Oh for frickin sakes, would you have the time to look at the textures or blurry ness when the strider is attacking you? no.

C'mon, you won't stand there and look (the foot of the strider has blurry bolts) while it's impaling you - these things won't even be noticed when you are actually in the game, so give it a rest.

"Hey does the strider feature bump-map.. *strider attackes with beam*"

In any case, that's a low res render anyway, so I'm sure it'll look better on your petty 9800 and x800, so don't fret.

lol like i said you guys are pretty sensitive about my comments. lemme guess you all have mx440's and dont understand the concept of 16xAF? :D

Ah...16X AF...*bounces around in joy* :bounce:

You guys who are in denial of just about every picture for Half-Life 2 (ohh that must be on a lower end system, or that must be an older model) are only setting yourselves up for disapointment. I personally think it looks fine anyways. If you understood what was required to do for modeling and skinning, you would better understand why longer objects are blury.

Listen to the things that come from this mans mouth.

(SnowBall, I'm sure you're from the official Half-life forums, are you? - /me finds his account username/password - not had a look in aaageees, Some of the nice mods have left ) ;(

Yah, maybe BECAUSE THEY LOOK NOTHING LIKE THE SOURCE DEMO.

Argh, ... I'm not even going to say anything.

Think its funny how its called the Source demo, and not a Half-Life 2 demo? I'm sure you can gather what I'm trying to point out. (valve has already confirmed a lot of those details wont be in game anyways such as HDR).
To Duracell, yep thats me alright. Havent been there in months. I believe I remember you as well... vaguely though.
EDIT: I couldnt resist, but I bet annother reason is:
Its a design decision, not an engine limitation.

got a link? i thought i saw some HDR in the CS:S vid. say it aint so jack, say it aint so.

I'm fairly certain its in the Valve Info thread somewhere. I believe they said HDR wouldnt be in HL2 initially, but they may add it in a patch later on.

ah ok. as long as they eventually have it lol. hdr should be in every next gen game heh. it just makes them look alot better, and when games look better, the more you can enjoy the game.

the model looks great, but the texture is lacking. im pretty sure this wont look like the final version with all settings high. cause if it did.....id have to choke a bitch ;)
Then get ready to choke. Maybe then you'll stop whining.

People are wondering why alot of games are no longer original and fun? Look no further than this thread, customers constantly complain about graphics (even though they look just fine) so developers are forced to spend more time with the graphics and less on where it really matters. Of course this insn't the biggest reason why games have been lacking in originality but it certainly seems like a big reason.

Thats my opinion anyway.

It would be good to see the HL2 bible, i would like to know how that "big" gun is installed on that poor Bio Strider.

wow you guys are really sensitive about it lol.
im just saying, when you play a lot of games, and you work in the photoshop area with high res images and textures you can easily tell what is high res and low res. and that my friend is low res. the model looks great, but the texture is lacking. im pretty sure this wont look like the final version with all settings high. cause if it did.....id have to choke a bitch

Lol... clueless... There is no way of telling if something is high res or low res judging by blurriness alone. If I have a super high quality image and us some kind of blurr filter on it, it is still super high res, it's just blurred... Kind of obvious really.

Yes, Valve said that it wouldn't be initially implemented :)

Also, I call it the Source demo because that's what it's referred to on 3dgamers and FilePlanet...

but who would put a blur filter on a texture...? OWN3D HAHAHAHAHA LOL

I've got a 9800 Pro. But at least I've got the common sense of understanding that people with high end machines are just a very small percentage of all gamers. Try respecting that most people don't give shit about upgrading their pc every year or so.

And no, your penis doesn't get any bigger by telling here that YOU have a badadd PC.

Thats because that was the name of it. It was more or less just a demo of the engine's capablilities, but not of Half-Life 2.

Just got a question, they ARNT gonna put HDR in the game?

blurr filter on a texture? lol why... even with a rendered image, and you blurred it, the lines wouldnt be defined and you could EASILY tell that it was blurred.

im not talking about images being low res or high res, im talking about the texture alone being high or low res. like say a 256x256 res texture, then say a 1024x1024 res or even 512x512 res texture. you figure it out which one will look better :upstare:

I noticied it, and I agree fully with him. I'm looking forward to HL2 more than I ahve any game before, but I'm trying to keep low standards on it. If I expect less, and get more, the game will be so much more enjoyable. I learned otherwise the hard way.

Its the best way to go!

I've tried to avoid spoilers, I want this game to be as much of a surprise as possible

so you dont know that the last boss in hl2 is gman in a big robotic mech suit? ahh

lol, kinda funny, too bad the pic is of Gabe trying to sit in a stool.

Stretch a 512x512 texture over a 30 foot tall model and it's going to be a bit blurry, no way around it. My two cents. Goodnight.

yeah exactly, i dont understand why these kids are gettin so sensitive about my comments about the texture being low res and blurry. lol

nite. :dozey:

So you make it a 1024x1024 texture. Honestly, badboy is right. The texture on the strider is horribly low-res, and the model looks very very plain.

"But they're concentrating on the game, not the graphics!"

That's a pathetic comment. They could have some peon intern paint them a strider texture, scan it in at 2048x2048 and remap the model in under 24 hrs. HL2's big selling point is setting a standard in terms of gaming visuals. UT2k4 uses 1024x1024 detail textures all over the freaking place. The least valve could do is add some detail textures or a normal map of a high-poly version (if there is a high poly version). That model has NO detail textures or decent normal mapping. Concentration on gameplay is good - but there's no excuse for a model mapped like that.

They blurred the texture

No, that's the renderer interpolating between texels to smooth out pixels. Similar thing happens when you play HL1 in software vs. opengl (for those of you who don't render stuff often). The texture is not blurred in the sense that detail is lost. The difference is obvious to those who are familiar with texturemapping, AA and rendering.

It will be better when the game comes out.

It could. It certainly could. As I said above, it would take very little for them to add detail textures and normal mapping (as well as specular maps etc etc) to the model. If they really dragged along, they could do it within a week or two. Here's the question though: Will they do it? I doubt it. I would not be surprised if that's the exact strider you'll be firing rockets at this christmas.

Don't be in denial folks. The render is less than stellar, BadBoy is right.

I don't see what the issue is here. No-one's going to get a nice view of the strider as it stands stock-still right in front of them. It'll move, you'll move. It'll most likely be somewhat far away. I find the texture is exactly good enough for that situation.

No-one complained in the last year about the striders.

Whoa 6 pages ..... ok.

I don't think the strider will not look like that. I reckon it's all part of the crap screen shot scandel of them releasing poor quality images so people are 'blown away' when they see the real final product. ;)

(case in point the canal screen shots)

This to me actually looks like an early concept model that they just thought they might release. Heck, just check out the vids if you want proof.

I damn well agree, even I have a 9800pro, this was my other post to that poz guy who was showing off his X800.

I hate it when games have nice-looking eyecandy technology cut out of them to make room for the 80% of idiots with their 600mhz celerons and TNTs.

Games should be built from the ground up with the latest technology to run perfectly on the latest hardware.

and my reply...
