HL2 not so hot....

Well it may not be important to you fishlore because your not a gamer, however most of us are

I know lots of gamers, all of them know about HL2, but don't know much about it :D Lots of my friends who aren't gamers know about it too.

Have you ever actually talked to someone?
Yup. Many people in fact.

You'd be surprised, if you actually spent a few hours away from your parent's computer you might actually meet people that don't play video games too. They're kind of like you are, except they're in shape. One day when you start your career you'll find yourself surrounded by people that couldn't care less about video games.

I'm sure that every relationship in your life involves a HL2 fan. Luckily that's not the case with me. In fact of all my friends only one plays games aside from console Madden. You might call that sorry, sad or pathetic. But the funny thing is, that's exactly what they think of you.

Lol, in shape :p

I'm an active part of my community, I do volunteer work with underprivileged children, I'm a lifeguard, I work part time as a Chef's assistant, I have played soccer for the last 9 years of my life (3 hour practices 4 times a night, and none of that is with the ball, its all uphill running) I work out daily at my local pool (for free, having worked there I get certain benefits :p).

I don't know where you are from, but people in my life certainly don't jump to prejudiced conclusions as you have. I am very likable, I have many RL friends, and although I do very much like games, They don't control my life.

Guess Six Three just threw your theory outta the water Fishlore!

Every single time im playing DOD or CS I say "so is everyone ready for half-life 2" and no one knows what im talking about! Ive talked to about 120 people online and about 4 of them know what half-life 2 is????!?!

This is a huge problem and if the original players of half-life dont even know what this game is then, this game will go down in history that "a game that has everything, but no one really knows about" I really think they could of done so much more advertising on TV and posters in stores and such... I havent seen one advertisement .

I agree with ya, It happend to MAXPAYNE1. Everytime I speak about MP1 with my m8s at college or any other place back 3 years ago (NOTE: They are real hardcore gamers) they don't know what I am talking about. MP1 started showing on tv, mags, newspaper, and they went omg there is a cool game coming out in few days. Well here is my point, its true that there is alot of gamers don't know about HL2 but the only way to get their attention is by advertising just like maxpayne1. :smoking: yep

Its just hard for me to imagine someone, whos a hardcore gamer, missing one of the biggest PC game ever

It's not released yet, so there's nothing missed yet either.

Watch, once it is released there will be an explosion. Everyone will know about it, and we will be too buzy playing the game to even care.

so do you guys think valve will launch an advertisment campaign closer to release to raise awareness? i personally dont think they need to, although it wouldnt hurt. id like to see some more ads pop up, but i think with the longevity of the half-life franchise they dont need to rely on a large amount of units sold initially before the next big game comes out. it seems to me that half-life 2 will be competitive gaming wise and sales wise for quite some time.

So you talked to your friends about someone you argued with online? Fun!

And Fishlore, people who don't play games aren't pathetic, it's people who are prejudiced and closeminded about games (or anything else for that matter) that are pathetic. Since when are games for fat nerds and socially retarded geeks only? I think we passed that stage long ago. Crawl from whatever rock you've been under and see games are bigger than ever and are as normal as any form of entertainment.

No wait, skip that, just crawl back under that rock and we're all happy.

neway...

Whenever I ask people in a game online about anything to do with HL2 I usually get one or if I am lucky two people saying: "That game is sweet!" or "I wish I had a computer to run that game".

... but then. I get about 8 people saying: "That game sucks" or "I aint waiting for that game any longer" or "Valve sucks!!!" (I usually say: "Your playing a VALVE game..... :p)

I dont understand why people can hate a game soo much. Especially when it is soo damn good! :rolling:

I think it's sad that some people are so focused on this game, they can't understand that this game probably has zero importance to the vast majority of people in this world. In fact I don't know one single person "in real life" that knows about this game. Why? Because they don't live and die video games and this nonsense isn't important to them.
Yet shopping for clothes, cars, crap, paying insurance, watching survivor 17, sitting at a pub drinking premature-urine and talking about their new diet is important.

Everyone's different. Please respect that you narrow minded bigot.

I have friends who you would never ever think would know anything about games EVER!

Yet... they have heard of HL2 and own clasics such as age of empires 1...

Games are a perfectly acceptable form of entertainment. :)

If HL2 isn't known well, then no game is (excluding Sims and the rest of the crap that really needs advertising).

That's exactly right! And as time passes they'll become even more mainstream and accepted by society. Seeing all those reports on CNN.com about HL2 was evidence of computer games evolving and growing.

Not long ago anyone who even used the internet was branded a nerd and pathetic. Now if you call someone a nerd for using the net you risk insulting a huge percentage of people. The internet has planted itself in everyday society.

I just have one question to Fishlore. Why are you here? Judging by your actions over the last few weeks the only thing i see you do is make snide remarks about people who are looking forward to the game.

fishlore not to sound repetative but you're an idiot

Strangely enough, I have to say I have come across this, also.

When I am playing CS I have sometimes asked "is everyone looking forward to Half-Life 2?"

And I mostly get: "Half-Life 2, what's that?"

Shocking :/

Omg I just saw this, McROOOOFLES!!!!

Even if what you said happened to be true, which it isn't, making such a prize prat out of yourself as you have just done above makes you the saddest little protoctist ever to revel and frolic in it's own scum encrusted grime under it's favourite rock.

Your only hope is that you don't act like that in real life, otherwise enjoy a life of being hated and pitied by all the people who actually constitute human beings :)

But that's the same people who say; Half-life? I thought that was a Counter-Strike mod?

That was some excelent insulting there I have to admit. :p

My dad knows about this bloody game.

and he considers Quake 2 the pinnacle of FPS goodness.

christ my xbox whore cousins know the game.

Couldn't it be that those who play CS are just freaking PULLING YOUR LEGS? :E How can anyone be so ignorant about games (when they play them themselves)?

For fishlore:

most people have a kind of obsession in their lives - some know everything about cars, some are into sport, some in music, movies or some other form of art and some of us are into games. And what's wrong with that? Are you anything better than us, oh bringer of the great truth?

To add a bit more: But games are from all these obsessions different in one thing. They are a parallel universe in which people get easily lost. Vehicles are not parallel world, they are part of the first reality we live in. The same goes for all other obsessions of this world. Games are also a part of the first reality, but to a certain point - until you start playing it.

not alot of people talk in cs unless spoken to directly, this applies with alot of online games, and people just think ur a bit of a dilso when ur trying to make a convosation.

hl2 has been on the news (bbc, cnn etc..) thousands if not millions know about the game and its not even released.

Interesting factoid:

Each year since 2002, video games made more money than the entire movie industry AND the entire music industry. If, say, Activision wanted to buy, say, Columbia Records, it would happen.

Maybe they have indeed been living under a rock for the last couple of years!

I know most CS players are between the age of 5 - 15 but im pretty sure they know what half life is, i mean afterall they wouldnt be playing CS without half life which you have to go and and specifically buy from the shop.

CS is a retail product. so many haven't even gone through hl to get cs.

Sorry, are you saying that HL2 hasn't gotten enough hype?

they could advertise to CSers by making patch for CS, putting things like movie posters along the wall in levels that advertise hl2.

i understand what u mean...but i also understand that not all pple who play CS went out and bought HL1.. and maybe some still did go out and buy HL1.. but their main focus was on playing TFC, CS or DOD.

i think when CS went retail that brought in so many more players who didn't know a thing about HL1 and mainly just play online.. case in point: some pple i used to play CS with about 1 year ago.. they have never played HL1 SP and aren't too interested in SP at all.. however they are excited about HL2.. (im guessing for the MP aspect of it) and will purchase their copy.. i imagine there are ALOT more pple similar to these friends of mine.

Well i have told all my friends and they are happy the make another one and they where also shocked about the good grapics
