans appearing on my computer, and now IE is turning itself into hell(its never in the 5 year time happened this badly, to me at least) I thought I was the only one, but I see others have this issue too, good job munro, you ****ed my pc over :( I shall cry now.
 
I've been meaning to bring this up. One of the ads I saw on this site has a link to cydoor. In case you don't know cydoor, it is a common form of spyware (it is difficult to remove). I would blame the ads for any attacks or problems.
 
I don't get anything like that, but I do get plenty of 'this document contains no data' error messages now...

Oh, and timeouts when connecting to the advertisements too...
 
FireFox still has secuity wholes like IE, all you have to do is move everyone over the FireFox and then that program will be another to throw in the pile with unsuccessful browsers, only TIME before it happens.

Except firefox usually fixes its security holes within a couple of days. Microsoft IE still has around 10 security holes that have been known about for 100 (or more) days. Which one would you pick?

Not to mention that the vast majority of browser exploits will not work with firefox. Worry about the future when it gets there. Firefox is a superior browser right now, compared to IE.
 
I got a trojan from this site yesterday as well. I'll be sure to tell as many people as I possibly can to stay away from this dirty ****ing website. Every HL2 website I visit I've been telling them to stay out of here.

Eh-ahem.Everyone who have stated that they don't get any warnings about virus or such on this site have said that they use Firefox, and now you're talking about how IE has alot more security holes and that all viruses designed to attack browsers are designed for IE.
Catch my drift?
 
I use IE and I'm getting no problems.

Eh-ahem. The only people who are reporting problems are IE users. Not firefox users. I use firefox and have 0 problems.
 
The only thing these ads are is a bunch of JPG/GIF images. The top one is in a small iframe with only the ad-code in it, nothing malicious. Same goes for the big one on the right.

Well I don't know, the ads may be random, so the evil ones may not be the ones I'm seeing right now (gamebiz ones). Meh, no problems for me
 
Hes right! The problem is actually coming from the advertisements embedded in the site.
You are not getting any viruses from this site. Move along citizen.

We're not seeing any evidence that our site is causing any malicious problems for people's computers and until we actually see proof that we are the cause of it and more information about exactly what might have caused it we can not and will not do anything about it.

We don't see a problem, once we do see it we'll sort it out. I'm afraid "Your site is giving us a virus, please fix it" is not enough information for us to go on and solve the issues you're having.
 
Come on now, its not that difficult. Get a box, install win2k, install a virusscanner, and go to hl2.net. Within a handful of page requests the virus warning will pop up.

NAV is far less effective than Mcaffee...i also have mcafee and it goes nuts when i open this site....i used to go to another site that did this and it never did it until i got mcafee....norton doesnt detect shit..trust me......but yea this site def has some sort of virus attatched to it..pry in the ads


oh and if your not seeing it....DOWNLOAD MCAFEE

Or Don't buy Mcafee, and don't see a lot of false alerts! Mcafee is known to "accidentally" produce certain false positives (as is trend micro, and a few others) to things where an exploit COULD be used, even if one is not. Certain Java code can produce this response (even if the code is used in a benign way). This tactic is used by these programs to make people THINK they are more effective at catching viruses, etc, when all they are doing is hilighting a potential vulnerability. It is a marketing tactic. Almost any IT professional will have little to do with Mcafee or Trend Micro products because of this (and other reasons as well). If you think you have spyware, run ad-aware AND spybot, and they will tell you if you have it. If you think you have a virus (even if you have Mcafee installed), go to symantec's site, and run the free online virus scanner -- it does not generate false positives. Ever. Also, for those of you who say you don't want mozilla firebird, don't get it. Those of us that use it need the attention of hackers focused on IE, so they leave us alone, and you folks are providing the attractive fodder for them to exploit.
