How long will the opening train ride be?

I would like it to be kinda long, giving you an atmosphere of people talking, and the look of the train, kinda like the calm before the storm

i didn't like it in hl1 where the ride in the beginging was extra long so i hoep this one in hl2 is not that long either

I hope its quite long as well; when u get off the train arent there a load of metro police waiting at the station and a big screen. But i dont think they attack you, its just to show u the kinda dictatorship the city is in.

Its extremely short.

Prima games released a screenshot of the first pages of the guide and it clearly shows an overview map of the train station and just a straight piece of track leading to the platforms.

I think something will happen before the train ride starts...

But I want the train ride to be long enough so that I can get the lid off of my vaseline and get my spatula out of my drawer...

did I just say that out loud??? :naughty:

why are you asking this? no1 knows...but valve

and the people who played "beta" or so called the leaked version...if that's what it is

the leak never gave any indication of how long the train ride will be... and I guess he asked the question for the same reason as most of these threads over the past couple of years... ie he is an excited fan.

More appropriate question:

"Why are you asking what you asked?"

but the question cannot be answered, and wtf is that shit how i should have said what i said? wow

We can take an educated guess. Track 28 on the HL2 soundtrack sounds like it's the music heard on the train ride, from the G-Man Intro bink. If so, it's 1 minute and 26 seconds long. So the Train ride will, at max, be 1:26.

this forum would be like a ghost town if people never posted threads that "cannot be answered", so I don't understand YOUR post.

Who cares if the question can't be answered, the guy is excited and looking forward to the game...

Wha? :burp:

I hope it's long enought to look out of the windows and talk to the people. I loved the HL1 train intro. :)

I am wondering what will happen if you walk out of the train, use cheat commands and start shooting people and soldiers... what would happen? Will the enemy going to attack you? Will they send soldiers to try to kill you?

I think they might start trying to whack you with their stun gun thingy. They are probably invincible too. These are the things that I will try after I complete the game...

And I agree, please give us at least opening credits worth of train ride... (but I don't think it will be as long as hl1. There probably won't be a voiceover like in the first, so they may have cut it down to get on with the action)...

Some review (or preview?) of HL2 said that the opening train ride is very short, however I have looked through the strategy guide and there is good news. Warning: do NOT read this spoiler if you do not want some of the plot spoiled.
Later in the game when you are inside the citadel, you enter a pod suspended from a monorail and travel through the citadel. It looks like a pretty lengthy ride and VERY reminiscent of the opening tram ride in HL1.

That sounds pretty cool.. Isn't there some concept art that might be from that?

Yeah there was, I always wondered what that picture was.

I can imagine now... standing up on a buffled train, around you civilians dressed in grey suits sitting and nervously waiting to arrive at their destination. Outside the train shoots passed the world outside city 17, maybe a barron landscape. You have enough time to talk to the passsengers and look out of the train. Then it stops. Enter City 17... :sniper:

I enjoyed the Black Mesa lengthy tram ride. Really made me feel like I was Gordon Freeman. I hope we have a decent amount of time to look around.

I loved the long intro into Half-Life, but I'm glad the train ride into City 17 will be short, because I'm going to play HL:S all the way through and then immediately start HL2. That way it's like, "Ok, I just survived all of that, accepted the offer of employment, and...where I am? Another train? And...what's that up ahead?" *Enter City 17*

Seems more fun to go right from thinking I'm getting a break into some quick action. So at least the first time I play through HL2, the shorter train ride appeals to me. I don't know about subsequent times playing through the game; maybe I'll decide then that a longer train ride would've been good. To echo some other people though, I trust Valve.

They should start the train ride now and just make us go in circles until it comes out.

Hehehe, I like that.

Or they could have made a realistic trainride across Europe that would have taken 40 hours!

...I'd play that. Seriously. But only if I could throw people from the train with my manipulator.
