Does anyone else think that hunters where sort of "easy" to fight? I mean, they absorb quite a bit of firepower, but really, I think I only died to them twice -- once when I was low on HP at the inn from the Combine overwatch, and the other time when I was dumb enough to try to crowbar one.

Originally when I first saw them in the previews I was like "omfg mini-strider!", but they really don't do that much damage.

Then again I started on "Normal" IIRC.

I wish they were not so vulnerable to physics damage makes it easy to kill them they die before the fun starts.

Eh I had issues hitting them with anything because they would move while the ojects where in mid air.

So play on Hard if challenge is a problem...?

If you are taking them down with anything apart from physics objects on Hard, then you'll go through about half your arsenal in a multiple Hunter encounter - they can take 3 direct double shotty blasts, or survive a direct hit from a rocket or SMG alt-fire.

If you can't hit them with physprops, as you say, then I suspect they'll be kicking your arse on hard. They are smart too - get too close with a gravgun object and they will run forward and boot you in the face. I found them very entertaining to fight.

I found them a challenge, especially on hard. Although I think they were a bit too vulnerable to physics props, they can definitely tear you up with secondary damage with the darts exploding. They also had a habit of dodging out of the way of your car during the final battle.

If you listen to the people talking just as you enter white forest base, one of them says "You know what the alt-fire on the AR2 does? Kills hunters."

You can one-shot them with the alt-fire of the combine pulse rifle. (tip for hard mode)

Yeah I know. I think I've come across four of those max, though.

Where is this so called Very hard Difficulty?!

Good point, what happened to it?

Maybe it followed Barney to the abyss of missing things...

As for the Hunter,s if you want a challenge, use guns.

Granted, the rocket launcher almost kills them, so a single clip of the SMG or maybe even pistol will finished them off.

Hunters on hard gave me a lot of trouble. They seem faster and they actually dodge around. Plus they take a long time to go down even with the shottie.

I'm not the biggest fan of Hunters but some of their behaviour seemed impressive.

I did like how they attacked the Magnade when I tried to use it.

Oddly, if they shoot it off the back of a Strider, it fails to explode.

I really enjoyed fighting them. Took me two or three deaths to realize that I'd never take down the Strider while its escort was alive, and since it pretty much ignored me, I could focus on the hunters themselves. What I thought most impressive was their dodging - hiding behind trees, sidestepping orbs, that kind of thing. It's also cool that their health is just enough that even the RPG won't one-hit-kill them - you have to land that shot and then finish 'em off with some SMG or whatever.

I played ep2 on hard and, those Hunter mofos do not die by the gun bullets easily. It took me at least three clips to get one hunter killed on hard level.
I did find their weakness in the final battle; that those hunters are weak for thrown objects and flaming barrels.
If you can get a nade under them would be sweet and if you got rocket launcher even better. But they freaking smart and sidestep pretty quickly.
lol.

the Hunter is now my favorite enemy even if they are a bit easy to kill at times.

one of hte achievements says to throw something back at them to kill them. is it those little bolt like arrows? if so, how do you shoot those back.

Yes. Get them stuck in a log and time their detonation and your throw.

If you hold an object with the grav gun, and the hunter shoots you, the fletches will stick on the object you are holding ... then just fire the object at the hunter and whamo!

I would have much preferred hunters if they had a ridiculous close range attach and no long range attack, and they were almost invulnerable to weapon attacks. It would be much more exciting to be chased by them and have to find objects to try and knock their legs out from under them. This is how they seemed in the trailer.

Imagine in the attack on the inn while you're sniping out one of the windows at combine soldiers the hunters sneak into the house and there's no point standing still trying to shoot at them, you have to run down into the basement and get something worth throwing at them like the radiator. And the larger the object the more it slows them down.

They're really fun to fight, but I did get the impression that they'd be a bit more brutal and melee based from the trailers.

Agreed. Maybe that's why I didn't like them much? In the demo of the game where he fights the Hunter, it takes quite the pounding -- in game a few objects finish it fast.

I've enjoyed their role in the game, and they've kicked my a** on a few occasions. I think they are a cool addition.

I would think the force of the "dart" would knock it off, but due to the time-delay of them, not explode on the strider

Hunters are great fun to fight against, but although I played on hard they are far too vulnerable to physics damage. The main problem is allowing anything to absorb their attack and then throwing it back. You can master them easily.

Agreed, the one thing you need to look out for when you're using physprops on them is that they don't run forward and kick you while you're holding it. What would be interesting is if their AI was changed to switch to melee more readily if they see the player holding a physprop. More health vs. physprops wouldn't hurt either.

They always seemed to run at me if I was holding something, when there's a big ass log blocking your view that's bad. I'm sure my memory is just over-emphasising it though due to it's adrenaline-enticing association.

They definitely do it quite often, but it's only if you're within a certain distance. It might make them feel more dangerous if that distance was extended.

Most satisfying way to kill Hunters; run'em over with the car! In the Magnussen/Strider battle, I killed almost all of them that way. . .a one-shot kill, so to speak. :) Took a lot out with the crossbow too. . .really did not like getting close to them.

Overall, I found their AI to be pretty good, but not great. Loved how they would side-step, and their flechettes were awesome; but I do wish they would rush more often.

I thought all the new enemies added were great additions, really. Variety is the spice of life!

The shotgun was made weaker on the hunter on purpose.

It does like x 0.2 pellet damage on them, otherwise it would have only needed a single point-blank double-blast to take one down..

Also, they can be intentionally set to use melee only, but valve didn't use that feature in the maps :(

I hope we get to fight some with only a pistol or crowbar in the next Minerva episode, that'd be challenging. *hint hint, Adam* ;)

I played on hard and found them very difficult to beat. Just one presented a big challenge. And it was just plain impossible if I didn't have some sort of explosive weapon or something heavy enough to throw at them. Even with a big ass tree trunk it took at least 2-3 throws to kill one.

they are a little difficult to deal with but very easy to kill with 3-4 shots from magnum, and they are like mini striders

The hunters are easy in your first battle with them. But scrambling for logs during the final battle against 3 hunters can be pretty difficult especially when they deflect and bounce 50 yards away.
I do hate however when people say "just use your guns on them to make fighting them harder." Excuse me but I'm not going to invent difficulty by working around game design.

They were ok, but not as hugely exciting as I'd hoped. I think the biggest problem is the fact that Gordon has a car. Very easy to hit and run them all down in that final Battle. Also, though it's clearly a sensible dynamic, having the hunters protect the strider naturally makes the player take them out first. I think it would be interesting to have it so that the main target is NOT the Hunter, so you're trying to avoid them whilst picking off the more important target.

They could also do with being tougher, but couldn't everything in Half-Life 2+?

How long do the hunters take to kill on hard? on easy/normal they seem to go down after about a minute or two of fighting.

The thing about hunters is they're frightening, they pop out of nowhere and scare you, and they're intimidating, I reckon they could have done with a bit more firepower and hp though.

Yeh, the videos made them seem hard to fight, but they are still a great enemy with a quite amazing AI, the way they can follow you into buildings and fire props at you, great...

I think the reason why we are dissapointed with hunters is not that they are weak, or vulnerable to physics. It is our skill. It's not a big deal to own them when you are veteran HL,TF2 or CS player. And comeon guys. There must be a way to defeat every enemy:cheese:

I find them easy to take down, but thats because I am capable of taking them down with their own flechettes every time.
