css is recently released, i would like to know on it runs on different videocards, someone told me that the game run at over 60 fps on 9800 with everything high and 16x aa and that it runs at over 20 fps only on 6800 256mb v9999 gamer edition with the same setting. Can anyone who has played it at cyber cafe confirm that ???

I haven't, but I can say that guy is a complete idiot.

i hope u're right, cuz i have the gamer edition, if it doesn't perform better than a 9800, at least it should perform as good as it

No, I don't think so.. I don't think there is none official benchmarks.

But I agree with this me2you1 guy. Well.. I'm a big and fat donkey, if you ask what I am, so, you, "newbie" fella, you don't have to worry about anything.
I'm fatter dumbass than you.

I mean really think about it, a pci express card (ge is that) vs regular agp from last gen. Seems pretty obvious that the kid is messed up a little in the head. "newbie" go slap him for me please, lol. Sorry I'm violent today. Too much smashing pumpkins. :)

Well... nVidia cards are supposed to be slower but be able to produce slightly better graphics max then Radeon cards (x800). So I wouldn't be surprised if 9800's are FASTER then the card but not neccesairly better.

Hmmm.. I always thought ATI was the king of Image Quality, with full precision floating point calculations...

You mean better image quality in HL2 specifically or all games in general? Neither of these make much sense. The only feature 6800's have over x800's is 3.0 pixel shaders. These aren't implemented in any game except Far Cry, and there they're used to optimize performance, not change anything graphically. We've barely entered the 2.0 pixel shader era. Doom3 for instance has all of one ps2.0 effect, I think (the heat haze). HL2 will be the first game to really use ps2.0 (far cry has a few effects and BF:V has a smidgeon of it). This generation of gards seems to have no difference in image quality outside of tiny differences in AA and AF.

so whats best cost wise? ive got a FX5700. how will it perform, cept' im planning to upgrade purely for the 2 best games Of All Time, Doom3 and HL2. i was going for a 6800GT at $709AUD or a X800Pro at $699AUD/$689AUD (the $689 is from some people ive never heard before, Palit). which is better?

ill probably forget to come back here cause im so stupid and hl2.net doesnt have an email thingy feature.

A lot of it depends on your power supply. If you don't have one over 430W (maybe 450W), I wouldn't go anywhere near a 6800GT. Those things practically need their own generator. An X800 Pro will give you slightly less FPS, but it will consume MUCH less power. You could probably get away with a 350W (maybe 300W, but doubtful) power supply depending on how many things you have hooked up inside your PC consuming power.

i could get a better PSU.. it was on my to do list anyway.

does the fact that the x800 pro has only 12 pipelines while the 6800gt has 16 pipelines matter? this is really bugging me

thanks

Yes, as I said, you won't get as good FPS with the X800 Pro as you will with the 6800GT. Also, if it matters to you, the 6800GT has DirectX 9.0c implemented in hardware already, while the X800 line does not.

What...?

I know people who are running a GeForce 6800GT on a 350W power supply and lower. I don't know who's been telling you that you need a big expensive PSU to run 6800GT's but they've been telling you porky's.

My bad, the article I had read referred to the 6800 Ultra. I'll go stand in the corner now.

I went and played CS:S at a local LAN center on Saturday that was running the game on machines with the following specs:

Athlon XP 2500
512 MB DDR 3200 RAM
Radeon 9600SE

Yes, you read that correctly, they were using 9600SE videocards in all of their PCs. :( Obviously not a "top of the line" LAN Center, but its the only one within 3 hours of me, sooo... Anyway, the performance in-game was "playable" but definitely not up to my standards, or any serious gamer's standards for that matter. The average framerate was around 30 FPS, sometimes lower, sometimes higher, but usually right around 30. This was while playing at 800x600 resolution, WITHOUT any AA or AF and all graphics settings on medium or low.

I had a relatively high ping when I tried playing on an Internet server so myself and one other guy at the Cafe took turns hosting a game and playing on the LAN instead. There was only the two of us playing against each other so it wasn't like there were a ton of things going on in the server all at once, but I'd still experience some severe chopiness at times when one of us would get shot and die.

Basically, I wouldn't be happy playing the game if I had to do so with that kind of a setup. Moral of the story? If you have a 9600SE, which you shouldn't btw, you might want to save up for a new graphics card because its not going to cut it for Source games Sparky.

60 - 70 fps on a geforce4 ti4200 x8 agp

medium quality. .. ohh yes ;>

buying a 9800 pro this week too.. so I'ma have 2 pc's that can run it

100-130+ FPS on 6800 Gt :naughty:

what's the spec of the computer ?? my card is sligtly inferior to 6800 gt, it also has 256mb and 16 pipelines and i can easily overclock it to 420 mhz.

P4 3.0 GHz 800 Mhz FSB
1 Gig RAM

I have a GeForce 6800 Ultra and i run it on a 350watt PSU. it runs fine! you need a 480w psu if you're going to overclock it though.

i think you should be in the 70 - 90 +FPS range. don't quote me on that though.

P 2.6 512mb ram GF 5700 256mb

Ok seriously though, the recommended specs for this game seem somewhat low yet people are upgrading from GF FX5700 for this game... I currently have a P 2.6 512mb ram (gonna prolly get another 512 for HL2) ASUS GeForce FX5700 256mb do I really need to upgrade??? I wanna put the settings up but I don't need some crazy system. How will my system handle HL2? I will want GFX on HIGH and some AA don't need it maxed though.

I'm not sure about you, but I ran my 9800pro on a 300W PSU and it ran but when I got a 350W PSU, my performance doubled. I guess the video card wasn't getting enough juice and I surmise that not all the pipelines were running. Just a little info, because I didn't get any warning or anything whatsoever. It would be nice if there was some kind of utility to detect if your video card is getting enough power.

Aye, I play at over 60fps 4xAA/16xAF 9800 Pro max settings, 1280x960.

i got a 9800pro and a 6800gt. both are good cards. 9800pro 1280x1024 in action is about 73fps. the 6800gt at the same resolution is 154fps in action.

with no action, both cards are constantly over 100fps. at the 400 $$ range the 6800gt is the way to go. if i had the money for a $$500+ card, id get the x800xt.

2.4c@3ghz
2gb ddr400
abit is7
400watt antec psu
6800gt.

WRONG. i got my 6800 gt up to 420/1.1. no need to overclock though cause both cards are extremely fast.

This just in:

TNT2 M64 based cards = 1-2fps on the lowest of the low settings.

:)

guys
I just got this pc from all of the cash I had :

Something's wrong...

Install:

DirectX 9.0c
ATI Catalyst 4.8

Something's not right...maybe all that OC'ing is slowing it down. You should be getting High, 1024x768, 4xAA/16xAF 60fps.

If you are running a TRUEPOWER series antec, thats why 400 is enough. The truepower series run alot higher than what they say...Now if my x800xt would ship i'd be just peachy

i really dont think hes gonna get 60 fps at 4xAA and 16xAF with an 9800pro... maybe when hes alone on the map :imu:
but i think that he has to low fps for his pc though :rolling:

Well, maybe, mine is at 2.96Ghz and thats what I get. So he will probably get that kind of speed with no AA.
