How we got to the Borealis...

It will probably start of with the death of Eli, ehm,
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Fade in from black exactly where we left of or 2 mins before. Then Magnusson and co run in asking what just happend. Maybe a cutscene of Ep. 2.
Vorts do some voodoo or Heli ride where gman drops in and interrupts the ride, seperating Gordon from Alyx.

SECONDED.

I'd say that the chopper is more than capable, but due to the halflife style. The Helicopter will crash and you will have to find another way.

Srsly, the whole game is just them putting obstacles in your way, nothing ever goes smoothly.
or rather, the obstacles could be IN The Borealis itself..
But Valve aren't picky, they'll probably do both.

Also, forgive me for letting my inner child overcome me, but..

ALYX! GET TO DAH CHOPPAH!

In all seriousness though, I could see episode 3 beginning at
Eli's funeral..
The first enemies in the game are other funeral-goers trying to engage in awkward conversation that you must avoid.
"Gordon, my condol-"
BAM! GRAVITY GUN COFFIN TO THE FACE.

I forsee Ep3 starting off at White Forest, after Eli has been buried, and Alyx is still in a mourning/shock sorta thing...

Ep. 3 will start off exactly where Ep. 2 left off. No Half-Life game can start so-and-so minutes after the last one unless Gordon's been in stasis or unconscious.

Uh, you don't know that. So far in the HL2 time line, there hasn't been a game that Gordon has been conscious/active at the end of until Ep2. In the end of HL2, he was to be put in stasis. At the end of Ep1, his train was hit by debris caused by the citadel exploding, so we cant confirm how active he is. Hours could have passed between the train crashing and Gordon coming to at the start of Ep2. Heck, you're uncovered from rubble at the start of Ep1, so its possible you were under there for days (however we all know better because of the circumstances) the only Ep so far that Gordon could have continued doing things when it finishes has been Ep2, since you are mostly unharmed after the advisor attack.

But he never really starts a game/episode in the exact same place he left off not counting the stasis part of the end of HL2 beginning of Ep.1 right?

Seems to me like there could be some backstory (at least a little) in what happens in between the games.

Uh, that's what I said. He was in stasis or unconscious during all those times, meaning we always see what Gordon sees.

(Wrong quote before)
I have a hard time seeing how
Gordon faints in the ending of EP2 and will wake up in the chopper again in EP3.
will work. I mean, does Alyx carry a unconscious Gordon into the chopper? Makes no sense. And all games have started exactly where the other left of, so we missed nothing Gordon experience. So why whould Ep.3 be a exception? Thats why I belive a cutscene showing a quick recap of episode 2, followed by the death of Eli will be how Episode 3 starts of.

Do they have the time though? They've got to find Mossman before the Combine find her and/or they get their hands on whatever's on the Borealis. Makes me think maybe Gordon will be going alone, at least to start with.

Because of a cold environment do you think we will see different kinds of troops and/or maybe see some synths?

Synths would be cool, we've only really seen those weird ones in the citadel, it would be nice to battle em' eh?

Yet again, I think it Episode 2 made it clear that Alyx would be the pilot as Alyx has never actually heard Gordon's voice so she can't just say, 'Ok Gordon, you fly the helicopter, even if you can't YOU ARE FLYING!!'

Alyx should be wearing warmer clothes.

As for the Mil Mi-17 we see:

Performance

* Maximum speed: 250 km/h (156 mph)
* Range: 950 km (594 miles)
* Service ceiling: 6,000 m (19,690 ft)
* Rate of climb: 8 m/s (ft/min)
* Disc loading: 31 kg/m? (6 lb/ft?)
* Power/mass: 0.26 kW/kg (0.16 hp/lb)

* Fuel consumption: 600 kg/h (1,320 lb/h)

Should be enough to reach the arctic.

Dont see why you guys think the chopper is going to be faithful and get them all the way there. We all know that in classic Half Life fashion, it will go down and we will have to quest there.

Ok, so now we know that the heli can fly out there, and if it does fly to the arctic, how would we get to the Arctic to survive a crash land, AND and the inhospitable/dangerous features?

And talking about Alyx's clothes would the initial HL2 in winter clothes of Alyx be worn by Alyx herself??

The borielis will not be in the arctic circle, I think it was made clear that Mossman is in a facility close to that of the mountain visible in Episode 2, even with that helicopters performance, it will still never reach the arctic, 500 miles, don't think so... That peak looks a much better option

How was that made clear? Nothing suggested they are in the mountains around of White Forest...

I'm thinking combine elite in white trenchcoats. Only the red eye visible through the white, snowy gloom. :D

that would look cool, but if you look, through out episode 2 that peak gets closer, its valve doing there usual 'Show you first, then take you there later' for example the citadel in HL2, the first thing you see is breen on a monitor and the citadel looming in the background

You know Artic doens't necessaily mean Artic, but the Artic Circle in general.

The Borealis could very well still be situated on the European Continent

But that would be damn stupid. How the hell would the Borealis be situated in a peak

It Vanished, then reappeared in a random location on Earth

I understand that part. :p

What I meant by that was, how would a ship that large situate itself the peak? It seems like it would just slide off or something. Dunno, anyone got a screenshot of the peak's general shape? I guess it could hitch itself in a crack.

Why does everyone cept a select few not rad the thread? If the story arc took us to a point where the Borealis was in the Arctic, how would we do anything while we fly there? Is the HEV suit used to cold? Are there possibly synths there? And what about my original post, read that!!!!!

i believe u wont make even go to the borealis lol
please flame me

Considering your theory is correct, where would we crash in relation to the Borealis and/or launching point? And also, I think it is quite possible that through much critical thinking you might have to have a mission to find fuel for the Copter. Wait, no.

And I need a Christmas Avatar GiF for anyone feeling generous.

Ok, just to put it out there, the trailer for Ep. 3 wi ll definitely hint at some sort of story along with the Heli. And maybe a screen with a map showing the way to the Arctic/that other place we're going?

Or actually give us factual evidence that we'll be in an arcitic environment in some sort of village with a tau cannon fighting an advisor... <insert further assumptions here>

do they no where the borealis is though, i mean exactly, or was it in the packet data? Anyway, Alyx can probably fly a helicopter seeing as she an gordon where going of in it. "Right, Gordon, fly us there." *Gordon shakes head vigirously* "No objectins huh? Good. Lets go" This would explain if theres a crash, how it happens :p

WRONG THREAD :p

Oh yes, Borealis=Noahs ark

True story.

Oh sheez. Is the HL series in some way related to Catholicism and/or Jesus?

Gordon=Jesus

Eli=Moses

Alyx=Mary Magdalene

Dr. Breen=Pontius Pilote

Mossman=Mary?

Joseph/The father paternally in the unbiblical sense=Kleiner? he created teleport.

And devil=advisors, or GLaDOs. Can't tell at the mo.

You just ruined the entire series for me...

Just like my parents ruined Narnia for me!

Narnia?

Is that the show with the Daemons and Compasses and Daniel Craig?
