Well since mein commandant riomhaire has forbidden any more than 1 post per member in the vote thread I decided to make this thread to provide us with a place to go WTF YOU HAVE NO TASTE IN GAMES at each other.

I'll go first.

Seriously WTF YOU HAVE NO TASTE IN GAMES! Only 1 vote for an x-com game so far?

Nobody told me Lost Vikings has puzzles, I just found out in an article by games radar that it has puzzles. Why didn't anybody tell me it had puzzles, I tell people all the time which game have puzzles.

Well I've never played them, and although I know they are on Steam I just don't have the time necessary to invest in TBS or RTS games as a rule. That's why I never really play them these days.

I realise now that I left out Molyneux games from my list. Oh well.

This is why top ten lists are ass tbh. Because generally you always forget something important when compiling them.

True, but it's to create a top 100. Other people will make up for me forgetting.

I had EP2 and TF2 in my original votes, and then I edited them out in favour of adding two more strategy games :P

Picking only 10 is hard.

I can't do it, I just can't. Plus sequels would take up most of it, once I include all the Half-Life games, the MGS games and the Zelda games there's no room left. Really should've made it favourite game series of all time, then I'd be able to do it.

There is a very simple reason that I limited votes to 10: Less to count.

Well it could be series + individual games that stand out. Especially since you can love a game of a series and not love the series.

It's not a list of every game you love, just choose the 10 you love MOST.

Of course, you could always vote tactically. What's the point voting for a HL game if they're gonna top the list even if you don't, etc.

Riomaire, perhaps it might make sense to draw up some criteria for voting and restart the thread?

For example I'd say Halflife and Halflife 2 are definitely separate games, but I wouldn't distinguish between HL2 and EP1 and EP2 as they are expansions of HL2 when counting votes. However I'm against voting for series as opposed to single titles.

Also I have to say Multi-player games are generally more about the people you play with than the games themselves. Let's perhaps restrict voting to single player experiences?

PC games only. We are clearly all gaming enthusiasts, but the only common format we all share is the PC. There's no point having games in there that a lot of people aren't going to have played.

Just some thoughts on the matter. Top 100 PC Single player experiences seems like a better route to go down.

I agree with Kadayi's thoughts but PC only is a bit restricitive. There's loads of great games on the ps1 and ps2 for example like mgs series, ico, shadow of the colossus, syphon filter etc.

He's right about it being the site's common format though. I've never owned a console, only played with friends' and flatmates'.

What we really should do is make a thread in which you should post as many really good games as you
can remember. Games you would give 9/10 or more. No silly restriction, no silly choosing, just name
everything you really really like.

This guy is on to something!

This is entirely true. I'd put ICO and SoTC down as two great games, but if you divide formats then you run into problems, that is why I'd argue the games should be PC centric. If 80% of the user base here don't have consoles, then voting for SoTC is going to be kind of lost when it comes to counting up the votes. Better to make a 'top 10 Playstation games thread' instead.

ZT voted for two unreleased games, L4D and Far Cry 2.

I put question marks at the end of them because I do not know yet and I do not have beyond 8 favorite games.

So why do you not go suck it fat man.

And whats with the lack of HL2 on HL2.net?

I move that for Day of Defeat and Counter-Strike no distinction is made between the HL and Source versions since they are essentially just upgrades (development of the originals were ceased entirely upon release of their Source versions). And because otherwise I'd have to list all 4 instead of just the two.

HL > HL2

Many of us here became members before the HL2 came out, our interest piqued by the original trailers and the expectation rather than what was actually delivered. There is much that I love about HL2, but in my view it's an inferior experience to the original and although it's still a compelling game I'd put it in my top 20 rather than my top 10 when push comes to shove. Despite all it's flaws STALKER I have found to be a much more compelling gaming experience than HL2 simply because it's delivered the unexpected. When HL came out it broke the mould of the traditional FPS experience (Doom), with HL2 instead of really expanding upon the genre further Valve actually contracted the experience in a lot of ways. They distilled the story driven on rails FPS experience they introduced to the world with HL, and made a very beautiful polished game with HL2, but one that operates within a much more limited palette.

Worth reading on this very subject:-

My question isn't whether or not you like HL more than HL2, they are equals in my eyes. But HL2 is not on many people's lists at all, which is nuts.

I can't believe you are comparing STALKER to HL2, and saying that HL2 did not deliver what was promised, while STALKER is notorious for not delivering what it promised.

It's only nuts because you assume everyone here should be fanatical devotees.

I said nothing about promises, I talked only of expectations, the 2 are entirely different things. STALKER despite it's flaws delivered a raw gaming experience that genuinely challenged me at times, HL1 did the same. I honestly can't say that about HL2 I'm afraid.

Oh come on the only reason someone wouldn't put Half-Life 2 in their top 10 if they're active members of HalfLife2.net is to be nonconformist.

So you're calling me a liar? :dozey:

There was a strong community going on here way before HL2 actually hit the shelves because of the delay. I even wrote an article about HL2 for the site (see my sig) before the game came out. But in all honesty it just doesn't live in my personal top 10, when push comes to shove.

The forum community really has very little to do with the game. I mean, I usually forget there are boards outside the Off-Topic Forums.

And as great as HL2 was, I wouldnt even put it in my top 5. Episode 2... yes, but not hl2.

I still put it in my top 10, but I may even replace it with Kotor. Are we allowed to edit them, or are the lists being counted as they're posted?

No, what I'm calling you is a television actor.

There is nothing sensationalist about it. I explained my position in an earlier post.

Also why exactly should all members of the HL2 community be avid fanatical fans? Do you think Valve are beyond criticism? I could easily write up an article on Valves faults.

That was just a quote from Arrested Development, don't read too much into it.

I just expected in a forum which was formed for the intent of discussing Half-Life 2 that it would appear in the top 10 lists of the active members. I'm by no means saying that Valve are beyond criticism, really don't know why you're bringing that up. Half-Life 2 would be pretty far down my list, I'm not fanatical and I don't expect others here to be. But 10 games is plenty, and I find it a struggle to think of 9 games that are better, and in a community that should at least in theory comprise of Half-Life 2 fans, it's difficult to imagine others could either.

Needs more Morrowind and WAY less Oblivion.

I agree those were good, but I still believe Morrowind is better.

Except Oblivion. That was just a terrible addition to the TES series.. Nowhere near the quality of the others.

Yea Morrowind was a solid game, my gripe is that was when Bethesda started to remove RPG elements from the series.
