i have an nvidia card and i was wondering how to make it fun in dx 9 i have an 5200 fx

Nvidia doesn't have 'true/real' dx9 codepaths. So I'd reccomend against it.

why do you lie about it?
every gf fx card has full dx9 (p/v shader 2.0) support.

want to see hl2 on my gf fx 5200?

He didn't lie. He meant there is no FP24 support on the FX, only FP16 and FP32. It can technically do Dx9 because FP24 or better is needed, but FP32 runs so poorly that you might as well run in FP16. So for all practical purposes it's a Dx8.1 card.

dx9 doesnt limit shaders to the use of fp24 and fp32.

also: i corrected only his statement about that gf fx cards have no dx9 support ... they simply have. so technically ... he DID lie.
its clear that the low/mid segment cards of the fx series cant render fp32 in any acceptable framerate.
but over the last day it came also clear that hl2 doesnt need any fp24 or fp32. if you force fp16, it just looks the same.

so ...

so, I shouldn't do this on my 128mg FX 5200?

you CAN do it.
but dont expect framerates above 15fps in scenes with water.
:)

try it anyway, it's just a console command. if the performance doesn't satisfy you, just "mat_dxlevel 80" and all will revert as before
