Gather 'round children, and let me tell you a little story about how I came to like this game.
Long, long ago, in a suburb far, far away, I wouldn't TOUCH an FPS, because the general idea of one didn't interest me at all. In my mind, FPSs=boring shooting game. So when Half Life 1 first came out, I didn't play it.
Years pass, stuff happens, blahblahblah, I come across the June/July '04 issue of Game Developer magazine and see this ad for the Havok engine. My exact first impression was, and I quote, was "Woah." Mind you, I am a graphic designer in-training, so I work with this kinda stuff all the time. It takes a pretty damn good rendering to impress me.
So with the cash from selling back my textbooks from the fall semester, I bought HL2, not knowing what to expect. I figured that I'd play it once, and then leave it to rot on the shelf along with Dungeon Siege. I was wrong. So very, very wrong. The same day I bought the game, I ended up spending 4 hours straight playing it. I found that it was not only nice to look at, but challenging and fun to play, and *gasp* it has a storyline! My only regret is that I didn't play HL1 when it first came out. *kicks self*
So yeah...that's how I got hooked. :cheese:
