lol its looks like a p90 with a scope connected to a platform

Some people need a girlfriend to tell them to stop wasting their time on useless endevours.

Why is this useless?

I think that so long as you're doing something for yourself, you're not wasting your time. When you start doing things for other people, then you're wasting your time.

So this guy didn't waste his time at all. He had fun and increased his body of information, all at the same time.

Having fun learning :)

I want to make one, and then put it in my garage, situated to my garage door. I have a friend who knows the passcode for my garage door, so he just comes in whenever the hell he feels like it. That'd teach him :E

p90 as mounted machinegun? ok that just doesnt look so scary.

What are you talking about! That's the answer to all your home security needs! A fuc*ing burgular breaks in and boom! He's gonna be mighty sorry.

That's the idea.

The robber sees the thing, it goes "FREEZE OR BE NEUTRALIZED".

Robber goes "Pfft. Wtf is that piece of shit?" continues on his way.

Turret sees his movement, BLAM BLAM BLAM!

No that'll just lead to unwanted deaths and lawsuits to a guy who lost his keys or walked in the wrong way. I like his idea for the thing scaring away bratty kids on his lawn or teaching the cat to stop jumping on the couch.

I wonder if his algorithm can lead the turrets shots?

How is this a waste of time? Look at all the stuff he learned.

I don't understand how they were able to make the gun automatically point at targets....

Algorithms my friend.

VERY complex algorithms.

And um, did they control the gun with a desktop computer?

Yeah.

He wrote the program in C++ and some other languages, then dragged his desktop pc out to the turret, hooked them up, and watched his algorithm work its magic.

So he hooked up a pc to a motor and a camera after writing a very complicated algorithm?

I wish i could do that......

A web cam was involved too.

I'm guessing that he wrote a program that analyzed each instance that the web cam captured, then decided whether or not to fire on the user.

that's a pretty naive thing to say. as this guy has noted (and i can note from my previous military experience), *real* sentry guns don't exist. the military doesn't have them, no civilian contractor makes them -- his design is unique.

and it incorporates a lot of the necessary safety and audit protocols that would be needed for the military to ever consider such a device for production.

rather than useless, i think this guy just found his career for the next 30 years -- and a very lucrative job with whichever defense agency decides to pick up his design (so long as he's not a dumbass and forgets to patent it)

Quoted for truth.

WOW! But did they test it for real?? I mean, with bullets, did the thing hit the testobject??

They built it using an airsoft gun, and yes, it did hit the target.

it was an airsoft gun and yes there are videos of his brother being shot

Yeah, watch the video. It's cool seeing the turret move around, track, and then open fire.

Watched the video, awsome thing! Would have been übercool to have the skills to make one...
