Hi,

If HL2 is supposed to be available for retail purchase on the 30th of September (1 week from now) then it must already be shipping to different stores and retail outlets?

It hasnt even gone gold, how can it be scheduled for 30th Sept then???

Yapa

we will see , if we dont get any big news today or tomarrow then we are screwed.

It's gonna be very busy on the HL2 websites & forums like this today.. Everybody checking for 'gold' news.. ;)

noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo gabe tell us now what is fact!!!

I beleive its already gone gold.

And we are expecting hl2 (encrypted) available on steam for dl tomorrow.

hl2...WAS CANCELLED?!?!? NOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

ow, that would be the worst joke of all time. im betting valve and the offices would be burned down in a record 5 seconds after THAT was announced.

Hmmz, nobody knows how long it will really take to make all those boxes and distribute them properly around the world. I think it even depends on the distributing company (IE: how many factories they have) so maybe we should only try to guess out of examples from earlier VU gold - to launch dates.

I don't recall Valve stating that it would be available in stores on the 30th - only that it would be "available". My guess is that you'll be able to purchase it via Steam on the 30th, and it will be in stores within a week or so of that date.

Do you read anything?!? ffs.

Steam and retail will be available at the same time.

My personal theory is that the game has already gone gold and that Valve is just waiting until the duplicators have reached critical mass sufficient to fulfill all preorders and retail store stock before making a formal announcement.

I could be and probably am dead wrong, but it's a fun theory no the less.

the point of going gold is to tell the public that the game is Done! after that, they wil send it off to be pressed, and shippped.

Thats not really true. I mean, they can have it all pressed, boxed and ready to be shipped, and then announce it has gone gold like 3 days before its release.

Possibly, but nobody said they have to announce it the very same day it actually does go gold. The game could conceivably go gold and Valve could hold off on the gold announcement until they're absolutely sure they can actually hit the target date. "But this isn't how other developers do it!" I can hear you say. True. But other developers also like to announce games years before they even have a chance of being available. Everything Valve has done up to this point has been atypical of how most developers behave.

I think it's already gone gold. GN said he'd tell us. He didn't say he'd tell us ont he DAY it went gold did he? :p

we are waiting for the game only since the last E3 !! So please guys shut up and be happy that you don´t have too wait for years like (DukeNukemForever)

so true...

maybe they want to make it exactly 5 years after HL1. Half Life was released 10/31/98.... so maybe we will have to wait 'till 10/31/03?

OMG I hope from the bottom of my heart that HL2 will be released at 9/30 . The Golden Date.

WTFOMG!!!1!

We'll see who's right on Tuesday, ****stick ;)

[edit]
BTW, please link to where Gabe (or any Valve employee) said the retail version would be available the at the same time as the Steam version?

You made a HUGE assumption when you flamed me. To the best of my knowledge, Valve has only stated that "Half-Life 2 will be released Tuesday, September 30th". They've said nothing as to the specifics of the medium, etc. I admit it's possible I've missed something, so if I have, LINK ME TO IT.[/edit]

I think it is stated in the Info from Valve thread (I know I remember seeing that too.) happy reading finding it, 'cos I certainly can't be arsed :p

When people use the term "shipping" on these forums, I think a lot of them picture a whole fleet of one-man rowing boats full to the brim with copies of HL2, each one paddled all over the world by some under-nourished slave-child.
It really isn't that slow, people.
