What will vivendi find in the game that valve already hasnt and corrected, as far as bugs go. Valve knows that game inside and out, i really doubt anything would slip in. i predict they get it right the first time. thoughts?

That makes sense to me. Valve did a huge bug testing process.

And that means we get HL2 soon!
:)

i would be downright shocked if the first RC isnt accepted.

If there are any HUGE bugs, it may be rejected. I doubt that though, considering this thing has been "bug free" for how long now? A few months?

valve probably scoured that game for countless hours. every minute detail of that game was checked

Worst case scenario, they find a crash, Valve fixes the crash and a new RC is released. That would probably be another week delay. Best case scenario is they play test it, everything looks good, it goes gold very soon.

even in that time period of a few months im sure they were STILL checking for bugs. we'll just have to see, i may be dead wrong

There is bound to be bugs still in there, after hl2 is released there is bound to be patches released to correct issues. Finding more now could reduce the needs for patching.

even if the first copy had bugs, VALVe cold just release updates thru steam but i dont think that after all the tests and the cs:s beta they would send a buggy RC... release the damn game!!!

The game has not been bug free for months.

its not even bug free now, no game ever released on the PC has ever been bug free, nor will there ever be one that is.

I know that. I'm just saying VALVe was saying that it was "bug free" a long time ago.

I predict that the only possible way the initial RC will get rejected is if one of Vivendi's testing computers has a virus or worm that directly affects how HL2 is executed.

yea but valve have passwords like gaben lol :/ and if anyone saw the leak which should have been released 2 weeks after everyone saw it it was about 20% complete and valve said that was finished

Going Gold on monday, Released worldwide on the 30th of September..

lol, not quite time to go gold on monday i think, and who said its been bug free for ages? i think you'll find thats one of the main things thats been holding it back, that and polish, man does that game have a whole lot of polish!

I wonder if my mid-october estimate will come true now?
You guys know october ? the month BEFORE NOVEMBER.

At some point I actually didn't think anyone knew there was a month called october.. Everyone was talking about September or November release ... Is Christmas in March where you guys come from :p

vivendi ..........are they expert in testing games ?

Vivendi could send the game back for any number of reasons, not just bugs. However it's highly probable that Vivendi have had access to the game before now, so if there are any issues that need to be ironed out they are probably cosmetic aspects like load up screen contents etc.

They are a game publisher. They have to be...some random joe can't just walk up and say "HEY! IMA GAME PUBLISHER, SEND ME JUNK!"

I think you will see it go gold once the CS:S beta ends.

It hasn't ended yet has it? Besides since it looks like that is gonna be included with HL2 they would hafta test that for bugs?

Although i don't think they search for gameplay bugs but just for like making sure the installer works on all kinds of OS and different hardware.. Maybe they play through the entire game on a number of different PC setups just to make sure that it runs... that sounds like more likely i guess

i dunno

FYI: This isn't the fasest growing thread ever... that one belongs to (well recently) was the fake gold announcement thread :-D

this was a pleasant suprise on the forums, I wasn't really expecting them to get the RC out by today. awesome work

If there are small bugs in HL2 that VU would like to get rid of, wouldn't valve just release an update over steam to fix them. All those who buy the offline version would have to just put up with it.

Actually, it could very well go gold on Monday. As I'm sure you all recall, HL went gold in 48 hours. Provided no major bugs, Thurs-Sun is enough time to test. (And don't think people won't be on this over the weekend either)

[Edited to refer to the right freaking game]

If I worked at Vivendi I would test it through the weekend.

Who needs sleep, food, women when your getting paid to play HL2 before everyone else in the world... Not I!

Add: Oh and I would also be very supprised if the first RC isnt accepted. The good people at valve are very thorough.

Half Life did go gold in 2 days

so if hl2 goes gold after this RC, how much till it's out? :E

How can the RC get rejected?

Design, Too steep hardware requirements, Politically incorrect content (race, religion, ties to current events etc)...

shouldn't take more than a week after that, but it prolly won't be less than 2-3 days either. They have to ship it all over the world.

I would be surprised if it wasn't rejected. Most games go through a few RCs.

HL was an exception to the rule.

Incompatability with certain chipsets.

I figured it would be released in the US first then slowly localize across the world as the time it takes to reach everywhere...

Unless they wait till most places around the world have been shipt and have it in stock, then set a date and that's when all the stores can release it

as will HL2 also

no way, valve has tested hl2 extensively, there's no way the RC can be rejected
