Halo 2 have ads and stuff all over the place why didnt HL2 do anything, I havnt seen one ad for it.

Because halo 2 is such a shitty game that they need adds to make it sell. HL2 will sell without adds.

Cause you idiot, advertising costs millions of dollars. Word of mouth is free. I would rather spend those millions of dollars on beta testers and development of the game. Have you not noticed that lots and lots of people are complaining about the new halo game and how its not what it was supposed to be. HAHAHAHAH. Maybe they should of spent less money on advertisment and hired die hard players and payed them for their input in the game.

Console gamers have numbers that are > pcgamers.

I don't think hl2 will top halo 2's first day sales because HL2 has been selling for months ;D.

glad i don't own an xbox, i can't afford both games...academically or fiscally

Doom III sold 350k in the first month, so I don't think HL2 will do much better.

That's scary, Halo 2 sold $100 million the first day.

Microsoft can afford huge amounts of marketing, Vivendi cannot (besides the countless banner ads I've seen, heh).

So many threads on this subject , it doesnt matter , they have a big enough fan base anyway , + people that just walk into a game store and see it. it just doesnt matter, who cares

Uh game sold 2.4 million copies, $100 million is how much it made from these sales.

If you still wondering why so many developers switch to console, there is your answer on top. Too bad only true gems will sell like that.

2.4 million copies the first day.

translation.........125 million in one....friggin day.

regardless of Halo 2's content, that is a world breaking record for any for of entertainment.....

I think the initial thread starter just doesnt wanna see Hl2 go down to Halo, regardless of population..Hl2 could take on Halo1 and 2, farcry, doom 3 and the future doom 3 expansion, all without breaking a sweat. (Note, that right there is what we call, OVERHYPE)

who knows, either way, its gonna be a great game\

No.

Anyway, I played Halo2 today and its a pile of shit.

they have already torn down halo2. it's a miserable failure according to some of these people. bungie screwed up, that's why they only got $100 million in sales the first day

While HALO 2 may have sold x amount of units right now, Half Life 2 is going to win in the long run. Anyone who thinks otherwise is dreaming. HALO 2 just can't compete with the Half Life modding community. The original Half Life and it's sequels sold a total of over 8 million copies over the last 6 years. I can only imagine Half Life 2 and it's sequels will surpass that, easily.

Slow and steady wins the race. :)

again that $125 million halo2 made the first day was all based on the assumption that halo2 would be great not on the fact that it is great, that alone doesnt mean its good

that maybe true but what is also true is that halo2 was overhyped as hell. everyone thought it would be the god of video games. i haven't played halo2 yet, but when i do, i'm SURE it will be fun. a lot of complaints i hear about halo2 is that it is a lot like halo1........ isn't that a good thing? and it's a small minority of halo2 players that say it sucks, majority think it's great. just c uz a few people said halo2 sucked, doesn't mean it actually sucks. people just like to complain. mark my words, when hl2 comes out, there will be PLENTY of people who say hl2 sucks and it didn't live up to their expectations.

Keep in mind that Halo2's marketing budget is estimated to be higher than the development budget! At least with Valve, the money's all gone in the right place - the game.

Console gamers are far less likely to use the internet to get their gaming news. So advertising needs to be done to let them know.

nevermind Halo2, even Doom3 got more advertising than HL2 is currently getting.. i remember the week before Doom3 was released, FutureShop was constantly running their adverts for it...

i am sorta disappointed in that theres almost no advertising so far for HL2...really, the HL series deserves more attention than its really getting.

Here's my theory on the lack of advertising: We all know that Steam orders are available now (with CS:S as an incentive), but retail copies won't be available until release date (and there's no incentive to pre-order, no early CS:S). Since Vivendi (the publisher, who would take charge of marketing the game) make money from store purchases, but not steam purchases, they have no incentive to advertise the game now. If they advertised now, the result would probably be more Steam orders (because it's available NOW, with CS:S playable) rather than retail orders, which reduces potential retail sales, making that advertising a waste of money for Vivendi. That's why I believe Vivendi will start marketing heavily after release, once the game is available in stores, when they have more chance of making sales. So basically, they won't be trying to get X amount on day 1, they'll be looking for high numbers of sales over a longer period of time, after release day.

That's my theory, anyway, seems pretty likely.

The game may not be anything new, but it is far from a pile of shit, so stop making comments like this, because you'r being a serious fanboy. Halo2 is a solid game (just beat it today), and was really fun, just because it isn't HL2 doesn't mean it sucks.

yeh Halo 2 is great fun, some good ideas and execution went into it. Multiplayer is kick ass fun :D

so what if its as commercial as the town Hoe,

HL2 definately looks way more indepth and way cooler, we all know that, Its a PC GAME!

grow up the lot of u, my apologies to those whose balls havnt dropped yet

Don't get confused, the quality of H2 did not make it sell.

I hope that when they do selling analysis on HL2, that they include steam sales aswell.

Ill bet my 3rd mutant nut that HL2 will not sell nearly as many copys retail compared to halo 2, but will completly eclypse it if you included steam sales.

There's no way in hell that Hl2 will beat halo 2's first day sales... but like somebody above said, hl2 will surpass it in the long run. After this holiday season, halo 2 sales will drop dramatically and even though it will continually sell, the sales 6 months from now on it will be basically minimal. HL2 on the other hand I'm will to bet will be one of the top 10-15 selling pc games for at least the next year, and very likely well beyond that.

A Gamespot article quoted that about 2million copies of HL2 have been preloaded - add to that the number of copies that will be bought in stores and you are getting pretty close to $100 million.

Preload, not preorder.

You idiots won't stop until you've completely torn HL 2 down, will ya?

Fixed it for you.

HL2 will own h2... #1 its a PC game and consoles never really give a good game expieriance... #2 the graphics blow halo right out of the water and #3 the ability to mod the game!

now for my version!

Halo2 is the weakest crap... HL2 is guna @#$rape it with no problems :sniper:

Halo 2 is fun, and the way they've set up the multiplayer aspects of it on xbox live is pretty impressive... but when it comes to just the actual game itself in gameplay and whatnot, it's really nothing special. If there were no such thing as pc first-person shooters, then maybe you could call halo 2 revolutionary and such, but there's nothing on there that hadn't been done just as well on the pc. Half-life 2, on the other hand, looks like something really special.

I can't wait.

Every 15 mins I see a Haloe 2 commercial on TV. I'd love to see the same for HL²... you know
