How to avoid loading the menu background

The menu background adds a good minute or so to my load times, even though I've got a decent system. After some poking around and Googling I've found that you can run the game with the command like parameter:
Code:
+map_background none
To do this, right click on Half-Life 2 in Steam, goto Properties, and click Launch Options. Enter the text in the box. This will keep it at the blurry level screen instead of loading the actual map. My apologies if this has been posted before (searching didn't turn up anything).

adding "-console" to the launch parameters also does this
AND
it gives u an open console at the main menu

thank you baby haysoos

those menu background loading times were getting on my nerves

Odd thing, I can't get my console out except for that one time in the main menu after starting it... No keys no nothing, won't even create a bind...

Yeah its a really nice little feature to have them backgrounds, but mostly when I goto play HL2 I just want to get into the action ASAP, so i think i'll turn it off for now. cheers
