It seems like there is no boundry anymore, kids think that they can swear, cuss and be obnouxious all they want these days. No, im not here to tell you guys that ALL kids these days are like this, im just saying that times have changed. For the worse.

Maybe we should stop letting the Tv set raise our kids??? Maybe its time for some actual parenting...

Yep. Most kids younger than, eh, 17, older than.. 12.. seem to be really really annoying these days.
Great, you can swear, now, does anyone WANT to hear you swear? No? Didn't think so.

I know this 9 year old.. he swears and is highly obnoxious.

It's not the media that harms the kids, it's the lazy parents that don't take action.
Most parents just dump their kids behind the tv or pc while they're both going off to work for the whole day. No wonder the tv is a more important teacher than the parents.

i think it's the idea of "we're pre-teenagers! we can rebel and all thst S***!! my parents are teh worthless! i wish i was dead cause i don't like math and my life suxx0r!" that gets put into their head by certain music and other people who already have this idea...

and the parents then think nothing is wrong that they are "just teens, now" or "it's a phase"... ya... get them to say that after they shoot sum people up or hang themselves

yeah when im a paretn im going to take my shovel from DoD and beat him or her with it. and im going to yell "JOO g07 ROXXOR3D" then ill tel them that im the butch and their the bitch and they have to listen to everything i tell them.

I've honestly never heard a kid swear, in front of adults anyway.

it's actually kinda funny how adults say kids are all messed up and stuff. psychologically, kids/teens are pretty healthy. only about 5-10% have any psychological problems. what the REAL problem is is the attitudes they exhibit. and what's even funnier is that parents say that kids are messed up, well it's the damned baby boomer parents that are sh*tty at raising their kids. i don't think the media could have too much of an effect on the kids if the parents had an open dialogue with their children and explained things to them a bit.

Even the bullies of the 30s would seem like angles theses days

You know what I hate? I hate it when parents say anything starting with "kids these days...," all that means is that you, the parents, have done a shitty job raising your children. Anytime a parent says that, they are admitting that they did a piss poor job in some aspect of their child's life. Children have not changed in any way, but parenting has. Don't get me wrong, I think parents should change and evolve their techniques with time. But to do away with disciplining completely, or let your children have the oh-so-holy television set as a replacement for yourself, well those are the causes of any problem with "kid's these days."

when a beautiful girl doesnt like herself because she see's models in magazines and TV, then the media has WAY too much control over our lives...

this is where proper parenting would come into play. teaching the children from an early age that looks are relatively meaningless, and should have no bearing on a person's sense of worth. low selfesteem from "looks" or whatever actually comes from deeper seeded problems.

and qckbeam, i totally agree.

Hmm...yeah...well...I'll just go stand over there and be quiet, shall I?
/me stands over there and is quiet.

well see, this wouldn't be an issue though, if the parents had that open dialogue with the children from a young age. but with these modern parents, they become these monsterous neurotic tyrannical people. what parents need to realize is that to be a parent requires infinite patience. none of this would ever be an issue if the parents would do their job and facilitate the spiritual growth of the child. this is something that is not understood very well in the world. the purpose of the parent, from the view of the child is to teach about the world, and support the child's curiosity and development as a spiritual being. lots of parents, i've noticed(mainly in the past 3 or 4 years) see their children as something to control and mold in the image of the parent. this is utter crap, and precisely what leads to the schism between parent and child.

edit: WWOOOO i'm a manhack!
/me looks for the secret forums that open up for me

damn i'm not special enough yet :(

Media is affecting kids so far as fashion & musical tastes are concerned I think, which is why you get so many wearing clothes that are branded rather than something they like listening to britney & justin.

I think kids should be given the opportunity to express their own likes & dislikes without the stigma of media sayin "this is hip and this is cool and this will make you popular"

Blah!

dont blame anything other than parents.

its there job to help there children interpret everything they experiance.

We should blame the scientists for creating such faulty cloning machines...

Ops...told you too much...

kids at my elementary school said all kinds of bad words. that was in 4th and 5th grade. in fact, that's where i learned a lot of nasty junk.... i guess they learned it from media or older kids; can't really think of anywhere else they'd learn stuff like that.

I was strange. When I lived in a little mining town in WA, none of the kids there swore, even though the town had some of the most foul-mouthed adults I've ever heard.

The I move to Melbourne, Victoria, where the parents try to refrain from swearing, and suddenly all the kids are the potty-mouths.

However, I did notice that the parents in my old home town seemed to have more time for their kids than the city parents I meet over here...

Hmmm. I think that "society is going to hell" has been a phrase that has been around for ages. I'm sure this was discussed when Elvis danced on tv, but society didn't go to hell. Only time will tell.
I have only relized how stupid tv is when I smoke pot (hardly ever, and I think it HAS to be bad for you in some way) but I see how cheezy and how they want you to think. "Buy our absolutly FREE set of 6 CD's from our warehouse. Cd's that no family can live without. Such as the Home Depot home improvement cd, the build your dream house and walk thorugh it in a 3d walkthrough!" God I just can't stand it. *Eli cancels his tv cable service and updates his Internet connection to 1.5mb/s* Yes, I also believe strongly in Emerson's (or his "apprentice" , the one who lived in the woods) anywho, they said "I have not heard one piece of news that would ever be worth hearing." Extremely true in my opnion. Once you've heard one murder, you've heard them all. I also think that the media stirs up an excess amount of fear in peoples lives. Many people own guns in their homes and alot of their responces are, "we use the gun for home security" but in fact, they have never had a break in. Wierd world we live in...

I blame it on scummy people who teach their kiddies to be scummy and the scummy kids kick other kids and they become scum, its like a disease i tell u.
/me goes insane

I'v had phycological problems and so have alot of my friends, don't pull statistics out of your ass. It's no excuse for some kids attitudes though.

I hate Kids, especially the ones who hide there faces with hoods and where there socks over there trousers (pants) even in the middle of Summer so they look more intimidateing. I hate the young adults who do it even more.

Just cos uve had Phycological problems doesnt mean everyone has :\

How badly is media affecting kids? Haha, it's the parents that need to raise their kids probably! I've seen violent movies ever since I was a kid and they haven't affected me what so ever! It all depends on your parents.

I wasn't suggesting that everyone has had phycological problems, but I do know alot of people who came out of my school and similiar ones had suffered from some form of phycological illnes at one point or another.

I said most.. lol, you don't fall into that category. Actually, when I posted that, I thought "ray_MAN is 13.. he's definitely not immature"

I was generalizing, kids are immature these days. I can rarely find a kid who doesn't swear, talk about lude things, or act like a moron. Again, you're of the exception, I'm in no way saying 13 year olds can't be mature, but, sadly, I'm not seeing it lately
