Thanks to Simmo for the whole 'speak 1337 with Microsoft' link... I went through other links and found this...

Netiquette 101 for new netizens (Corny, I know.)

I read a small tid-bit on the bottom that goes as follows

Learning online acronyms

Another idea that has evolved to streamline communication is using acronyms. Because typing takes longer than speaking, savvy netizens like to reduce common phrases to a few simple letters. If you encounter an acronym you haven't seen yet, politely ask what it means and you'll have a great acronym vocabulary before you know it.

Here are some examples of commonly used acronyms:

ASAP (As soon as possible)
BBL (Be back later)
BRB (Be right back)
LOL (Laughing out loud)
ROTFL (Rolling on the floor laughing)
BTW (By the way)
OIC (Oh, I see)
CUL (See you later)
OTOH (On the other hand)
GMTA (Great minds think alike)
IMHO (In my humble opinion)
RUOK (Are you OK?)
TIA (Thanks in advance)

J/K (Just kidding)
TTFN (Ta-ta for now)

The ones I marked in bold are the ones I have never seen before or they are wrong. If I saw an acronym that I didn't know, if I asked I will get the following responses:

"YOU FCKEN TEAM-FLASHING ****!"

"n0000000000000000000000000000beh"

"No."

I believe the phrase "ROTFL" is "ROFL" or "ROFLCAKES" :|

Anyway, the point of this thread is to show this link:

Enjoy!

I have only seen ROTFL and IMHO among the acronyms you so boldly put in bold.

ROFL is pretty commom......
But the other bold words,I'm sure no one uses them there days.

I mean:

ROTFL

I never saw the T before.

thats because there is no T, and never has been as far as i know.
I started online gaming in starcraft though....

Boldly putting things in bold that no man has put in bold before!

tia and imho are real but i'm not sure about the others. also, i've never seen the t used in rofl in my past 4 years on the net ..

IMHO = In my honest opinion

Well, that's what I was told.

yeah I was told it was honest as well.

Why did they even try..

Guidelines for good netiquette

-Apply the golden rule: Treat others the way you would like to be treated.

Wow, if Microsoft had thier way, I would actually be treated with respect on online games.

-Remember there is a person on the other end of your message.

/me remembers the advertising bots on Diablo 2

-Know where you are and use appropriate good behavior.

Sorry, that won't work.

-Be forgiving of other people's mistakes, especially newcomers.

*read my first post on this thread about asking what an acronym means*

-Always remain calm, especially if someone insults you (or you think they have).

Liar.

-Check your spelling, be concise, and keep messages short.

lol @ common sense

-When participating in chat rooms, avoid interrupting others and stay on topic.

May as well stop putting in messges, waiting for someone to answer, but they will be too afraid to interupt :|

-Follow the same rules of good behavior that you would in real life.

If that is true, people in real life randomly insult, can't spell and kill thier friends.

I've usied IMO instead of IMHO (I was told it was humble or honest.)and TIA and...

I always used ROTFL but I probably just learned it wrong or learned it from others that learned it wrong.

I have seen RUOK and CUL, but only a few times used between girls/guys who are affectionate publicly online.

The other bold ones I've never seen and are ghey.

Great minds think alike??
Is this a joke? Who says that on the internet?

ct 1-"i think the ts are goin b"
ct2- "me too"
ct 1-"GTMA LOLLERSK8Z"
ct 2-"Kill yourself"
