i was wondering how is your school (university) like?

how does a typical day look like? standard sitting behind the desk listening to some crap?

does your school give you any interesting things to do, like projects, seminars?

how much does the school support you in self accomplishment?

does your school help at getting potential jobs?

how is the average professor like?

do you feel like just a number?

any complaints?

i'm really interested how is it like in other universities

Varies from course to course a lot, obviously so I'll only speak for myself.

There's always a mixture of lectures and labs, with more and more lab work in later years. They're both usually pretty interesting, the majority of our lecturers give good ones and they all know their stuff.
Lots of employability courses offered for those who a re interested.

Complaints? Not really, Glasgow University is pretty good and very good for my subject.

I was wondering how is your school (university) like?
That's great.

how does a typical day look like? standard sitting behind the desk listening to some crap?
Nope, i'm doin a crim and justice course at ECU, so it's basically fun fun fun. Plus the missus is in a few of the units too lol

does your school give you any interesting things to do, like projects, seminars?
Yup

how much does the school support you in self accomplishment?
Quite a bit. You got a shitload of support everywhere, it's virtually flowing from the staff's ears.

does your school help at getting potential jobs?
yup

how is the average professor like?
Clinical

do you fell like just a number?
no i don't FELL like just a number

any complaints?

i was wondering how is your school (university) like?
I think it's pretty good. Small (Which I like), but just loads of people.

how does a typical day look like? standard sitting behind the desk listening to some crap?
I do Creative Writing, so most days it's actually seminars and workshops. I only actually have one lecture, and that's on Friday between 2 workshops (and is only an hour long). I really love workshopping because there's lots of talking going on and discussing work.

does your school give you any interesting things to do, like projects, seminars?
My entire course is almost all coursework, so there's usually deadlines coming up most of the time, but we are also given opportunities to do out of uni entries into journals and poetry competitions if we so wish.

how much does the school support you in self accomplishment?
Dunno what you mean...

does your school help at getting potential jobs?
Pretty much no, but like I said they are interested in extra-curricular activities which can net you a pretty penny if you win.

how is the average professor like?
I think most of my professors are amazing!. My main workshop classes (Writing Media and Starting to Write) have the coolest teachers I have ever known, and they often inspire me to write. One of them used to be a Private Detective!

do you fell like just a number?
Not in most of my lessons because unlike how most people picture every uni lecture, all our classes are pretty small (maximum 30 people, minimum 10). It's all very cosy.

any complaints?
I only had a few complaints at the start of the year regarding a certain teacher who was clearly in the wrong when they shouted at me. It seems to have been resolved by that teacher being extra nice to me (though not apologising) and me not bothering to follow it up.

There you go. I like my uni a lot.

my university is pretty good. I am in "Computing and Network Communications" at Brock University. A typical day would be going to class from 8-10, then having nothing until 2 or 3. In between then, me and my friends just chill at a bar in our school.

I only do 2 years of java programming, then after i get sent over to college and do networking and co-op terms with a company. I've been told once i graduate i'll be making 60-80 grand a year to start off with :|...so yea lol i better do good

My University is okay...that's about all I can say for it.

i was wondering how is your school (university) like?

Big.

how does a typical day look like? standard sitting behind the desk listening to some crap?

Mostly lectures. We're building a hovercraft in my engineering design class. Lots of homework.

does your school give you any interesting things to do, like projects, seminars?

See above.

how much does the school support you in self accomplishment?

Decently. They certainly don't want you to fail because it makes them look bad.

does your school help at getting potential jobs?

Yes.

how is the average professor like?

Hit and miss. I've had some good ones and some horrible ones.

do you feel like just a number?

With 30,000 undergraduate students, yes.

any complaints?

It's too much work.

University of Maryland. www.umd.edu

i was wondering how is your school (university) like?

First I should say that I go to Full Sail for computer animation.

how does a typical day look like? standard sitting behind the desk listening to some crap?

Sort of, but not really. Every class here has a 4 hour lecture, and then a 4 hour lab each day. So for the first 4 hours you're just listening, but for the second 4 hours you're actually doing the cool shit you learned earlier.

does your school give you any interesting things to do, like projects, seminars?

Every class has a big project which counts for the majority of your grade. And they're all really cool to work on. As for seminars, they have a few once in awhile, but more often they have speakers come from places like Pixar, EA, Weta, ILM or other game/film studios. Those are always really awesome to go to.

how much does the school support you in self accomplishment?

Well, its very very hard to pass some classes. They want to make sure you know what you're doing before they pass you. Some classes have a 75% fail rate. My initial class started off with around 75 people, now we're down to about 20 left who are on schedule for their original graduation. And apparently thats one of the best numbers the school has seen. The class before us only has like 4 of the original people.

For example, at the end of our program, the last 5 months make up whats called the "Finals department." Its when you make your demo reel to send out to companies for jobs and such. There is the first month, which is pre-production, then the next three months are the production months (where you make your demo reel assets) and the final month is when you composite it all together, and print out the "Gold" dvd for your reel. If you fail any of those classes, you go back to the beginning of the Finals Department. So lets say you have all your assets completed, they're up to quality and you pass the production class. But then in the last month you didnt have enough time to render everything out, so you failed it. You go all the way back to the pre-production class, and have to take all five months over again, making all new content.

So its difficult to pass, but not impossible. And with that said, there are also a lot of great instructors who are available and willing to help you succeed. The school is what you make of it, and a lot of people quickly find out that they dont have what it takes. But if you have the drive and passion for it, then you can make it all the way.

does your school help at getting potential jobs?

Yep, we have a whole "Career Development" department. When you graduate, if you got a 85% or better on your demo reel, then they automatically send your reel out to several of their contacts. Some people get a job the week they graduate thanks to the Career Development people. Otherwise, once you graduate you can contact them for leads on jobs and tips on where to look. Plus as an alumni, this service is provided to you for the rest of your life, so even 20 years down the line, I could call them up and see if they know of any sweet openings.
how is the average professor like?

do you feel like just a number?

Nope.

any complaints?

Its expensive, and the schedule is insane since they have to pack a normal school's 4 year bachelors program into two years. Every month the classes change, we go year-round, and we have usually a minimum of 40 hours of work (which doesnt count out-of-class work D: ) But I think the Pros easily outweigh the Cons.

really interesting

my university is a mix of your types, but there are less projects and stuff to do, it's more book grinding (which is boring) work.

meh i hate some of the professors on my school, since it's not a private uni they don't give too much concern about their reputation. i'm not saying they are incompetent in their field, but their lectures are a real pain in the ass, boring as hell.

eventough our profession is highly desired, the school barely does anything to help you in your career.

teamwork is not so common as it should be.

it's not that bad but motivation is really missing

yep, though some is interesting, especially since I'm done with general requirements garbage.

yeah, though I don't bother.

a lot

cannot determine, every professor is unique. Some are horribly droning, some are excellent.

not really, no

i was wondering how is your school (university) like?

Very busy and at the same time relaxed. I go to Val-Tech in Georgia. They are in the middle of being swallowed up by Valdosta State University at the moment, so in the next few months, I'd might as well say I'm attending VSU.

how does a typical day look like? standard sitting behind the desk listening to some crap?

Varies. I just finished most of the n00b classes, which contains lectures, paperwork, etc. Took, Security+ TCP/IP, C++, and a MS Office Online course last term. Taking Oracle database and Java next term. Lots of hands on in those classes though. College Algebra and Calculus sucks BTW. :p

does your school give you any interesting things to do, like projects, seminars?

Depends on the professor.

how much does the school support you in self accomplishment?

Not much. The philosophy here is that help is only granted to those who seek it. They don't bend over backwards for anyone. That's true to most Universities here in the States though. They do help with out of state career opportunities when it's needed.

does your school help at getting potential jobs?

Yup. I don't plan to use those services immediately though. I'm entering the U.S. NAVY when I graduate.

how is the average professor like?

Very good for now. Until they merge with VSU and professors become boring, droning, and careless due to the change to a faster paced uni oriented system.

do you feel like just a number?

yes

any complaints?

Excellent educational system and professors, but the administration sucks. They're all a bunch of idiots, including the president, who happens to be a Harvard graduate. :p That's true anywhere you go though. Oh, and it's expensive, I ran out of scholarship funds, and my parents are helping me pay for most of it now. :p

i'm really interested how is it like in other universities

Good for you. Do you want a cookie? *Just Kidding*

how does a typical day look like? standard sitting behind the desk listening to some crap?

Except for friday, for which I have only one hour-fifteen minutes class in the afternoon, I have about 6 hours of lecture/lab a day(DPT). I go home on the weekends since it's not far and I miss being able to walk around without socks.
does your school give you any interesting things to do, like projects, seminars?
Shitloads of picnics in the warmer weather, and they are planning on having a total of 10,000 hours in community service for the centennial.
how much does the school support you in self accomplishment?
Its still my freshman year so I'm not sure
does your school help at getting potential jobs?
Ditto

how is the average professor like?
Hard to say. Some act like a high school course, others are like the cliche discussion groups
I don't have the massive lecture hall scenarios though. My biggest class is 25-ish and all in regular classrooms.
do you feel like just a number?
Absolutely not. The student body is only twice the size of my high school
any complaints?
Breakfast and Dinner shut down too early

I will say that dating the wimminz is a hell of a lot easier and funner in college than in high school. I'm glad I didn't bother then. Everyone is poor so they don't expect the ritz.

how does a typical day look like? standard sitting behind the desk listening to some crap?
Yes, besides english and my drawing class. so half and half really

does your school give you any interesting things to do, like projects, seminars?
No not really.

how much does the school support you in self accomplishment?
until I pick my major, I don't feel I am doing much

does your school help at getting potential jobs?
I have no idea

how is the average professor like?
it varies alot. I have an english professor who is about 25 and still a grad student (who rocks) but I also have old man calculus every other day.

do you feel like just a number?
In some classes. The ones where they don't check an attendance (And I skip alot) yes. not in my english class of 20 or so.

any complaints?
The campus is pretty small and compact, no real rush to get across campus which is good. fairly inexpensive tuition, but the food prices make up for it.

Law:

3 x Lecture per week
3 x Exercises per week

Rest is free.

i was wondering how is your school (university) like? Pretty good, like the atmosphere and it is moderately small (10k undergrads)

how does a typical day look like? standard sitting behind the desk listening to some crap? Usually just spend days at gym or with my gf.

does your school give you any interesting things to do, like projects, seminars? We have 2 special guests each semester. Last semester Cute is what we aim for performed, and the comedian Christian Finnegan came here

how much does the school support you in self accomplishment? I guess a lot? There isn't that much freedom because it is a catholic university afterall. But besides that they pride themselves into thinking theres much self accomplishment, but who knows

does your school help at getting potential jobs?
Supposedly there are excellent connections with my school and Pittsburgh PA. A lot of people are able to get jobs right out of school here.

how is the average professor like? I've only complained really about 1 or so. Since classes are relatively small (40 kids max) your professor really gets to know you and will help you as much as possible in or outside the classroom.

do you feel like just a number? Not at all. see above ^

any complaints?Really expensive. But you get what you pay for.

Duquesne University. Pittsburgh PA www.duq.edu

how does a typical day look like? standard sitting behind the desk listening to some crap?

Ranges from sitting in lectures/tutorial rooms bored off my tits or actually being in a recording/multi-media studio and getting hands on with it all, which is a lot more interesting. I'm also free from Wednesday afternoon till Friday morning. Bliss.

does your school give you any interesting things to do, like projects, seminars?

We have a lot of written assignments to do, however I am also in the midst of two studio assignments, one requiring the creation of a soundscape and the other being a live recording assessment of a song of your choice.

how much does the school support you in self accomplishment?

The help is there, you just need to look for it and pull a few strings here and there.

does your school help at getting potential jobs?

I'll be going on a penultimate placement year before completing my final year.

how is the average professor like?

Pretty knowledgeable, generally ok to get on with. A few very eccentric characters, but it's to be expected.

do you feel like just a number?

In some modules. Others I'm on first name terms with most of the tutors.

any complaints?

Cost of living on campus and the quality of house services staff. They're absolutely useless. That aside, Bristol as a location is fantastic.

Pretty much sums it up.

Non-Existent, just the way I like it.

I put myself through college course in multimedia through a government loan ..they give you the option of setting your own monthly payments AND you can get an interest free period where you dont have to make payments if you cant afford it ..look into it ..you dont want to regret it later in life where it'll be much harder

Is it easier to get enrolled into a University in the UK or Canada? Monetarily speaking of course. :p

I dont know, never been to the UK but for foreign students it's a lot of money

room and board ..unless you plan to live/eat out of the dumpster

The UK charges foreign students a LOT. Like 18k GBP tuition fees per year type of thing.
Well, except for EU students in scottish uni's but that doesn't help yanks.

What about UK/Canadian citizens though? In comparison to the cost of education to the states?
room and board ..unless you plan to live/eat out of the dumpster
BTW, I LOL'ed.

again I dont know ..each school is different but I think it's somewhere around $400 per course ..again I havent been to college/university in a long time

For Canadian students going to an university undergraduate program within their home province our average tuition is about four grand a year (Though some of the big business schools have tuition nearly double that). The price goes up quite a bit if you come from out of province, exactly how much I don't have the slightest idea.

If your talking U.S. currency, then that's about what I have to pay. :p My Florida scholarship is null in Georgia. :p

dont go to georgia?

florida seems to be the place for you cuz free is very very good

how does a typical day look like?
Walk to my classes and get food somewhere on campus (which is a beautiful campus btw). Classes are sometimes boring sit at your desk and listen to the professor lecture type things and sometimes they're discussion-based, but generally they're pretty engaging overall. We have a lot of cool small-size seminars and stuff as well which is nice.

does your school give you any interesting things to do, like projects, seminars?
there's way more to do here than I could ever aspire to

how much does the school support you in self accomplishment?
don't really know what you mean by this

does your school help at getting potential jobs?
yes

how is the average professor like?
usually pretty cool

do you feel like just a number?
no

any complaints?
not really, I love this school :D

dont go to georgia?

florida seems to be the place for you cuz free is very very good
Tell me about it. ;) I earned a scholarship in a trade school program in Jacksonville, Fl where my internship helped some, but the closest universites to where I lived in Florida did not have the specific courses I was after. I could have moved further south where FSU and the University of Florida is, but the rent and/or room and board would be outrageous and would cut into my tuition/misc. monies that counts, even if I used my scholarship. (I made a decree to avoid loans as much as possible) I was lucky to get into that trade school in Jacksonville to begin with. :p So now I go to Val-tech/Valdosta State University.

what are you taking/majoring in?
Networking major, programming minor. The course title is "microcomputer specialist" when it was still a tech school. I wanted to take some Cisco and Linux courses, but the 2 year college I checked into in Florida didn't offer either. I got lucky to enroll into a college that offers what I wanted. It is a technical 2 year college but they are in the middle of having all properties sucked up by the neighboring Valdosta State University. Everything there is now becoming more "university-like" in the process including requirements and course schedules. Indeed, I was very lucky to get in before the transistion took place.

i was wondering how is your school (university) like?
>50,000 students. Main campus buildings are pretty condensed though so you walk around campus, or can take the campus shuttle around if you are lazy or tired.

how does a typical day look like? standard sitting behind the desk listening to some crap?
--I'm in chemical engineering. Physics and chemistry lectures are the most boring (large classes, just listen to the lecture and copy down notes, sometimes get handouts of powerpoint slides in class so then you just listen...). Chem Engr lectures are usually presented on powerpoint or blackboard. Sometimes you can get a fun class. I am taking a plant class (biology plants, NOT chemical plants, :hmph:) that has field trips to state parks/nature preserves every week.

does your school give you any interesting things to do, like projects, seminars?
--Can only speak for my major, but I usually get research projects in elective courses. These can be pretty interesting (I had one on transportation policy for an energy course -- focused on current issues. We also heard guess speakers for renewable energy, US energy policy, etc.).
--Standard chemistry lab courses.
--Very involved, time-consuming labs for chem engr. There's also a group senior plant design project. Interesting? More like painful.
--There are always seminars on campus that are free and open to the public, if you just mean going to hear a speaker outside of your course. Lots of seminars for physics & astronomy.
--Liberal arts majors get more thought/opinion seminar-courses.

how much does the school support you in self accomplishment?
--Not sure what you mean by that. If you are motivated you can get a lot done although sometimes getting through administration can be frustrating (I do a lot of extracurricular work around campus).
--Also possible to get involved with grading & tutoring as an undergrad but I have no motivation (besides money) to do that anymore.

does your school help at getting potential jobs?
--Career fairs, career assistance center, on-campus interviews

how is the average professor like?
--Decent, I suppose. Most of them probably don't really care about every individual student. A few good professors who really know what they're talking about and are genuinely good people. A few jerks. The worst are the ones that don't seem to know what they're doing and give vague problems.

do you feel like just a number?
--No.

any complaints?
--Tired all the time, but this is more from my major than the university. Sometimes it feels like the department punishes you on purpose and enjoys doing it. I realize that sounds sadistic or something, but I think many students in this major spend the majority of the semester either tired, or stressed out.

I haven't started yet, but I'll be attending Carnegie Mellon University (ranked 2nd behind MIT for computer science) next fall. I'll be majoring in computer science with a minor in robotics.

unis r 4 losers kkkkk it was the biggest waste of 6 years of my life.

Seriously though, .
