Okay.... a little poll for you guys!

I've seen a lot of mod ideas. Some good.. some bad... some crap.. some... old ^^ But it's allways this way.

But I'd like to know one think! Are you guys going for fun or competition.

Let me explain: The success of CS, DOD and NS are just WOW. Let's not speak about the mods themselves... but they got success. The makers are famous and may start careers in game development. I'm sure that people think "Damn... these guys made a simple mod. I'm capable of this, too! I'll be famous, too! NYAHAHAHAH!".. okay.. let's get rid of that NYAHAHAHAH. But I think some mod teams have just started to become famous and make it onto Valve's List.
On the other hand are peeps that want to make mods just for fun. They think of an idea and start to mod. These are mainly funmods.
And there are modteams (mine included) which are going for planing, a good team and fun.

All these kinds of mods can be successful. All of these mods are able to make it further than the most. Why? Cause it's up to the taste of the player. If peeps like a simple hangman mod for HL2 it might become famous.

So... tell me 'bout our mods and say what kind of mod it is...

I would say its all about having fun :)

I want to make a nice mod (X-Com based idea, another thread), but I know that if I make it all alone with all my skillz, it would be boxes fighting triangles in a circle enviroment. But that dont put me down! Those damn triangles will NOT win over me! BWAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!

I htink anyone who looks here and choose succsess needs to rethink thier mod. You can't attempt to make a fun, sucssesful mod if you jsut want popularity out of it.

For Fun.

Its not about being successfull or being famous, although it'd be a cool bonus... It's about making something fun for people

one thing that the Mod community has, is that its not for money, so you can't really run off of the money, making rubbish mods, has no bonus..although people buy rubish games (ie MATRIX RELOADED TR:AOD etc) and the company gets money, people will not play rubbish Mods, and even if someone downloads it, the developers don't get money or the satisfaction of a mod people are out there playing and enjoying...

Okay.. so we can say. Making a mod is just for the players and the fun.

Another question. Whould any of you guys change the mod if Valve asked you? If they say: "Cool. Your SuperNinjaMangaBabe-Mod roxX0rs the soxX0rs. But we want a ninja pig!" Whould you guys get rid of the cute babe and put in a fat, nasty pig?

(just for security. I'm talking about the animal.. the pig... the real pigs.. nothing to do with any kind of human ^^)

I think makeing a mod has to be fun otherwise why do it? Like Stone said, getting a career out of it would be a cool bonus, I think in order for me to do a mod that it has to be something that in the end I want to play and have fun makeing.

I'm having a ton of fun designing my mod, but the ultimate reason I'm doing it is... so I can play it! Which I guess means more fun. I hope completing the mod will give me some sort of access into the whole video game development industry (actually, I don't just hope, I pray and pray), but right now, I'm trying to make the most fun mod I can.

I think with fun comes success. So it's hard to vote on one of your options =/

For me, it's mostly about the success. Not success in the way of Counter-Strike and being offered a job because of the mod. Success as in having something completed after months of hard work. I just want to finally get into the leading and development of a mod and work from start to finish, as I've tried and failed to do in the past.

Also, another thing. It's a great resume builder if you want to get into the games industry.

The only thing im doing all day is thinking about gamedesigns (yes, its sad...) and i love it when i see it working :)

Its a good way to learn things and get into the industry (if you do it right and know your things)

For me its a learning experience - and also Creating something new and very fun.
I'd like to get my first mod idea out the door (That i've worked on for 11 years) - but I need help at the momment.

What I like about mods
You Get to meet new people and make fun games - Today it seems its all about the money.

All I want to do is create a New Genre - great fun games.
But I can't do that without a team -

My mod idea is on this forum posted.

I had a lot of trouble with my girlfriend.... she once began to tell me something and I started to think about a technical way to make it possible to climb walls with a rope. I got some sort of flash and said: "Yeah! A ropegun! I know how to do it!!! That'll be kewl for our mod!!!" You know what she said? "No sex for you, tonight, cliffhanger!"

I'm spending a lot of time in designing games. I got a lot of ideas and even more to come. I know that it's hard for ppl to understand, but I'm only happy if I can sit in silent room only with a refreshing drink, a pen and a lot of paper

Being a designer is sooooo painful........

... for your girlfriend ^^
