HL2 Single Player gonna suck?

TBH, I didn't find the DoomIII alpha very scary. I downloaded hoping that I would be so terrified I wouldn't be able to sleep. The way people talked about it made it seem like the most scary thing ever. But honestly, System Shock 2 makes D3 seem like the Disney Channel. D3 can give me a few chills when the lights are off at 2 AM if I'm chanting to myself "Zombies are real, Zombies are real..." but that's about it. I have to deliberately get myself worked up to be afraid of it.

A product is equal to the sum of it's parts. Therefore, if part of it sucks, than it partially sucks.

DOOM3 ALHPA ain't shit, I had it and I played it its simply 10* out of 10*. but it had many problems.

topic:
HL2 single player will be around 37-150 hours of gameplay so tell me guys how will this going to suk, just give me a reason why its going to suk?

There are always possibilities, G0rgon. There are always possibilities.

Chode,

The only possibility is the HYPE.

You over Hype something, you just kill the real picture of that thing. e.g THE MATRIX RELOADED every dam fan on earch was over hyped and was expecting something else....etc. but the real MR was dissapointed because it turnd out to be something boring.

HYPE. is the keyword

The logic here eludes me.

Yeah, I love the "10/10 but there are many problems" argument as well...

Way to sit on the fence, G0rgon!

ok I meant you need to enter and ammend many codes, commands and create many folders for the booting files,.....etc. that is the problems and if you are luky it won't crash near the red wall, (too much processing power needed in this part).

Dunno what D3 alpha you DLed.. but that's not what everyone else had to do, last I checked

Mind telling me where you got that figure? Even Final Fantasy games aren't 150 hours.. 150 hours is a ridiculous figure, no FPS will ever be that long (atleast not HL2), unless it's packed full of TONS of goodies

Just a quick resume for those who says : "There is possibilities it might sucks".

First, why would it sucks : Valve trying to get it out unfinished because of the hackers and/or Valve just lost the touch, which I think is not really plausible. Now let's look at why it could rock, cuz you know, THERE ARE ALSO POSSIBLITIES IT WILL ROCK !

Think about a whole new engine made by those who brought one of the finest game ever, now doing it with money and talent. People who are aiming for the fans, not for themselves. I think the chances are more on IT ROCKS possibility than IT SUCKS possibility.

And for those who says : "They just wanna sell their engine !" Think again. Valve lives for the players. Why would they care so much about fans, modders and stuff if they just want to make money out of their engine ? Why do they think about doing a fantastic game just to sell an engine ? Even why planning a Half-Life 3 if they just wanna market an engine ? (for info on HL3 check the Valve info thread).

Sure, D3 might surpass HL2, possibilities are everywhere....but think about it... (whatever ID did in the pass that matched HL 1 ??)

Think about that..... :bounce:

I've been playing Final Fantasy X for 150 hours. Maxing out the character stats is a bitch :p

But I beleive Gabe Newell said it would take around 2-4 hours for each chapter, and there are 12 of them. So that's around 36-38 hours long for the average gamer (i.e. passive gamer).

From Gabe :

With HL1 when we actually talked to people the amount of time it took them to play varied emormously with their skill level. But it should be a similar length with HL2. We're reorganized the chapter structure a little bit so that there are actually fewer chapters than there were in HL1, but the actual amount of game experience should be comprable to HL1. When we sat down and watched people play, : they were getting around 40 to 50 hours for a typical core gameplayer that's what we're going to see with HL2.

***********************************************

Yeah, so 150 hours might be exagerated..... But I know I won'T play it only once at Normal and put it away....so 75-80 hours for going twice thru it is good...

Well, okay, FF games CAN take that long depending on how thorough you are, but generally for most people (not me, though, I love to get every last item in the game that's worth getting, and explore every last area, I also have a habbit of trying to open over drawer/etc in RPGs) it wouldn't take that long (took my brother maybe 60 hours to beat FFX, I've never played it)

36-38 hours, eh? That means HL2 will take me 60 hours! I love to explore every last little area, I played through MP2 and tried to open every door in the game.. lol

150 hours makes sense for some people. I know this kid Jeung who blows at FPS's. Whenever there's more than one enemy on screen it's like he goes into epileptic fits. Last I checked he still hadn't beaten HL1, even though he used to play it all the time. That's the type of kid that could turn an 8 hour game into a 150 hour one.

MP2 is taking me a while too. I like to stop and watch all the stupid TV shows. Dick Justice is hilarious, 'I'm just a mean mofo spittin' out metiphors in the ghetto!'.

YEah...tell me who's not gonna take that buggy and explore everywhere b4 going where he needs to go....Or just trying to turn it over by going fast and skitting on a side....and remind you..that'S just the buggy...

In the amount time it took me to beat FFX... I had just gotten to the end of the first CD of FFVII.

Is it just me or do games seem to be getting shorter?

If you take Splinter Cell as an example that was fast.
If you take game like Dungeon Siege (SP) or anyhting like that I think it's long enough. But games are very different one from the other.
I hate paying 70$ for a games that's gonna be over in 2 weeks though.

Yeah, I agree, games ARE getting shorter, or so it seems. FFVII was great, took me easily 90 hours to beat (I think.. might've been a little shorter than that), of course I went through and got every last item.. too bad when you do that, the boss of the game is always way too easy to beat (My brother didn't spend a long time on FFX, and he killed the boss of the game in one hit with Auron.. 99,999 damage, was a sad sight)

I think DS took me around 50 hours to beat, that game was/is alot of fun, but playing online gets annoying after a few days of constant playing, but it's always fun to start a new character after not playing for a month or so

Games are getting shorter (with the exception of some like HL2, where the sequel is seemingly longer), but they are often better for it. It becomes much more of an exerience when it isn't broken up by a lot of filler material. Obviously that doesn't mean that they should make all games shorter, but I do find that I'll play a game thats on the short side several times through, instead of the normal once.
So there are ups and downs.
