With 40 posts per page every thread doesn't have 3 or 4 pages.. they have 2 at most usually. Also, you can read most entire threads without having to load a new page.. It's also wayyyy less messy.

That's true.. But I'm never looking for a specific post, and I only post here often enough that finding a new post doesn't really come into play.. I tend to read a thread once.. post.. and call it quits.
