Every single time im playing DOD or CS I say "so is everyone ready for half-life 2" and no one knows what im talking about! Ive talked to about 120 people online and about 4 of them know what half-life 2 is????!?!

This is a huge problem and if the original players of half-life dont even know what this game is then, this game will go down in history that "a game that has everything, but no one really knows about" I really think they could of done so much more advertising on TV and posters in stores and such... I havent seen one advertisement .
 
120 people? Lemme jjst say that i think theres about 1000 times more people playing Cs or DoD (well Cs at least) so maybe you just came across a small crowd, or maybe noone felt like answering you :upstare:
 
I got answers from about 120 people thats what I was trying to say..srry. I asked them if they were ready to play it and about 95% of them said "they made a second half-life" ? And I said YEAH !! and they sadi cool..never heard of it ( about 95% of them ) The other 5% said .."Yeah Ive heard of it.."
 
You are just seeing 13,000+ people who know about HL2, right here.:)

And everyone that reads game magazines must know hl2 too... and those are quite a lot.

Um that is not that much consitering the game is "WORLD WIDE" Over 6 Billion people !!!

All my gaming friends dont really care much for hl2 and think it looks interesting..forums like these (no offense) just bring hype and makes you hate the game more, when it didnt exede your expectations.
 
Everyone I know, knows HL2, well everyone that games :)

But CS:S on the other hand, is much less well known.
 
Well this is without a doubt the most reliable and thorough research conducted into the excitement/knowledge people have of Half-Life 2.

Not.

Though it'll take a momentous game to pull the hordes of people away from CS. Every single new game that has come out people have lauded it as the CS killer. MOHAA, RTCW, SOF2, UT2003, BF1942, BF:V, Far Cry, CoD, ET, UT2K4. Yeah you get the gist. CS still kills them all in terms of player numbers.
 
That's weird, coz when I'm playing CS, I sometimes ask: "Will u guys buy HL2?". And some say "Yeah, of course" and some say "If it's ever gonna be released" and some "No" and some don't answer, but I've never got an answer which say that they never heard of HL2.
 
everyone knows what hl2 is... if they don't. That is just sad. And they probably use AOL connection judging by their newbness....
 
I know most CS players are between the age of 5 - 15 but im pretty sure they know what half life is, i mean afterall they wouldnt be playing CS without half life which you have to go and and specifically buy from the shop.
 
Forums and gamesite people only represent a fraction of people who actually buy games.

More people just buy a game, then come home and install it and play it. As time goes on more people who buy games also get involved in the community that goes with it, clans, forums game sites etc. But most people just play, they dont know all the rest of it.
 
I asked the same question. "wow u got the beta? omgosh" yeah it owns "where do you get it? " lol show'em where it is. Then its jee I havn't checked the message boards in a long time or. Cs is free and hl2 is not so lol. ;)
 
A person who is kinda up to date about new games have heard enough about HL2, trust me, they heard enough about it :p In holland you see some games sites, A game normally gets like 20 replies. But news about HL2 comes with 200 replies..

Exactly. I think sometimes we forget how tiny a % forums and gamesites and even online gaming make up the gaming world.

What did HL1 sell? With all it's mods and addons it's done over 8 million units sold since 1998. Only a very very tiny % of that play online or go to gamesites. Yet 8 MILLION were sold.

I don't think anyone needs to worry about what HL2 will do or how popular it will be. Most people who played HL1 loved it so you can probably expect to see numbers similar to HL1 over the next 5 years.

Unless it sucks, of course ;)

Believe me, there are some people who'll know what cs is - but not what HL is.
 
Well, there's even articles on it here in the local TV guide, so I doubt it has any problem with coverage...
 
THE TV GUIDE ..are you serious as advertisemnet your joking..who in the hell looks in there come on if your going to pay lots of money to put out a game ..we dont LOOK AT TV GUIDES !!!!

It wouldnt suprise me at all to know that a large majority of cs players dont know that cs was at one time, a mod born from halflife before it went retail. Not only would this NOT suprise me, but it would make me happy to know I don't have to put up with l33t speak on a hl2 server.
 
^^^ahh yes but those 16 year olds of CS beta are now the 20 year olds running the boards.

Coverage, dude. That's what I said. Coverage. Don't you capitalise at me. And it was in our TV guide's rather well-done little gaming section. Not as a single, out-of-place article. Point was, if it's even turning up in the local TV guide, imagine how widespread the coverage must be...

Dude, I'd say you hit a bunch of people who aren't really that interested in mainstream gaming, or something like that. Possibly they're people with older computers who play CS and don't keep up with modern gaming. I certainly know that I can mention HL2 to a gamer here and they'll go "Yeah! That game is gonna ROCK!" or, occasionally, "Ahh, Doom 3 will be better, I reckon...". I've never got "There's a HL2?" from anyone.

Having said that, I reckon most people who play/buy games get them because they see them on a shelf, or happen to hear about them from someone else, not because they read a review/preview somewhere and then spend a year waiting for it... that's only the hardcore gamers that do that, heh.

HL2 has enough coverage. I almost feel as though I hear too much about it at times...

Oh, and I certainly read the TV guide...
 
They're CS players..I doubt they can read :S
 
Um.. all those people lied. You know how many times I catch people ingame talking about HL2, and then others join in the converstation pretending they don't know what HL2 is? It's is apparent with the silly replies they give that make it quite obvious that they are pulling peoples legs.

Also, your forgetting that you do not need to buy Half-Life and have played it in order to play CS or DOD. They come stand alone now. So it is prefectly reasonable to say they have not even heard of HL 1.

It's intentional. SM said there was a 10 min window a couple of days ago when avatars wouldn't upload properly, and I have the end result..I could fix it now, but then never again would I see my beloved error sign :p

Try looking at it in FireFox and IE..
 
I think it's sad that some people are so focused on this game, they can't understand that this game probably has zero importance to the vast majority of people in this world. In fact I don't know one single person "in real life" that knows about this game. Why? Because they don't live and die video games and this nonsense isn't important to them.

I know alot of people in real life that are not hard core gamers, yet know all about HL2.
